I know this might attract some flame etc. but....
A few nights ago online I made a deflection shot from my Buffalo and blew the wing off a Pe-8.
Would this be possible in real life?!?!???

I have done the exact same thing in an offline campaign. It was the first mission in my Brewster, to intercept two incoming PE-8s heading to our field. I used shallow diving tactics on them and killed both of them. My AI wingie used the poor tactics of simply following their tails and got blown up right away.
The PE-8 has a weak spot in the wing just on the outside of the outer engines ( engines 1 and 4 ) and can be exploited with any cannon or heavy MG. But with MGs you have to sustain hitting it there for a few seconds. I have a track of this because I was surprised about the outcome.

Reminds me of my first mission playing as a Fin.

I had chosen the Hurrican Mk1, to my amazement the of us had to deal with 3 Pe-8 bearing down on our airfield. We took off and my 3 mates all ganged up on one of the bombers.

One after another they lined up behind it ant took shots at the guns, before long all of that bombers engines were smoking, but we was also down to just two fighters. I tried to get a deflection shot at the **** pit of the bomber and then climbed away.

I then dropped down on one of the two other bombers and once again tried to rake the cockpit with my gunfire. In the prosses I got shot up pretty good. I was heavily wounded, my planes was smoking and wasn't going to keep me into the air much longer.

I belly landed her in a field and ran away from the buring wreck.

when I ended the mission, I learned that my three squad mates where all KIA. And I was given credit for shooting down two Pe-8s. I guess I did get a pilot kill on the second one, and the first must not of made it back to base with its shot up engines.

I was in the hospital for a entire year. I was awarded some metals and started my second mission in a Brewster the following spring...

That was when I decided the decided the dynamic campains weren't to bad after all.

........

I then went on to single handedly killed 78 Tiger Tanks with my Brewster's .50's /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Of course the .50 can do this. It can blow holes in a tiger tank, so Pe8s would be easy/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

When Erwin Rommel that British fighter-bombers had shot up my tanks with 40mm shells, the Hermann G├┬Âring who felt himself touched by this, said: "That's completely impossible. The Americans only know how to make razor blades." and the above was Rommels reply.

Did you know, that properly deflected from the ground .50 cal rounds of P-47 could also kill submerged submarine? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I have done this as well with the B-239 vs Pe-8 mission. It's weird and probebly isn't realistic. But atleast it makes winning the mission possible.

As we all know, the Soviet Union had too many fighter pilots during WW2. So Stalin's scientists came up with a brillient way to solve this problem. They would make some of their pilots fly British made Hurricanes. The Hurricane was an uber flying coffin. It was designed to maximize pilot kills by providing nothing but fabric and a few wooden spars around the cockpit. This setup prevented the pilot from escaping easily while at the same time not interfering with enemy bullets and shrapnel trying to pass through it. The rest of the Hurricanes structure was designed to ricochet bullets and shrapnel into the cockpit. And thanks to the cockpits superb design, all of them would pass through the cockpit and the pilot inside with little difficulty. Of course the Hurricane's designers didn't stop there. In order for the Hurricane to become a flying coffin, they had to make it easy to shoot. They did this by making the Hurricane the slowest monoplane fighter in use at the time and even gave it a very bulky shape so that it would be easy to spot and hit. The final feature of the Hurricane was its ability to bury or cremate itself. And because it was made of biodegradable materials, the Hurricane was environmentally friendly after it buried itself. Because of these brillient features, the Hurricane was a perfect flying coffin and helped the Soviets solve the pilot surplus they were suffering.
