Hey, I have done a bit of modeling and texturing and I want to do some add on planes for IL-2. I have worked at a game company here in phoenix for the last 5 years. I am going back to school this fall and want to keep my hand in it. I think I will be able do one flyable fighter, or maybe 2 AI bombers.

Here are some ideas, I don't know if any off these have been started by someone else, and with IL-2 Center down it is hard to check. I know most of the best planes have been reserved or are in the game already. But I am trying to think of what could go into next year's add-on.

So here are some ideas, let me know what you think.

.............

American:
F-4 Corsair
F-6F Hellcat
F4F-4 Wildcat
A-24 Dauntless
P-61a Black widow (one of my favorites)

<possible AI planes>
A-26
B-24J Liberator
B-29
B-36 (1946war)

............

British:
Spitfire (Would love to do this but I am pretty sure someone else is)

Hawker Typhoon (same)

DeHavilland Mosquito (my favorite, I remember someone started it but I don't think they got very far)

Hawker Sea Fury (1946war)

.........

German:
Dornier 335 Pfeil (1946war)

Sorry Hal

Personaly I am going to stay away from the more obscure German, Italian, and Russian planes, Because, sadly, in the United States it is hard to get good source material on anything that isn't U.S., British, or the most common German planes.

Maybe there is a aspiring modeler on the other side of the Atlantic who would like to take up the challenge.

Well it'd have too be the P-61,I was going to start this one myself, but you have 5 years experience, if you need it I have great resources for 3 views and have made the templates for max, we need more night fighter axon in FB for all sides, how about the Fw-154,

XyZspineZyX

Nobody is doing the Typhoon, that would be my first choice. Someone is doing the Tempest (Alex Voicu and Hammerd), maybe they could help you out. Mosquito would be cool too, I don't think anyone is doing that either. Or you could do a version of the Spitfire, so far the Mk.I, Mk.IX, Mk.IVX, and F.22 are being worked on. Not sure about the Mk.V. Mk.XII would be cool since this is a low-altitude sim and it would give a Spitfire for every year if Mk.V is being worked on.

I would love to do a Corsair, they had one at the Champlan Fighter Museum here in Mesa, Arizona that I have some nice shots off. They wouldn't let me climb into the cockpit though.

And I had forgotten all about the P-61 until I saw a picture of one the other day. A very cool plane.

Since you willingly asked for opinions, I'll give you mine. I would like to see one flyable plane over half a dozen AI bombers any day of the week. On the other hand, I really would like to see a B-36 in FB (sans the jets, is that the B-36A?), and if you are willing and interested, I feel like you're my only hope to see it! There will be naysayers for that one, though...

I'm a big fan of the F4U (not to mention the F2G-2), but it looked like someone had been making good progress on it before IL-2 Center was abandoned. Does anyone know the status of that project?

I'd love to try the Do-335, but it also had some work done. I wonder what the status of that one is?

A flyable P-61 would be my pick of those planes listed. The game doesn't currently have anything quite like it. Would the game itself need to be "updated" to provide an authentic night fighter experience? Its something I would like to try. In the end, if the Mosquito and Black Widow are your favourites, go with one of those, and go for flyable!

XyZspineZyX

My suggestions (from your selection) are:

-Black Widdow (possibly NF?)
-de Havilland Mosquito

These would be absolutely great for the game!

When I was ten I put together a Monogram 1/72 model of the B-36 Peacemaker. I hung above my bed on some fishing line for about 6 years. That one is a favorite. I know that I want to do that one. If only for myself.

I realy have fun flying the He111. I would realy like to see more multi-engine planes. With Gibbage doing the P-38 and a map of France in the works... I think the Mosquito and Black Widow fit right in.

Maybe I should just quit my job, not go to school, and send the wife to go live with her parents, then I could do it all /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I just looked up the Stuka D-5. That would be great for the game!!! But I think Oleg could pull one out of his hat alot faster then I could build another one from scratch. We will have to get after him.

When Il-2 Center does come back up, I hope that they will update what progress is being done on what planes. If no one has touched a plane for 9 months, then open it up to all takers.

Kind of like Gibbage did with the P-38.

.... ah, good old Gibbage

I admire your gumption. Since your in the industry, I know this is not an empty promis as with many new modelers. You KNOW what is involved. If I may, may I suggest,

The Do-335. I myself hate it. ITS UGLY AS SIN!!!! BUT! My good friend Snorri has had his hopes dashed many times. He has been buggen the he11 out of me to model it. If you take it, then I wont have to deal with it!!!! Also, it would be great to have a Luft46 prop for the Go-229 and P-80 add-on.

