Hey am I able to use my mouse to control the aircraft rather than a joystick?

How would I accomplish that?
Also, I want to use the mousewheel to control airspeed. Is that possible?

Thanks.

I only think it's possible to use the keyboard and not the mouse to control your movement.

But please tell us why oh why you would ever want to control a flight simulation with the mouse wheel?

Do yourself a favor and go pick up at least a cheapo joystick. You will thank me later.

I just started playing IL2 this afternoon.

Are you sure I can't use the mouse to control movement? If that's so, I'll just mosey on over and uninstall the game right now.

I was looking for a simple dogfighting game. IL-2 is a nice blend between sophistication and pick-up-and-play.

Then this isnt for you........ do yourself a favor and drop $40 for a stick. Stay away from logitech.. they dont last.

Il2 would be pretty much unflyable with a mouse even if you found a way to do it .. I doubt you would actually get a plane off the runway with mouse control

the FM is far harder than sims like FS2004 and CFS3

in fact its pretty hard to be competitive without rudder and throttle control neverlone without a joystick

Okay
What's a good jetfighter game for stupid poor people then?

I'm too stupid to learn the controls on sims.
And I'm too poor to get a joystick.

If you're too poor to buy a joystick, where did you get the money for the game? Or the computer to run it? Or the electricity to power it? Or the house to play it in?

I use an cheap joystick, a Saitek Rumble Force. I've had it for two years and it still works like its brand new. It even has most of the perks of a FFB joystick, like vibrating when taxiing, or firing the guns. I get a slight buffet when my plane is about to stall, which I hear is one of the best features of a FFB joystick for flight sims.

I paid $19 for it at Best Buy. If you can't spend that much money for a low-end joystick, don't expect to enjoy Forgotten Battles at all.

Goto *ugh* WalMarts and get a 20$ Saitek Cyborg Graphite. Best joystick made for many, many reasons, and the most Full Real for WW2 flight simming. Otherwise I never shop at WalMarts http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

What specific features does the Graphite have? My Rumble Force seems hard to beat, considering that its the same price but has many of the benefits of FFB.

You can play this game with a mouse. You need to install a virtual joystick and then run the mouse-to-joy application that comes with the virtual joystick driver.

Search google for ppjoy

Its not as hard to fly with a mouse as one might think.. you just have to be gentle. Good luck!

mmm, don't know about Rumble~Force.

Okay, my Saitek Cyborg Graphite has the following Features...

(1) 6 inch deflection measured from top of stick from full back to full forward, and measured from full left to full right. This is huge. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif Measure your top full throw deflection.

(2) Smoothest working hat switch I have seen, although the diagonals don't work well, the 4 normal deflections are superb. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

(3) Although it only has three (3) buttons, they are Extra Large huge buttons just below and surrounding the hat switch. These buttons are the most easily reached of sticks going from hatswitch I have tried in stores, and give a gentle yet very tactile depress and click. For extra ease of use, I place a small clear plastic sticky bumper on each button (mouse buttons too). This allows you to touch only the raised bumpers, amazing really, as your thumb glides naturally and quickly from button to button. The three buttons is more realistic for a real life World War 2 aircraft control column. This does not apply to LOMAC where the X~45 and its HOTAS concept provides some realism. Don't forget, HOTAS is not a computer gaming idea, but a real life military solution appearing sometime in the 1970s or so era jets.

(4) Massive joystick. Massive heavy base. Very large and simple. Very stable.

(5) By far the largest and most smooth functioning throttle in any joystick made (or that I know--okay).

(6) Pure USB driven. It does not even come with any software. Don't need it! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif Very simple to use. Plug stick in USB port the first time, start FB, set inputs, Fly.

(7) Works well with uber cheap working class flight sim solution 40$ racing pedals, although when I installed the pedals, the joystick was changed to USB device 2 and that took a little while to fix in "conf" file and/or FB Input Menu. Even cheap racing pedals make all the difference in the world for hitting target.

Only problem could be the centering may be a little too physically strong, you over control when you take the stick out of the center, at least until you learn to Deal with it.

Oh, (8) and only 20$ at WalMarts.

Forgot (9) Great smooth yet tactile trigger with pleasant click.

Flying with the mouse is like using your feet to hold the steering wheel and drive. Nuff said.

I tried it also, problem is that view stays linked to mouse, so you control and look around at same time. How to disable look function on mouse ingame? I have x45, but this will be interesting when at office. Help please i want to fly at work!

To be honest, I didn't think anyone would actually do it. lol.

I use TrackIR, so mouse-look wasn't a problem. I did try mouse flying at work, so I know exactly what you're talking about.

Try tweaking the mouse speed in FB so that it looks ahead of where you are going. If you can't get decent results try installing newview.. it should (with tweaking) help greatly.

Fly-by-mouse takes a steady hand.
