Reading about all this FB new engine management, I suddenly began to doubt my knowledge of Il-2. Which a/c in the original had props that the player could control?

none - there was no prop control in Il2, just fb.

I was wondering the same thing. The controls In IL2 allow for prop pitch to be assigned to a slider or to a series of buttons. This would be odd if none of the AC had prop pitch.

must admit that I was posting from the hip.

Don't remember it in il2 and was very pleased when I could change pitch in FB.

There is prop-pitch control in Il-2! Apparently it goes from Prop Pitch 0 to Prop Pitch 9. I assigned shift` through shift9 for it. The I-16 and Il-2 have it, so I assume all planes do.

Now I have to figure out what effect it has. Prop pitch auto always seems to keep it at highest pitch settings...

I can't imagine flying without prop pitch control.

apologies for misinformation.

Plenty of good links that explain prop pitch very well -

try Tailspin's pages here

or maybe at SimHQ.com?

The original had prop pitch but it was a generic control that worked exactly the same for all aircraft (regardless of what they were equipped with in real life). If you're still flying the original, use Auto Pitch.
