a 3 questions and then you're thrown into the valley of death rule, lol. There'd be about 6 members left after the first week!

Was thinking more that it's a shame that news of 190's first flight for nigh on 60 years has not been discussed a bit more here.

Good link though.

Nice!. It would be so cool to be able to go to an airshow in a few years and see both the 190 & 109.

I couldn't care less if its 100% authentic as long as they tried stay in the ballpark.

As long as you have posted here I don't know why lack of attention to this would surprise you bazzaah2.

The general rule of of thumb for GD is post something really intresting like this, maybe after 48 hours 2 pages. Post the ------ is not ------ correctly or even better I like to pi$$ and moan about the film industry and what a nappy job it does of educating my kids......5 pages in 4 hours. Gauranteed.

Back to the plane, I completly understand the politics and emotions involved but at least IMHO its a shame we won't get to see them with the paint jobs they flew during the war.

Before you even start, wishing to see something the way it really looked doesn't make one a nazi lover.

right udidtoo, watching the BF-109 with it's original painting would be cool. The Mustangs and Spits show victory markings in the airshows, why not see this BF-109 with it's 90 victory markings? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

In May 1942, Nazi submarines sank two Mexican tankers, and Mexico declared war against the Axis powers. Thus forming the 201st Mexican Fighter Squadron equipped with the P-47D and sent to fight in the Pacific

I hope they keep all reproduction war birds as real as can be.

On one hand, the new fuel tanks and aluminum plates instead of armor in that airframe make it lighter and better handling. So it's not gonna really create the exact feel of a real 190A if your the pilot.

On the other hand...It's not as dangerous to fly as a real 190 either...

It's a trade-off...As long as I can't tell that it's a reproduction by walking up to it or sitting in it, it's close enough!

I have no problems with 100% accurate or near accurate reproductions of WW2 planes.

Im half and half wanting to see them fly but also think they should be preserved for future generations to see, so reproductions are a good thing. It just means theres no history behind the individual planes.

What I don't like is seeing things like repro spitfires made from wood powered by allisons http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif. To me thats wrong.

wood? Ugh...

What they should be doing is digging up the plans for those old planes and makeing reproductions. Engines and all!

Set up a line for some nice DB-605's or 601's, or some Merlins for those planes, and make the airframes like the would have been in WWII.

'They' can be any person or group interested in makeing reproduction aircraft.

'Who's paying' is whoever's buying the reproduction.

I'm all for the most authentic reporductions possible. After all, flying Spits can't be pushed too hard these days because of airframes. An accurate reproduction would enable it to be pushed at airshows so we can see what it and others could really do. Proper combat colours would be good too for eventual LW repros/rebuilds.

Think they mention DB601s on the FlugZeug website - good to see enthusiasm and capitalism combining like that.

Now, if only I had endless millions.....sigh.

As far as authenticity goes, they're doing everything they can to make it as close to the original Fw-190A-8 as possible (close enough for the German government to issue them the next series of serial numbers in the 190 progression from WWII, and letting them designate the new aircraft as Fw-190A-8/N.)

The engine is an ASh-82. There aren't any BMW-801's available, so they went with the Russian engine. It's a close match in power, weight and size, and I'm guessing it's a lot more maintainable too. No guns (obviously) and as someone mentioned, aluminum plate instead of steel armor (the aluminum is of the same dimensions as the original steel IIRC.) The tailwheels are all from the original WWII production run (wonder where they found a cache of those?)

A beautiful project, and obviously a labor of love for Flug Werk. Now I just need to save up enough money for a kit and extras (engine, instruments, avionics, wiring harness fabrication and installation, and paint.) Somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.5M ought to cover it (plus hangar rental, insurance, fuel, maintainance etc.) Anybody know what kidney's are going for on E-bay these days?

If you read the site, its 100% authentic except for aluminum armor, and the mods for the non-original engine and the gas tanks, radio, avionics...

The basic airframe is right on. I've seen it up close and personal, and too a ton of pictures - There is one going together in Urbana IL at Frasca's field.

I believe at one point they (Flugwerk) mentioned that additional oil cooling was going to be added in place of the MG131 cowl guns, which seems an excellent idea from a engine longevity standpoint (TBO).

From a dedicated FW190 simmers standpoint, it grates on the nerves that the engine must come from the dreaded La5FN, however from a real world standpoint, it is a near 'perfect' fit and almost definitely the reason the aircraft can be sold so 'cheaply' ($600,000 seems dirt cheap for a warbird). An extremely interesting project, makes one wish he was an eccentric millionaire. Gonna go buy a lottery ticket I suppose.

I read that they did move it
quote:
Cooling of the engine and the engine oil was a major item on the list of verifying the FW 190 systems. In contrast to the original set-up, the oil-cooler is relocated from inside of the engine cowling to the new location under the upper gun-hood. This change will enhance oil- as well as engine-cooling and will not be discernible from the outside. The cooling fan is an operational unit which sports ground-adjustable blades. By changing the incidence of the fan-blades, the cooling system can receive a basic adjustment in order to cater for different climates in which the a/c will be flown and thus increase efficiency. The fan turns at the propeller rotational speed and is integrated into the spinner's back-plate.
