I want to play a game...
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_c0Fx9w6DelI/TRz4jPXt_pI/AAAAAAAAA6g/oIj2L-b7Zic/s1600/IMG_1507.jpg

I have chosen 8 categories, the 8 which I think are most important in video games.
8 categories for 8 AC games

Your job is to put just one game into each category, you can only put one game into one category, and you must use all categories.
Don't waste a category on a game that you know is needed elsewhere ;)
e.g. let's say that Unity is terrible and the only good thing about it is the music, you don't want to waste the music category on ACB!

IMPORTANT:
If you put a game in one category, you can't put it in other, that's where the challenge is!
e.g. If you put AC4 in Art Design, you CANNOT put it in any other category

I know that it's a little subjective for Rogue and Unity, but for the sake of the game, just assume that everything you have seen from the game so far is the true experience

The 8 categories:

Art Design
Characters
Combat
Costume Design
Music/Soundtrack
Setting
Story
Replay Value

This is going to be tricky...

Remember, only one game per category, games can only be used once, and all games and categories must be used.

Art Direction - toss up between AC1, AC2 and ACR, can't decide
Characters - AC1
Combat - AC1
Costume design - AC3
Soundtrack - AC2
Setting - AC1 or AC2
Story - AC1 or AC2
Replay value - AC4 or ACB, both have a generous amount of quality side content.

So er, pretty useless post since I only gave four definitive answers.

God this is so hard

Yes it is very hard, which is why I thought it would be a fun thread

Remember guys, if you put a game in one category, you cannot put it in another.

1 game per category, and 1 category per game
I'm looking at you Megas_Doux

It's fine to give rankings in each category, but one game can't be the best in more than one category, and I see that AC4 has won 3 categories on your list

Art Design
AC1- I don't know why, but I really like the gritty textures in the original AC game. Somehow, they've felt more realistic to me than any of the more recent games (Unity possibly excluded).

Characters
ACIV- This was tough. I almost chose ACIII, but I think the "Parting Glass" scene in Black Flag illustrates how effective they were at creating characters in the game (almost exclusively out of the historical domain, no less!)

Combat
Revelations- In my opinion, the ACB/ACR combat was the best, as it wasn't just hacking like ACII, nor just countering like ACIII (and onward). There was a certain fluidity to it, and ACR's combat was just a little more visceral. Unity may very usurp this game, though, but I'm reserving my judgment for when I play it.

Costume Design
ACIV- Assuming we're specifically talking about the available costumes to the player, I feel that Black Flag has the best selection hands down, the most varied and interesting (at least from the released games). If this includes NPCs, the I'd say ACR, as I always found the wardrobes in that city to be varied and beautiful.

Music/Soundtrack
ACIII- I like the "Ezio's Family" song and the theme from ACR, but the ACIII theme always gets me so pumped up- also, I really like that whistley little tune that plays when Connor finally confronts Lee in New York.

Setting
ACL- Controversial choice, I know. Here's why I feel this is the best setting- "out of the box thinking" and variety. Think about it, the game features a city and time in history that would be vastly overlooked. Furthermore, it ranges from upstate New York all the way south to Chichen Itza. ACL is far from perfect, but I'd love to see a full AC installment try to be as globetrotting as this, I think they could do some amazing things.

Story
ACIII- What can I say, I'm a sucker for Haytham and Connor's relationship and rivalry.

Replay Value
ACIV- I could sail the seas fighting enemy ships all day erry day.

Yes it is very hard indeed!

If a game has only two good qualities, but two other games beat it in those qualities, then you kinda just have to put it somewhere else haha

Okay, let's try it again.

Art Design - 2 (concept arts, nuff said)
Characters - 3 (good 3 dimensional protagonists, templars, etc)
Combat - Unity (it looks promising enough)
Costume Design - Revelations (Ezio's Revelations robe is still one of the best, including NPCs, etc)
Music/Soundtrack - Rogue (from the glimpse and leaks, I can already tell it's a new fav)
Setting - 1 (it's beautiful)
Story - IV (there's a thread)
Replay Value - Brotherhood (it's well structured)

I'm satisfied with that. :)

[EDIT] *facepalm* I used Revelations twice... Let's see...

