Anyone know how effective a pilot would have been say after he had been on leave or returned from a injury? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif Did the saying that is heard now "Once Bitten twice shy" play into their mind sinc???

"My God look how the men fall!"
From confederate general overlooking the Stone Wall at Maryes Heights. Battle of Fredericksburg 1863

Fascinating topic. Thanks!

- Grislawski knew that the first period at the frontline
- after a home leave was hazardous--that he had become
- slightly "rusty"-- and he decided not to take any risks.
- He was very cautious during his first combat sorties
- after his return from his home leave.
