Fellow flight sim junkies. This is going to be a bit like slapping a band aid on a spurting jugular wound but..... My love of this game, coupled with my anticipation of the official opening of the PTO, led me to do this.

This is my first attempt at a mission in the FMB so please be gentle. It can be played as a single or a net co-op. A buddy and I have had great good fun playing this night after night in anticipation of the release of PF. (It's also good for practicing your section tactics!) Also I should note that it's just as much fun to take the Japanese side. If you are at all familiar with the FMB it is a trivial thing to switch around the playable/not playable planes in a mission.

Here is the scenario. It's a dawn raid on Rabaul by a joint Army air corp bomber group with long range escorts and a section of navy fighters for cap. The flight is made up of 8 B-17's for heavy bombardment, 2 B-25's for AAA suppresion, and two squads of P-51B's for escort duties. You are in a Navy tricolor Jug (closest I could get to a Hellcat).

You have left your carrier early at 0-Dark thirty in the morning in order to rendezvous with your Army Air Corp counterparts and hit the Japanese base at dawn and catch them sleeping! However, as is normal with interservice co-operation the rendezvous time/place was fubar'ed. As a result you won't get to the base until long after dawns crack http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

The Japanese are not caught sleeping. The giant base at Rabaul is a hornets nest of activity and the fight is on! Once the bombers have droped their bombs you are free to engage at will. There are plenty of targets on and around the airfield if you feel like ground pounding a bit, or go after the rest of the bogeys!

If you wan't some further amusement then record a track of this mission and then watch from the static camera I've got at the airfield. It's a pretty awesome sight watching the B-17's drop their load on the runway and infrastructure (if they make it!)

Many great thanks to the thoughtfull big brains in the mission builders forum like Plumps, Extreme_One, etc. You guys have taken a great game and extended its life and attraction for me and countless others I'm sure. Also thanks to Pops312 who skinned the navy colors onto the Jug.

Hope you all have some fun, and that it helps the hours go by faster until PF is here!

Also forgot to mention in original post....

If you are a good pilot and think you are all that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif then bump up the AI a notch or two for the KI's on CAP.