Art Design-AC2 because Venice and Florence are gorgeous.Paris looks great too but I'm voting AC2 since I played it
Characters-AC2,Brotherhood and Revelations because Ezio.Nothing more needs to be said
Combat-A tricky one but I'm going with AC3
Costume Design-Brotherhood by far
Music/Soundtrack-Black Flag because "Running down to Cuba with a load of sugar..."
Setting-I'll say AC3 but Black Flag is close though
Story-AC2,Brotherhood,Revelations as Ezio's story and AC3
Replay Value-Black Flag so much stuff to do in it

Art Design - AC Unity (from what I have seen so far)
Characters - AC4 (good character development, etc)
Combat - AC3 (loved the slightly unrealistic brutal kills while rolling and jumping all over the place)
Costume Design - AC3 (if referring to the protagonist's main robes, overall costumes would be AC4)
Music/Soundtrack - AC4 (love the pirate vibe and the shanties)
Setting - AC4 (dat Caribbean tho)
Story - AC4 (refer to 'best story' thread)
Replay Value - AC4 (could play it for the rest of my life)

Some people seem to be forgetting that part of the challenge is not using a game in more than one category

If I had to choose one:

Characters - AC3
Combat - AC3
Costume Design - AC3
Music/Soundtrack - AC3
Setting - AC3
Story - AC3
Replay Value - AC3

Alright Kiwi, your rules aren't hard to follow. I'll do it.

Art Design- AC1 I didn't really like it, this was the only thing left for AC1.
Characters- AC Rogue As I was reading through the characters I was surprised as to how interested I was in each one. Probably because a lot of them are frontiersman or similar.
Combat- ACU I guess with the new and improved combat system Unity takes the cookie here.
Costume Design- ACB The best costume design I can think of in ACB was that mission when you assassinate the Banker and the men and women were dressed up in those animal costumes. Those were pretty cool.
Music/Soundtrack- AC2 I loved Ezio's family and the like. The soundtrack really helped seal the Italian feel and I loved the woman vocals.
Setting- ACR Although the other games had better settings, Capadocia was pretty cool and I'm glad it introduced me to such an awesome place.
Story- AC3 I really loved Connor's tale and his interactions with Haytham were amazing. I happened upon a video of Connor and Haytham's interactions compiled and I'm glad. The AC games have great stories.
Replay Value- AC4 I've spend a huge amount of time in the MP for this game. Combined with the amazing naval, this game has tons to offer. I still have to get the 2 last treasure chests this weekend.

Great thread idea as always Kiwi! :o

I've given it some thought, and here is mine:

Art Design - AC4 - dat water and dem palm trees, beautiful
Characters - Brotherhood - the historical figures in it were great, but each one had a really good personality, it was icing on the cake
Combat - AC3 - loved how brutal Connor was, and was a good mix of difficult learning curve, and good flow
Costume Design - AC2 - beautiful Renaissance attire
Music/Soundtrack - Revelations - Road to Masyaf wins it by itself
Setting - AC1 - the further back in time, the better IMO, and The Crusades were such a unique and intriguing series of wars
Story - Rogue - TEMPLARS!!
Replay Value - Unity - looks to have tonnes of side content, and co-op missions means something different every time

pirate1802

Okay here I am with one more try:

Art Design - ACR. Istanbul was just precocious.
Characters - AC3. Unconventional protag, unsettling Templars.
Combat - AC1. Slow and sluggish, but best (imo) of the series. One Unity should emulate.
Costume Design - AC Rogue. Not a big fan of the hood, and his flashy templar costume fits because unlike assassins, templars are supposed to be opulent.
Music/Soundtrack - ACB. Since AC2 and ACR are taken... this is still very good.
Setting - AC2 - After the Caribbean, this is my favourite.
Story - AC IV, as explained in the best story thread.
Replay Value - AC Unity cuz co-op

yay! I haz sexeeded!

Art Design: AC1. It was the game that started it all and set the standard of Art Design for games to come.
Characters: Rogue. Haven't played it yet obviously, but playing as a Templar might add some interest for the character.
Combat: AC3. Because this is where it fits after I filled everything else in.
Costume Design: ACB: It was my favourite assassin's robe so far, and I loved the Renaissance outfits in general especially the Doctors' outfits.
Music/Soundtrack: AC2. I loved the ambient music, as well as most of tracks including "Ezio's Family" and the one played in the The Truth.
Setting: Unity. It's hard to judge it on anything else right now because no one has played it. But the setting has me hooked already.
Story: AC4. I loved the narrative of story, especially how some of the plot developed towards the end.
Replay Value: Revelations. Because of it's multiplayer, and I wouldn't swap it with any other multiplayer games on this list.
