View Full Version : The LaGG-3 and a question about Campaigns

Of late I have rediscovered the joys of offline campaigns ( and the immersion that is difficult to achieve with online dogfights) after a stint as various german bombers /stuka and jabos I decided to pick a slightly poorer performer from the Russian side- as I didn't want anything uber-crappy I went for the lagg3 1941 model. Although not an incredible performer - I have to say I have fallen in love with this plane. I don't know if the patch has done this but it's armament is excellent - iv'e been knocking 109's out of the sky in droves. - and not just with the cannon (and two mg's linked to it ) but with the other separate two mg's alone - - they kick *** !! - now I've modified a skin for myself - I think I've found my new favourite plane.

Anyhow - whilst two missions into a campaign starting at smolensk I made a foolish mistake and crashed on the runway - managing to run from my plane before it blew.- I quit the game and without thinking pressed the apply button (I must have instant success on) - I didn't realise it but I had been badly injured in the crash .

Next thing I know - I have been "returned to active service" on the Moscow map (apparently - but I can't see Moscow) and the mission brief describes how all the best planes have been moved to the defense of Moscow. Now I'm flying Mig-3's!! this annoyed me a little since there is only one plane I really can't fly and really don't like and that's the Mig3!!

Until now I was under the impression that for campaigns you select a map - do the missions on that map and when it's over you pick another map (and pick what plane you want ) - almost as if you were starting afresh - is this right? or when you've completed one map does it automatically give you a new map and select the plane for you - or does this only occur if your injured??

I think that the choices that are given to you before the campaign are just to decide WHEN you want to start your service.

After that, your destination is decided by the outcoming of war. There's no more choice. As in real life: you know, as a war pilot, you were never asked where did you prefer to fight or what was your favourite plane! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Stalin and his General Staff decided that, pal.

Hmm. Thought you knew this fluke39.

I too love the Lagg3 s `41, best early Sov plane around. It`s actually not changed much at all from original (mebbe stalls a little easier).
As for map, plane choices:
You must choose at the VERY beginning (Yes you will have to start over). Select difficulty, etc, then it will take you to a screen with your name, fictional date of birth and below map list. Click on map, say Lvov, Moscow, whatever. A scroll list will appear on plane type. Scoll and pick plane. I think you can have the Lagg quite late itno the war. Do this for each map.

Go back to start map or just leave Moscow highlighted to start there instead of very beginning.
p.s. You never actually see Moscow,,, the Germans get pushed back I think,,,

right - i see (thanks dux as well) - this makes more sense as it is more like RL (apart from the majority of pilots never got choice of plane or area to begin with!! - but modeling that is going a bit too far) - i already started a new lagg campaign anyhow. In fact the reason i don't know these things is as i've started sooo many individual campaigns - i've not actually finished any particular map -

i know we posted a similar discussion to this a couple of days ago seafire but i was a little confused still and i think i missed any responses to my second post

thanks anyway guys /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
(p.s just mapped all weapons on the lagg to one key in order to have easy access to rockets for a bomber intercept mission - man thats some nice firepower!!) you flown it online at all seafire? - does it hold it's own well or is it totally outclassed against later war planes?

Hi Fluke, Hi SeaFire

Well guys finally i can put to good use all the time spent reading this forum (and not doing my job in the meantime)

You can change your plane even if you already started your campaign ! I've done this myself with the first pilot i created after receiving the game, after 100 missions the yaer was only 1942 and i kept receiveing the bf109 and some of its variant, so i asked for help and here's what i found I thought of posting the complete text here but those threads are a bit complicated so take a look at them, i can assure that PATIENCE will be rewarded... because after flying those 100 missions with the bf109 i received my new Fw190a4 following the instructions given below:

Nonsense, I verified the joints twice!: This was the answer given by chief Mechanic Klaus Stoeffel to Oberst Lotar Von M├╝llenbrock when he complained about some strange vibrations in the wings of his Me-262 during take off. This picture show that Oberst Von M├╝llenbrock's fears were in fact quite real.

Yep on Early war servers I use it (as well as I16). Just as good on the net. Even on open servers I`ll often take over the Lagg `43 if no other choice. But it IS outclassed against later war planes.

edit: Thnx jagaetev, I`ll take a look at that.
