Hi all,

Pardon my n00bness, I am new to the PC gaming world. I am looking at getting a PC to go along with my LG 3440x1440 monitor. Should i pick up a 980GTX from EVGA or would a 970GTX be sufficient.

Does Unity support this resolution? I have searched high and low and cannot find a list of supported resolutions.

Thank you!

With Ptach3 in there i can certainly say GTX 970 (I have EVGA GTX 970 SC)...cant give 50+FPS at 1440P..but surely at 1080P... Not sure about GTX 980.. I would wait for patch 4 ..

From what i seen unity does support 21:9 aspect ratio but unfortunately i dont think even 980 would run it well on that resolution

For that resolution u will need a SLI/CFX setup.2 GTX 970 or GTX 980 in SLI will be ok,but not 1 card.

it actually gives 53-55 on avg @ 2560 x 1440p without PCSS and FXAA especially with the newly released beta driver 347.09

However, if you want decent performance, you must SLI unless if you are ok with 30-35 FPS with high settings, so if it was me, i would wait just a little bit for Nvidia to release the 8GB Vram version of the 900 series since 4GB will not be enough for that resolution while maxing out graphics settings, then grab a couple of GTX 970 8GB, OC them to 1500/8GHz and things will be golden.

980 is for 560$
970 is for 330$

so 2x970 = 660$, which is only 100$ difference and you get a massive performance gain over one single GTX 980.

I don't think one card will do it. I get a lot of skipping going over 1440p

Thanks everyone! SLI is not an option, as I am looking at the Alienware 13 laptop with the graphics amplifier (which will be lower performance anyway) so maybe I'll just run it in the 16:9 mode of the monitor to reduce the resolution.

Defiantly works 21:9. I run it on my 2560*1080 monitor on a 7950 3gb and an i5. Runs on high, always above 30fps (apart from cut scenes) and looks amazing. I was one of the few people that was surprised how well it ran with the latest drivers.

Nice! So maybe with patch 4 it'll be even better? I have the game on PS4 and have not started yet, been too busy, but I might pick this up for free with the card just to compare gaming on the PS4 vs, the PC so I can make future decisions wiser.

I am an iOS developer so my production machines are Macs, however I want a PC that I can game on, and also game on the couch (where I watch TV with my wife) so this Alienware 13, while expensive, sounds like the solution for me. I can have good performance on a larger screen when I want it, or game on the internal screen at a lower res with good performance. If I decide to get a dedicated box, I can move the card into that or something.

Thanks for your input!

I too uses 21:9 monitor, but like the guy above, using amd. r9 280x with i7. was horrible at first. crossfired it with 7970 and the AA got messed up, so i could say currently Unity only works on single gpus. after omega update, baaammm 45 fps on 2560x1080. best thing ever happened. made me swallow back my words belittling ubi. honestly im pretty confused who's at fault for this "optimization".
