View Full Version : Fire & Water

I was just playing a campaign mission and a Bf109 sat down on my six and started shooting me up. I was jinking down low trying to avoid him but he shot me up and my engine caught fire. I immediately idled throttle and lowered to a slight nose-down attitude for an emergency landing. My plane touched the ground, bounced up and came back down to skid a considerable distance, trailing flames behind, continuing to skid a bit on a river which was in it's path and finally coming to a stop in the shallow part of the river, engulfed in flames.

Which brings me to the point of this thread (apart from this nice warstory /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ):
Wouldn't it be cool if you could put out fires by landing your plane in the water? It might make for some interesting new possibilities, and at the least will give us some cool visuals /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
Plus, I don't think it would be that hard to implement.

So, anyone else interested?

I'm interested of course but I don't know if it'll ever be done.

hmm, then I'd much rather man a crashtender in first person on an airfield

I'm a crappy pilot, but one hell of a shot.

I would think bailing out or belly landing in a field and jumping out would be a better idea than trying to find a body of water to land your plane it, either way it's lost. The added danger of landing in water would make it an even worse choice, I would much rather run away from my wreckage thantry to swim away. My 2 cents.

yea ive often wished for that after crashing into the water with my engine on fire.

Of course you're 100% correct.

But it would still be a cool visual.

I won't debate that!

Plus, it could come in handy for these times when you're down low and near a body of water. Bailing out in the air wouldn't be an option, and it takes time so you could be dead by that time.
And like Dubbo2 said, think of the eye candy /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Mind you, given that start-up smoke slows down your frame-rates, I'd imagine the steam generated by the immersion of an aircraft dressed in flames would turn your crash-landing into a slide show.

I remember back in CFS2,there was an add-on that added sparks to your landing if you came in on a paved runway with your wheels up. And blue flames from the exhaust stacks, in the correct firing order, which looked good during the day and absolutely spectacular at night.

That kind of stuff I think we'd all like to see but .....
