View Full Version : Troubling thoughts about AC Victory's story (and Unity's). Unity spoilers ahead

We all know that Ubisoft Quebec is leading development on the next AC. I'm assuming this means they'll be using their lead writer, Jill Murray. I don't know much of her work well, but I do know that she helped to write AC Liberations, which I believed to have a terrible plot, as do others on these forums.

In saying this however I hope that the writer can work on the story without any outside influence. With Unity's story, I believe Travis Stout wrote the dialogue and script, but Alex Amancio devised the actual plot (Family loss at start, love relationship, Germain+Elise dying). The problem here is that I actually thought the dialogue between each of the characters was excellent, snappy, funny, serious and sophisticated, but the actual plot and presentation left much to be desired.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I hope the writer isn't influenced or restricted by the desires of others around them. I think one of the reasons the AC2+AC4 story is seen favourably amongst most is because the writers were given free reign to put the story in whatever direction they wanted.

TLDR; Worried about Jill Murray writing the game (co-wrote Liberation), hope the writer isn't restricted by any major plot events assigned by someone else.

Perhaps it could be another new-blood. Who knows.

Eh, I thought Unity's dialogue was super forgettable too, not just the plot (except for a few funny lines here and there from Pierre). And dear God, the scripts for the Paris Stories were ****ing awful. "Hi, I'm Historical Character X, and here's a minute-long exposition dump I expect you to silently follow up on."

I'm hoping for either new blood, or Darby. I agree, Liberation's plot sucked.

It raises questions for the future of Travis Stout for AC. I wonder if he just came for Unity, or he entered the brand for the long-term.

I'm just hoping the plot for Victory isn't the same tired revenge story that we've gotten. Would like some variety.

I agree with you. However, I'm still hoping for Corey May to return. Look at this video from 3:05 onwards. He says that he'd really like an AC set in Victorian London and as we all know it's happening. I mean, sure, Corey works at Montreal but that didn't stop him writing the story for Batman Arkham Origins, a game published by an entirely different company.

Otherwise, Darby or new blood. I'd love to have Jeffrey Yohalem back as well but he seems to just write things related to the main games, not the story in the games itself (the lost archive and now dead kings).

Arkham Origins was made by WB Montreal.

I don't care much about the typical revenge story coming back. It's repetitive, but not as important to me ask making the game actually further the plot of the entire AC series as much as AC3 and ACR did. I'd also like a protagonist more like Connor and much less like Arno, I'd not mind seeing more sequences/ more missions per sequence (2 missions per sequence was not very fun at all), and I want modern day back (I've said this many times now, I know :p). I don't even know how they could call rifts and bridges modern day. AC Unity's in game story didn't help modern day at all, and he never even knew about the precursor race. Just anything far from Unity would be great though

Yolahem writing Dead Kings is good news for me, it shows they're not exactly eager to keep the same writers as Unity had

Yay... another one-dimensional antagonist that's gonna be constantly screaming for his henchmen.

It's a shame we have so many Paris stories but so few main missions. I too would like to see a new writer and DEFINITELY a new plot-maker. I'd like Corey and Darby to make the plot and the script

I would love to see more Darby. He really writes with the history in context and that's a big immersion factor, at least for me, in these games.

I felt like there was a major disconnect between the story and the history in this [Unity] game.
