I picked the P-47 as my a/c of choice a long time ago. As a child hangin with my Grandpa and hearing the stories and feeling and touching the Planes(Mainly US stuff). I always liked the P-47 the best. Does it fit my personality I can't tell. But I have been described as big, bold and aggressive. (I'm 6'2" and 210 lbs and a former Marine) So I can't say whether my personality picked the plane or that I always liked the "underdog" between the Mustang and Thunderbolt fan club.

Interesting question!

I chose 'unconcious link', because i kinda agree with the question... but I also think theres just as much of a link between HOW you fly too.

I mostly fly the 109, but for instance, if its available (and choronicaly slow climb rate will allow me to gain enough altitude before being shot down http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif) Ill BnZ in a mkIIc hurri http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. In both situations I excercise patience and restraint, and hope that Ill be skilled enough to make the shot when the small window of opertunity arrises, as as opposed to going in guns blazing.

There probably is a connection for many of us. You are what you fly. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Then again many of us are http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif (not just Ivan).

With all due respect, you probably spend too much time on these forums. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I tend to fly Allied aircraft, especially the IL-2, and I would say that an untrained baboon probably flies with more finesse and skill than I do http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

A more random poll would be whether there is a link between the type of aircraft flown and the personality of that person? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I wonder what type of person on these boards flies mud moving missions in a Sturmovik? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

So that is what I fly.

I'm a hurricane pilot when I play FB (I so need to get it working)

I like to think of myself as similar to the Hurricane. Steady, Powerful, agile, good looking.....

But then again, I am proved right by the fact that I konk out when things get negative!

I'm a fighter bomber/ bomber kind of guy. I'm best off in either a P-38, P-40, or B-25 basically. Hell, right now I'm good with the 111 and I'm sure I'll be awesome with the B-25 and 38. For now, though, I just load my P-40 with a bomb, drop it and strafe away!

Hm. At first I wasn't sure, but then read your reasoning, now I am sure... I am what I fly.

I pretty much only fly the FW190 A5... I have a good sense of humor, but am intolerant of stupidity and lack of skills. I tell it like it is, and don't have time for those that don't.. A good Deutsch fit I suppose. Since I'm too trusting, maybe thats why I also kind of like the P47 (bubble top, not razorback)

I mainly fly LW planes, probably because my ethnic background is German. I also enjoy flying allied planes though , but one thing is for sure, and that is that I like to fly for the underdogs. I guess I prefer the challenges of being outnumbered or flying the less capable aircraft.

Offwine missions:: That's why I find early WAR VVS most fun (assuming most of VVS lay bombed on the ground). Late WAR the LW is more interesting. Oleg says he will make Polish addon for BoB, flying the Polish Air Force would be Aussum.

I think they represent more of our moods. When I feel like being serious and using my skills I fly Luftwaffe. When I just want to relax and take it easy, all laid back and what not, I fly Russian. When I feel like doing a little of both I fly American or British.

I must be schizoid then... I like the Mustang, the P-40, the P-47, the P-39, the Las, The FWs and the Yaks...... the P-40 is fast becoming my favorite plane in FB though...which surprises me becausae I am a Mustang man at heart.

The plane you pick reflects your style of fighting which in turn reflects some of your character.
For instance, I fly the 109G6 because I prefer short and violent encounters to long drawn out turn-struggles (though I do enjoy the latter on occasion). I don't know how much that says about my character, but I guess I'm a to-the-point kind of guy, so in that respect it kind of makes sense.

Or I just like the cockpit http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i like the late planes as much as the early

i shoot other people down equally well in either a Dora or a LaGG

whats your point ?

I fly for the underdog. Old Il2 it was the germans. Now in the early years it's actually equal or the germans have the advantage. Still gonna fly for em though, I feel more accomplished. Once you can fly the german crates, you can fly any of the russian ultra-lights.

As Agamemnon22 said, the plane you fly probably suits your fighting style, which in turn reflects some of your character.

I like to fly Fw 190 and always fly it whenever it is available. Many times if it is not available, I log off.

What I like about Fw 190 is a certain mixture of directness and cunning. Before the engagement you either hide or fake low E state, but work for best position for an attack. Most of the fight is actually in the preparation. Once ready, you strike quickly and effectively, without a need for another pass. As for fighting from disadvantage - well, I never like to fight a losing fight http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Am I that way in real life ? Not as much as I want to be for sure http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I think there's a link, though not a conscious one. It's like how people buy pets that look like them.

