YOu take a dog, feed it, shleter it, pet it and give it a good home. The dog thinks you are a god.

You take a cat, feed it, shelter it, etc and the cat looks at you disdainfully and thinks "I AM A GOD!!"

I've had dogs and cats all my life. Dogs for the last 20 years or so have been Aussie Cattle dogs. Heelers. They're incredibly intelligent, and fiercley loyal as well as very protective of their perceived turf.

My present dog is 13 years old, arthritic, grouchy and would still lay his life on the line for me for ANYTHING except getting his picture taken. I guess he thinks his butt is lovely.

My slightly ******ed cat on the other hand LOVES cameras.

I've had several cats, but they never came close to the companionship my pup gives me. Cats are more like furry furniture.

I prefer cats, they arn't as needy. Dogs you have to feed, shelter and play with and then they go drink out of the toilet and slobber all over the place. Cats you feed, shelter and occasionally pay attention to and they are happy. No slobber, no mess, no shoes turned into chew toys and so on. As you can tell I'm not a fan of dogs. Cats can also feed themselves if you go out of town, dogs can't.

Zoo keeper. I have had snakes, rats, tarantulas, lizards, Chinchillas, rabbits, mice, sheep, goats and of course, cats and dogs.
Recently we lost two of our beloved cats and are down to two cats and one dog.

This is Jennifer. She likes to sit beside the computer and bat at the cursor. She also likes to watch me play but rests her head on the numpad which throws off my view quite a bit.
http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/nightschpanker/Jennifersmall.jpg

And one dog... Her name is Shannon and she was a puppy mill rescue some 11 years ago. Blind in one eye and half deaf she is the best dog-like creature that has ever lived with me. Supposed to be a pure bred Shih Tzu but she's really small.

Major Death you're quite right. But you see I have two little monsters in the shape of Turkish Van cats, and they really are as closest to dogs as one animal can be.

When someone new enters in my house they immediatelly start sniffing the confused stranger (even bite 'em ---happened once to my best friend and my dad also---http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif). They are (very) stubborn and determined. And like human presence a lot, they very much enjoy to play with me and other humans who are willing to play with 'em (with little balls, sticks with rope and such). They open doors in my house (I must lock some of them to prevent them to escape), and doors on my shelf etc.(cat's curiosity http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif), also they are not affraid of the water like the rest of the cat family.

Here's some pics of Turkish Van cats:

I have had a number of pets, ranging from fish (my favourite was a Polypterus), stick insect, spider (a Gramostola roséa) through the more familiar vertebrates. I had a cat once, but had to give it away when I moved. Nice cat, it looked a lot like HH Dubbos.

The "pets" I have had longest are polecats (Mustella putorius dom.) that a female roomy of mine brought to our shared apartment. They are nasty critters, combining the worst sides of cats and dogs with a few vices of their own, not something I recommend anyone. I actually had to shoot the last one, the only one of the beasts I liked.

I'll stick to non-amniotes hereafter.

Fly friendly!

Awww come on Toad I am behaving myself aint I ? Honest, I am put the bat away mate lol.

Some real interesting responses here although I see that Cats are currently the favourite with Dogs coming in at second place.

Good to see we have a few Zoo keepers out there too besides TOAD http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif lol. Sounds like Finding a safe place to sit could be a problem in your house at times Dobbo (spiders!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif)

Polecats?!? I seen em but never thought of keeping em as pets. I bet they are a real handful lol

Never understood why folk seem to think cats are cleaner than dogs but its a common assumtion. Gotta admit we got a couple of cats in my street think nothing of routing round every ones trash on collection day. And one nasty little furball that just loves crapping on my drive lol. It actually gave me the eye one day as is strolled over from its house to do it as if to say..

'Yeah ? And what are you gona do about it?'

So I dunno about em not having any personality, they sure have attitude to spare lol. Still liked the fury furniture remark Weather man lol

Keep em coming and thanks all.

Growing up with some wooded area I was fortunate enough to raise and live with many species. Some really weren't suitable for real pets such as squirrels, raccoons, snakes etc.. At this point I prefer a cat but we've been considering a small Shiitzu dog. Like SteveV I also had quite a number of birds. I hand reared Rosella parakeets and a disabled African Grey parrot, and went through a few years owning numerous parakeet/parrot/conure species. They are engaging, highly intelligent and personable.

Pretty much a zoo keeper. When I was young I used to bring home almost anything. We've raised rabbits, robins, sparrows and have a perennial swallows nest under the back porch roof.

