If you want easy engine management and you're in your own server or offline in your own game set the difficulty level setting on Complex Engine Management to OFF.

Russian aircraft historically had few if any automatic engine management systems. By comparison the FW190, Bf 109, and most other western aircraft were somewhat or totally automatic by default (I think all had overrides but only the Bf 109 seems to represent that at all ie. the prop pitch thing).

German A/C have automated systems. In order to manually change the prop pitch on these aircraft you need to first disable the automatic prop pitch. (Look for the appropriate key in the controls menu.)
AFAIK, you cannot manually change the mixture on German A/C.

Also worth noting is that when you're changing prop pitch on most allied aircraft, what you're actually doing is setting the desired RPM. The engine will then attempt to maintain the desired RPM automatically. In German A/C, when you're manually changing prop pitch - you are actually changing the prop pitch. So be careful, it's very easy to fry the engine in the 109, for example, with manual prop pitch.

THX AirBot http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif . It seems very stupid that you first have to enable prop.pitch on german A/C in order to use it. Mixture seems to be working only on He111. That's weird that ALL allied planes have prop.pitch and mix. enabled, but axis... weird http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif
THX for the Bf109 pr.pitch tip, you have only few seconds on 100% before engine fails http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.
cheers

Its not really that stupid...you'll notice that if you toggle the control again it'll go back to Automated. Its the best of both words really.

O.K. but I think it's still strange. I don't know if that's the case with all that planes in real world but doubt it. You cannot manually change the mixture on german fighters?? On every allied fighter no matter year, you can change it. Strange, but THX for your opinions http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