I primarily fly the I-16. In real life I'm 5'7", 135 lbs, and generally easygoing, bubbly, and friendly. Though if someone picks a fight with me, I'm a pitbull (in arguments, at least--don't get into many real fights). So I guess the plane does fit me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

When I'm in a really foul mood, I like flying the Yak-9K. Nuff said.

I have to say, I've wondered about this myself few times... let's see:
- I play football as free safety; not much lateral movement, more like waiting for a target to appear and then moving fast in a straight line trying to make the big hit
- I play IL-2 as a BnZ'er; not much lateral movement, more like waiting for a target to appear and then moving fast in a straight line trying to make the big hit

Hmm... I think you're onto something here... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

BTW, I wrote this on one of the "what plane do you fly" threads:

"Flying the Bf109 is like driving a big Beemer down the Autobahn: a ruthless wonder of technology and machine power moving steadily forward in an unstoppable and threatening manner.

Flying the Soviet planes is like driving a small French car casually in a parking lot: quick and nimble, does everything easily and looks nice - but not really meant for men."

I think this tells something about me and you probably can also guess which machine I'm normally flying http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

...wait a minute ...I drive a small French car http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

I am drawn to planes because of their personalities, not mine.

For me, this is the case with motorcycles, cars, snowmobiles, ATVs, pretty much anything with an engine. If you dislike the "sterile" feeling of many Honda motorcycles, you know what I'm speaking of.

Its harder to get a feel for the character of a plane through a computer, but there is enough in the modelling to suffice. In FB, I'm drawn to the planes that have a certain character to them. To me, the planes that are too damn good at everything are a turnoff.

Hmm

whatever i fly it has to have a powerful punch -my flying is sooo much better than my shooting so i don't worry too much about plane maneveurability as long as it has guns that will take a plane down in a couple of shots.
i suppose thats the opposite of me - i'm a spritely, agile, weakling. :|

so basically i think perhaps we choose partiucular planes to match with our strengths and weaknesses.

Looks like I`m spending too much time on the forums. Bye!

Seriously though we have 25 posts, which when I check are about 50/50 `an unconscous link` and `People`s Personalities are what they fly`, but more votes saying I`m too long on the forums (I knew that last one would be irrisitable to some :http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

Of course, I`m a VVS flyer, and honestly really like the I16, I guess it`s cos it`s the little `bullied` guy who dares to stand up and fight back, no matter how tough the opposition is, and I`m a natural turn fighter too. But I also very much like the Hurri (cos it`s British, I guess) and the P40 is always on the list.

Seems most are agreed that aircraft do in some slight way represent ourselves, in the way we fly or our general attitude. It makes sense.

Thanx for your comments...

I'll fly all the planes in the game, though I find myself flying Me-262 quite a lot. Fast and powerful is everything I am not, so perhaps the planes we choose are what we'd like to have or get http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif does it make any sense?

I have same view point like "Sunburst-97th"

Yes I like challenge and 109 is my favor of challenge

with Oleg'S FM in LW plane make 109 most challenge then 109 in EAW OR JANE WWii http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

109 plane is not good but tactic and skill of LW's pilot in history is the reason I fly 109

LW planes make the pilot work for a kill.I fly them cuz I never gained any super skills with`em.There`s so much to do with my Me109 to become a really dangerous opponent.

In the start of online playing I was making my choice as to which side to choose.

I flew all VVS planes on DF servers and had extreme success for a beginner. My kill ratio was 3kills to one death.

I guess my character did have some influence on what plane I fly.

But surely it was the Me109 - love at first site.

What`s more I`ve found a perfect squad to learn this plane and study LW tactics.

Ohh Yes, I think so. Personally, I like to stalk a target till I know I have the best chance and make a one-time run and see him explode or, at least breaking up in some major pieces.

This requires B&Z tactics with destructive and sturdy aircraft and a bit of sniper skill. Put me in a YAK and I certainly will overspeed it one or two times so, I am the one who breaks up.

Come screaming down, scare the hell out of an opponent, unleash all your weapons onto him and if you get a kill like that, it is most satisfying.

Of course, Icons, no-cockpit and outside view isn't going to help with this. I'm rather bad in furrballs. I dunno very well how to take the aircraft to its minimum turning circle and keeping a watch on the enemy when it is not directly in front of me. I hope I can buy a second-hand track-ir some day. But no-one seems to sell it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It doesn't really matter what aircraft I fly, as long as it meets my personal specifications.

Taking a long route to an enemy airfield with a fully laden Il-2, is always good for bad surprises for the enemy. I like that also.

Off-course, this is practically impossible with Icons/No-cockpit view/padlock