For a time I bred fancy guppies. I guess that's why my parents got us a dog. A Sheltie. Then ten years later another Sheltie. Soon after I got married in 1989, we bought another Sheltie, but this one looked more like a Border Collie than a Sheltie. We had him until the little humans started arriving. We also had turtles, catfish and goldfish. Right now we have three rabbits, two goldfish and Ebony, who will be a year old on the 17th.

After reading Chainsawofdoom's thread about his skunks I was more than curious to open this one. Threads like this are what makes the community a community.

Well, I'm a dog lover but live in Beijing. I don't feel it's right to have a dog in the city, at least not big dogs. Recently(6 months ago) I adopted 2 Havana Brown Siamese cats. They are a little odd looking with short chocolate brown hair, extremely thin with a long face.

The most interesting thing is that their personalities are more like dogs rather than cats. They steal my socks(not recommended for the squeamish), shoes, and even pillows. Seriously, they bite on to pillows and drag them away.

The best thing is one of them is a great shot. She was watching me fly one night. I was flying the K4 and wanted to practice aiming the 108. As I was coming up on an enemy my cat(purely by chance of course) stepped on the space bar( set to weapon 2) and blasted the enemy. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

One more thing, they really seem to like watching football(soccer). They sit on the coffeee table and watch the whole game. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Cats can be interesting but a dog is truly a "man's best friend". My next home will be Bavaria and I'll have 2 German Shepards. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

At the moment we have one (or maybe two) cat(s), two rabbits
and one horse. Some years ago we had six cats, one horse and
five or six rabbits. Most of the cats were kittens that we
gave away to various people. They've all died an early death http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif
seems to happen to all animals leaving our home.
As for cats, they're my favourite pets. Dogs are over-obedient,
slobbery and generally stupid http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif while cats are independent and a lot
smarter, e.g. they don't eat their own poo http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I have one or two cats. One I know of and one I haven't seen since January.
The one I know about is Tigger, a short-furred one with black stripes
on brown fur and a nervous personality.
The other is Hobbes (they're brothers and they hate each other)
He's about the same but with white paws and a lot longer fur
that makes him look all fuzzy, like something in between a pile of
dust and those dry things that roll around in all Western movies.
While we're used to Hobbes taking off in late March and coming back in early November we did get a little worried
when he disapeared in early January. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif hope to have him back before
Christmas and then I'll castrate him! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

Just the one cat called Snuffles. I lost Pepsi due to cancer about 4 Months ago. She was 17 so I guess she had a good life. She was half Siamese and half Persian and was very clever. The other cat called Snuffles used to copy anything that Pepsi did and so appears to be clever but is not. She's 13/14 and loves to stop me from using the PC. 95% Bombay and the only three things stopping her from being a show cat are an white whisker, a small white patch on her front, and a hump on her back (this was from some thug who chucked her out of a speeding car when she was little (that was told to me from the person that I got her from)).

Jack: You see, Greg, when you yell at a dog, his tail will go between his legs and cover his genitals, his ears will go down; a dog is very easy to break. But cats make you work for their affection. They don't sell out the way dogs do.

he's got a squirrel army of sorts

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Jack: You need that assurance, do you? You prefer an emotionally shallow animal?

Greg: I ...

Jack: You see, Greg, when you yell at a dog, his tail will go between his legs and cover his genitals, his ears will go down; a dog is very easy to break. But cats make you work for their affection. They don't sell out the way dogs do.

Greg: Hmm.

LOL really funny film the toilette shot was just the funniest.

Good to see that a love of animals is one thing that we all seem to have in common.

(ahem I mean that in a strictly platonic sense of course)

I'm a cat person, no doubt. I like dogs too, but cats are certainly my favourite pet. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Oberleutnant Oskar-Walter Romm thoughts on his aircraft.

"I found the Fw 190D-9 to be greatly superior to those of my opponents. During dogfights at altitudes of between about 10,000 and 24,000ft, usual when meeting the Russians, I found that I could pull the D-9 into a tight turn and still retain my speed advantage. In the descent the Dora-9 picked up speed much more rapidly than the A type; in the dive it could leave the Russian Yak-3 and Yak-9 fighters standing."

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - G√ľnther Rall

Was gone for a few days, and I miss an awesome thread! Bit OT, but I like it, and am glad it's still around. I feel like we really get to know the "family." Thanks all!

We like dogs here. My wife isn't fond of cats, and, being a Marine, I've got to have a Bulldog, so...

My co-pilot is an English Bulldog that I affectionately call "The Bull." She's quite a character!
