Looking back at the start of the game when Desmond sees an older Ezio its brought a few questions in my mind.

    1) What was Ezio doing back there?

Ezio didn't seem that older when he hid the apple, so if he was going to leave a clue he would have done it when it was fresh in his mind.

    2) Why leave the clue in the sanctuary?

The Villa was nearly destroyed and the Assassins are now located in Roma. So why did he put the clue there?

    3) Why could Desmond even see an Old Ezio at all?

With AC2 we saw that the memories of an ancestor stop when they conceive a kid, but Ezio is old, which means by that time he hasn't even conceived a son that continues onto Desmond.

Im starting to wonder if Ezio didn't take a little sneak at the future to find out who the hell Desmond was, realized its his descendant and held off having kids until he had everything done which Desmond might need to see. Thats why the clue is in the sanctuary - because Desmond goes there, and why Ezio goes there when he is older, so Desmond knows he went back there more than once.

    Thoughts?

Well, we have no idea what he saw when he took a look at the Apple with Leonardo, causing time to freeze for a second. We know that somehow that lead him to Cesare, and that is where he killed him. Perhaps he saw into the future, getting a little taste of the 6th sense Juno was referring to, "Knowledge." Just like how Minerva used that 6th sense to speak to Desmond through Ezio at the end of AC2, Ezio used the 6th sense to see that Desmond would be looking into Ezio's life, maybe?

Thats what im guessing. Im surprised tho that if he did look into the future why he might not have saw what happened directly after - Desmond getting controlled by the PoE and stabbing Lucy. If any of desmonds ancestors could get a glimpse of what Desmond is trying to achieve there could be mention in the game.

Also, didn't Ezio actually state at the beginning that in the future there was an event going to happen that would require assassins to find some temples to save the earth and that the assassins would try to help now by finding them for the future assassins?
