i think were going to need a bigger boat

BTW,how'd you fit a life boat in the tiny cockpit of a Zero or Hellcat?

Either you swim with the fishes,go down with your bird,or if you've got floats, land on the water. but then the dumb pilot that we've already got in FB hit the water then sink towards the bottom floor, drown, then never to be heard from again. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

But in the un-likly event that we get the 'Baka' i.e Kamikazi plane, you'll be swimming either way, their pits are bolted down tight,no escape http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

ROTFL... I need to see only one thing: when you are on the carrier, Ctrl+E to escape from the plane (like in IL-2/FB/AEP), run across the deck... and then S*it happends ! - you run out of the deck http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

First flight sim with bungee jumping included !(bungee jumping ropes wil be availble in next patch http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

"Ah...I believe you are going to ignore this particular problem until it swims up and bites you in the A*S!" - Matt Hooper, shark lover.

Sorry, had to plug in another Jaws line...I'm done. Please proceed with the original train of thought. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

(BTW, in Peter Benchley's book (the book that the Jaws movie was based on) Hooper was actually eaten by the shark.)

It's not in the cockpit. Even planes in the ETO had an inflatable dinghy.

Well if its not in the cockpit, hows the pilot supposed to get it out of a sinking or burning plane in the middle of the ocean? And what if it got hit by an enemy aircraft, not much use of a boat when it has holes in it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

When ditched properly, the aircraft should stay afloat for X number of seconds (depending on plane type of course).

The pilot could inflate his life vest after hopping on the wing, pop off the fuselage panel over the dinghy, yank it out, and pull the cord to inflate it. They even had a small sail, paddle, and a collapsable mast.

the hellcat and the wildcat both had life boats. they were made of a self sealing rubber. a co2 capsule filled the raft. here is a photo of where it is on the wildcat. its the yellow thing behind the cockpit.
the zreo also had one but it was inside a hatch it the tail if i remember correctly. http://www.largescaleplanes.com/articles/WW2/RickCotton/F4F4/cat4.JPG

Guess it's not easy to make use of the raft unless you're lucky enough to make a nice quiet little ditch...

I second the life raft request...I always feel so sorry for the poor guys going in the water... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Be sure to take some salt and pepper with you. I hear sharks like to season there food too.

Great, just what we need. Now instead of JUST "You were captured" when you fall behind enemy "lines" (don't know how this'll work anyway), but now we'll have "You were eaten by a shark" whether in friendly or enemy waters.

I never knew about the liferaft in the fuselage of the Hellcat!

However I do know that in the P-47 and P-51 the liferaft formed part of the pilots personal equipment and they basically sat on it along with their chute.I've read several pilot biographies and all mention the discomfort from sitting on it for long periods of time.
