I'm new to the series and just picked up ACR. Well, I played a little bit of the first Assassin's Creed, but I never finished it. If anyone is kind enough to tell me...can someone please explain the story behind all the other Assassin's Creed's. I feel left out while playing ACR and would like to know everything that went on before in the previous games. I particularly would like to know who this 16 character is and the story behind Desmond and Lucy.

You could try youtube and watch some videos of AC2 if you don't want to play it.

I would suggest you play AC2 as it does a great job of telling the whole story.

At least play Brotherhood, but it would be ideal to play all three before ACR.

Time to consult with the AC Wiki.

    ACWiki

Basically just click on what you need to know, there is enough information here to catch you up on the series and more.
