When you are in AP and switch from an external to inside the pit view does it still turn off the autopilot ?

Actually it's autopilot malfunction, it worked OK in the original IL2, switching screens should not change AP status !

It's an option you set. Not a bug. Change it. Easy to do...

OK, well excuse my noobness, I recall others complaining about it early on but do not recall ever seeing anyone talk about fixing it by changing a setting. I also don't recall seeing it as an option. Would it be too much to ask where ? Is it in the config file ?

I quite honestly don't care about the view from the 190 pit or whether the he roll rate is hosed on the P47. I also don't see what the big deal is about the P51. It doesn't fly any better than any other other allied planes once it's wings have been sawed off by 20mm's !
