Hey All,

What do you think would make a bigger difference in game play, a better cpu or 2nd video card.
Right now I have
Win 7 64 Ultimate
i7 950 Asus Motherboard LGA-1366 socket
GTX 770 2GB
18 GB Ram

My board is limited on what CPU upgrade it can take, only up to i7 980, I'm wondering if the CPU is more of a bottleneck than the GPU.

If you are gaming at 1080p or above your cpu is not going to be a bottleneck in 95% of games. You wont see any improvements getting another socket 1366 cpu. You could overclock your cpu if you have decent cooling there are plenty of good overclocking guides for the i7 950. As for SLI I wouldn't recommend it to anyone at the moment. I've just got rid of one of my 780's becasue SLI support is very poor and usually very late in coming to new titles. I personally think you would be better of investing in a more powerful single GPU. You should check out the new Nvidia cards the GTX970 is the one I would recommend.

I would just overclock your CPU to 3.8-4.2ghz and buy a new graphics card like a 970 or 980

SLI has been quite poor for nearly a year now. Also if you want to get the best out of SLI you might need to upgrade the CPU anyway or if you plan to game in general at 120hz or gsync then a i7 950 will limit you if you're going for 75-120 fps

Yea right now I can't play it on 1080 it's way to choppy, I don't have anything over clocked, I have been wanting to try it out to see if it makes a difference.
I would think that a brand new game should be utilizing SLI

I run a i7 930 and a GTX 970, get 50-70 fps on ultra 1080p and locked 30fps ultra at 2560x1440

SLI even in the good days rarely worked with new games. You need to wait for drivers and game updates

770 sli would be a total waste of time, too low vram and just SLI is not scaling well anyway

Thanks Blackred,

I can't believe I already need another video card, the 770 makes a year this month when I bought it. lol
Looks like my best option is too OC the cpu and get a 970 gpu.

wait a little while... Ubi are working on Unity and drivers released as game ready are usually not as good as the drivers 2 to 4 weeks later... (when card sales slow up ;) )
