i took up a 163 Komet in Qmb, climbed up to 22000m turned around ( i could have kept going but i was getting bored) and dived. in the dive i reached a bit over 19000kph! thats right not sh!tting u at all. and then i finally blew up.

I was going so fast that when i fired my cannon the dopler effect sound when u do a fly by stopped working, it was like the game engine couldnt make the sound go any higher so it set it back to normal... LOL i was like holy SH...

whats that like mach2?

1900km/h is about mach 1.75 at sea level, a bit more at higher altitude.

I presume you did mean 1,900, not 19,000 like you typed.... ???

oops ment 1900, but that doesnt matter cause i just re tested and i reached 32000m and dived to a speed of 2200kph!!!!!

now that has to be mach2!!!

32,000m is about 100,000 feet. Air denisty is maybe about ~0.2%, or 1/500 surface density (about the surface of Mars). You are basically in space. I don't know the speed of sound up there, but speed of sound in air becomes abstract with no air. I got Me~163 up to 50km before running out (~8.5 minutes @ max throttle about the same as BI~1 which should be only ~80 seconds http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ). I thought Me~163 had only about 4 minutes of rocket. Funny, at 50km the FB Earth below is not a Pancake anymore but a little bite size cookie. And the landscape grafix is replaced by the smooth underwater bleh grey~green.

Next:: Me~163 altitude with unlimited fuel.

Took it up to 40,000 meters, where it went into a flat spin.

Dove straight down, power off. Hit about 2900 on the gauges and @15000 meters when it went boom.

With landing flaps, and careful use of trim, you can get just over 60k where the engine mysteriously becomes inoperable, leaving you to float back through the stratosphere.

I was able to go just over 3200kph before i went kabloowi.... lol.

In real life the 163 ran level trying to break mach 1 and just over 100kph, IIRC, it nosed over hard and broke up. That was the first I know of of what became of attempts for years at breaking the wall. It was years since I saw the documentary. They showed film. Was that pilot Heinie Ditmar or another?

At very high speeds the pitot systems in those planes became inaccurate wildly. Maybe far off readings is just another realism in this sim with so many?

yes the Pilot Was Heini Ditmar- He launched from being towed Behind a BF-110 at 40,000 Feet - I think he only had 1/2 Full Tanks.

He accelerated to 1003.6KM/H as measured by a Battery of telemetry Gear over the Airfield.

At critical Mach the ME163 Should become VERY Unstable and there Should only be enough Fuel for roughly 4 Minutes under Full Power.

Also the Ground Run on the Skid should be rather Long Considering the Ship weighs some 3.5 Tons landing at 200KM/H But in FB she seems to come to a Hault rather Quickly - Which accentuates the ME163's trait of trying to nose-over on landing.
The Germans did Weld Conrete Reo onto the Bottom of the Skid to shorten the Landing somewhat as the Production Model was Supposed to have a Brake Chute installed but due to Weight and C of G Issues that was abandoned.

On a related note... Is there a "sonic boom" in the game? (got FB, no aces yet... in the uk http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif)I know that in real life none of these aircraft (BI-1 or the 163) actually broke the sound barrier, but since it would appear that it is entirley possible to exceed Mach-1 as this post testifies (and I have tested the BI-1 myself) I was wondering....

cheers

The aerodynamic effects of supersonic flight probably arent modeled. You can go faster than the speed of sound in FB, but you probably havnt 'broken the sound barrier', cos there isnt one. Not in the virtual sense that is.
