Im playing the I-153 Leningrad fighter campaign. After being injured and in hospital, I find myself flying the P-40E. Wow lousy roll rate! Anyway, how come no mixture control. Also, does the fuel gauge work? I saw that the field mod P-40e does have mixture control.

thanks

No fuel gauge in the P-40's in FB but in real life they had one. Not all planes in FB have mixture control.

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.</center>

I've come to love the P40...roll rate is decent. If you learn to lag pursuit your enemies and always attack with altitude advantage (or get advantage before attacking) then you are set.

The .50 cal machine guns take alot of getting used to as well. Once you get it, the P40's guns are deadly.

Lag pursuit is lagging behind your quarry. Putting the nose of your fighter behind the enemy.

The fule guage is on the floor, between the rudder pedals. It's hidden behind the instrument panel when you are in gunsight mode, though.

For some reason, the Allison engine doesn't have any mixture control. I guess it isn't needed for altitude work.

The Field Mod does have a mixture control, because it is using the M-105 engine instead of the Allison. The Russians were having problems keeping the Allison engines supplied with parts, so they yanked some local engines from the Yaks and LaGGs.

P-40s do have mixture control, among them Auto Lean Auto Rich and Full Rich. This seemed to be modeled in 1.0, but now in 1,11 it does not. Same with P-39s.

I usually fly all varients of the p40, im wondering why they took away the mix controll on the e and the m, and they dont trottle back well anymore but dont explode past 55o which seems like the only thing that has been fixed. the roll rate is off and anyone who knows the charts knows the p40 e and m have a much faster rollrate then a p39. Its sealevel 3000 alt and 6000 alt top speed is slower then it should be by significant ammount.

Other planes in fb need stick pressure in the ailerons and elevator and energy bleed like the p40s have and this sim would bring back the realism

The fastest I can go in the p40 at SL is 260mph and thats at full power and rad closed but it will overheat like this very fast with rad fully open and power at 110% it's usualy around 240mph.

And even in a dive it picks up speed very slowly then once it has lots of E you cant turn or roll so you are just a faster sitting duck /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I think the FM on the p40 needs alot of work,Oh and a working fuel guage would be nice when I play online wars as it is now I have no idea how long I can stay airborn.

Yeah, I saw the fuel guage on the floor. It don't work though. And yeah, my god the roll rate is horrible! I know the P-40 has mix control. You can see the red lever on the left side of the cockpit next to the throttle. On the field mod it even moves when you change mixture. I wish everything worked this well in this sim. I hope they fix the p-40 and all the instruments on all the planes.