Also, I love you. P-61 is my 2nd favorite aircraft, P-38 is my #1. FW-190 is my #3. I think a Spit is number 4. Anyways, I like your choices, but I think the Do-335 would be the best. Also, if you want any help, E-mail me. I have a few artists on my ICQ list and I give them a lot of help.

As for a bomber, I think everything is taken but the Mossy. Do the Mossy. You would have a REALLY big fan club in no-time.

Please E-mail me at gibbage@gibbageart.com and we can exchange a few idea's.

Go with the Corsair as the Flyable, and the Dauntless as the non flyable AI.

Incidently Oleg is now accepting 3rd party maps, know anybody that wants to Map the New Guinea Area?
The Battle of the Coral Sea (first Aircraft carrier engagement in the Pacific) was right next door to stop the Japanese invasion by sea of Port Moresby.

Were did you get this? From what I remember, there was no way what so ever for 3rd party maps. Simply just to much work and too technical. Thats Olegs words. Also, a carrier needs a LOT more then putting it in the map. It would need programming and changing core aspects of the game. Simply because the game was NEVER programmed to allow you to land on an object. You would need to re-write the collision code to include being able to land on a carrier. Also, the carrier itself is a LOT of work. These things were simply HUGE and had a lot of details.

Heard it on a very long grape vine,
When you look at it are you assuming there is lack of technical expetise out there to do this in the United States ?
Also the Maps in IL-2 are in FB and Oleg is said to be working on a new Program game engine.
Put 2+2 together and ask yourself this would Oleg close off the potential of the Pacific for the future>.

I dont think so in the long run Gib.

Please do Mosquito, P-61, anything but the Do-335. Please do something that participated in WWII, not a "what if" plane. I am not trying to start anything by any means, just voicing my opinion/wish. I think the Mosquito would be an awesome addition. I can't believe nobody has done this yet, the Germans hated this plane. It was very capable and had huge firepower and could be used in alot of roles in FB.

Spitfires-mk1 to 9 in particular.

Typhoon(arguably the most important Western dedicated mudmover of the war).

Mosquito-possibly the best all rounder of the war.

Ta152-the best Lw fighter(?)

B24 Liberator

B26 Marauder

A26 Invader

Avro Lancaster-The best "heavy" of the war.

And because I'm interested in the Korean war:

F86 Sabre

Mig 15

...mind you I get to choose what ever I want...

P-61A (because I already started one a few months ago)

followed by

Mosquito (because I like to vultch....muahahahahhaha)

then the...

AI B-29 (Tu-4)
AI B-36 (Because If I don't do it no one else will)

lastly

Corsair and the Dornier 335. These two would get moved up if a Pacific or 1946 add-on are announced.

How about the Wellington (most produced WW2 British
bomber) the Lancaster, and Halifax (plenty of versions
of the latter), the Stirling (most maneouverable 4
engined heavy) and the Sunderland, the Beaufighter
(night fighter and attack, also used by the USAAF).

Also Tempest V (being done) and Tempest II.

Also Fairey Swordfish (did some very important
missions in WW2), Fulmar, Firefly, Barracuda.

For 'Luft 46' type wars the Vampire would be a good
inclusion, or things like the Wyvern and MB5 if you
are being more fanciful, and the Meteor as well (outclassed
as a fighter, but made a good nightfighter, and a
very good photo recon plane as the PR12 in the 1960s).
And how about the Miles M.52 to give the British a
supersonic plane for the hell of it?

- German:
- Dornier 335 Pfeil (1946war)

Hs 126, He 219, Me 410, Do 17, 217, Ju86P, Ju90,
He177, Ar234, would also be good to model, and
P.1101 and Ta 183 and 152 for Luft 46.

For the USA the A1 Skyraider might be a fun inclusion
for the 1946 war concept, along with the A26. Two
good ground attack planes.

Spit Mk V would be the best thing anyone could model, I can't believe they are skipping over this one in favor of the late models which lost all their character/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Well that is my rant of the night, and my vote, but the P61 does sound really cool. That is one crazy looking bird, its hard to believe it ever flew.

Agreed, but someone else is supposed to be modeling it, but no one was doing the P-61.

Gibbage said that he would post the picture for me. If anyone else is willing I will email it to you.

That's ok, I've found all kind of picture of the cockpits and what not. I even ordered a walk around book from Amazon. What I was hoping for was just a place to post "my" renders.

I do appreciate the offer for help.

Something that I could use is some into on the gunners sights, It was the same as remote guns used on the B-29. If anyone has links about that I would appreciate it.

Also, I saw on "zenos warbird video",the P-61 was the only plane to "spoiler" ailerons. If anyone know anything about this that would be very helpful.
