I'd go with MSAA2x, and you might have to turn Shadows down a bit, but you'll be pleasantly surprised. You should get a consistent 30 fps. (You'd really need SLI to get a consistent 60 fps).

Medium settings are not Ultra Max. This game is absolutely stunning on Ultra Max (which you'd be running with your suggested settings), even with MSAA2x. And it would be 30 fps minimum.

With all settings maxed and MSAA-2x I'm getting about 40 fps pretty consistently with my 970.

I run SLI and liquid cooling across the board and I'm disgusted at how mediocre the FPS is. This build is less than a month old and should be absolutely crushing this game.

I just recently got a GTX 970 myself, my optimal settings are:

Environment Quality : Ultra High
Texture Quality : Ultra High
Shadow Quality : High
Anti-Aliasing : FXAA / TXAA - I usually play with a 30 fps cap as the dips from 60 to 35 can be annoying, so a solid 30 fps experience has been great, my TV is only 30Hz too, soo yea..
Ambient Occlusion : HBAO+ (Looks the best and doesn't even affect performance.
Resolution : 1920 x 1080

I might of forgotten something, but yea, that's mine. The FPS can drop pretty low at times during certain occasions, for instance there's a mission at the Palace of Luxembourg where if I looked out the window and angled my camera to look outside and in, it would drop to 25 fps, which was another reason why I capped it at 30.

You will really enjoy Unity with a GTX 970, I don't regret the upgrade from a 660, I can play Watch Dogs and AC IV at Ultra now too haha, 60fps too :).

ok to keep it short, my 970 is OCed to 1525 Mhz/8GB memory, those are my settings:

Resolution: 2560 x 1440

Shadows: High (the one before Ultra PCSS)
Everything else Maxed out
AA: FXAA
AO: HBAO+

Avg FPS: 50
Max: 65
Min: 44

With 2xMSAA and MFAA enabled:

Avg FPS: 42
Max: 55
Min: 32

so to be honest at 1920x1080, this card should chew this game and sustain 60 FPS on the above settings, beware of PCSS, its heavy and kills performance.

1080p

settings Environment ultra high
Textures ultra high
shadows low
Ambient Occlusion SSAO
Anti aliasing MSAA-2
MSI afterburner using the msi gaming app to preset OC (I think around 1470 Mhz)

FPS from 28 to 48 as shown in this video ... just running and crowds and combat no spoilers http://youtu.be/mpt5-0t8WSA

I don't care about FPS as long as I can get past 30 it's all good

thats pretty odd, however, did you restart the game after changing it to FXAA?

Dude, I just got this card today and holy geez, this thing crushes Unity. That is a great card.

I play with everything ultra with FXAA at 2560x1440 v-sync set to half refresh rate at 30fps and never dips below that.

For some reason FXAA is very good, normally I never use because its too blurry but its not the case here.

at 1920x1080 I get 50-70 fps ultra, can't really cap it to 60, its pretty good if you don't mind a bit of screen tear

strigoi1958

I have restarted the game and changing to FXAA gives me maybe 1 or 2 fps if anything... but no freezing :D here are my settings but I have no idea what the NVCP is set at... having settings scattered around the place is not very clever....
http://youtu.be/RydI2EOtNr4 you might want to skip the loading screen between 0.30 to 0.57 ;)

You can UltraHigh/Activate everything at 1080p with TXAA on lesser cards than the desktop 970 with a good frame rate. Lesser cards can handle 1440p with settings lowered, too, which I reckon the 970 might possibly get away with in full.

The cutscene frame rate is likely to be quite low, but it is for everyone (haven't tested with a counter on, but I would guess it's about 18-20 fps). Pretty unpleasant, but the scenes themselves are nice. Maybe patches/Gameworks/DX12 will eventually help here.

V-Sync off, that's the magic word. But i HATE tearing

no issues with tearing on a 144hz monitor and single card mate.

i just about hit 140fps on BF4, so v-sync off all the way for me

i was looking for a thread like this, thanks!
and how about the other config of the pc?
what you guys would recomend? 970 + what?

Handlebar.

I run a 970 FTW 2.0 with a similar system to what you are upgrading to. I run everything maxed out, including AA. I'm getting between 40-60 FPS.

Game runs great on a system that meets recommended requirements.

I agree with Handlebar. The games runs brilliantly and on a GTX 970 / 980 4GB in max settings. (Assume the 2GB version would also work well).

Hey there is a serious problem wit the way the game is using the video cards right now. It doesn't matter what you have, no one is happy. Yesterday I read a very complex analysis of exactly what's going on and it should be fixable. Wait for the patch before you throw the baby out with the bathwater. The Ubisoft corporate leaders and majority shareholders are the ones at fault here, not the actual game makers. You honestly, believe the guys that put countless hours into this decided to put it out before its ready? This was another example of today's corporations not giving a s hit about their services or products quality. The people that made the game will fix it, it's too damn good as it is for them to not. The majority shareholders have made their money and the CEO and friends of Ubisoft will get their massive year end bonuses for meeting the target date and everyone else will get what they get. Less much less.

Well I have an old PC with a new card so, I don't have the technical knowledge to explain why some PC components work better together than others so I'll stick to the little that I do know.

The Environment and the Textures are MAXED. I hate TXAA my eyesight is blurry enough without Nvidias help :D, shadows on low because constantly going up to max doesn't guarantee the best option it is just another option and I pick what I prefer... Low shadows look infinitely better to me than high or soft... same with AA... apart from 1 or 2 things that will impact the performance, everything else seems to run similarly well.

And 40,000 FPS or 40 FPS are both equally playable (check out my small video clips) so it is not in the least bit important.

Finally got my custom Syber Vapor Xtreme today
Here are my Configs
i5-4690K
16gb 2133Mhz RAM corsair
256gb Corsair LX
EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX2.0

Game Settings
Vsync On
Ultra Environment
Ultra textures
HBAO
MFAAx2 (equivalent to MSAAx4 quality wise.. equal to MSAAx2 performance wise)
High Shadows (Although did not observe to much difference with PCSS)

FPS 40-60 while playing game
Cutscenes (at times drops to below 30.... With recording on below 25 at times .. never goes below 25 without recording.. ran the above video test 5 times to observe consistency)

The console was connected to a 1080P 60hz samsung TV.. 32 inch.. was blown away by the beauty,, Overall I would say expected performance from GTX 970 SC ... Hope ACU improves with consecutive patches.....Overall very happy with my new console
