I am feeling depressed. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif I cannot find a good WWII movie that has a lot of aerial combat in it, or even just planes. I just watched Tora!Tora!Tora!, and it was good, but it was old and doesn't have good special effects. I was wondering if you had a favorite you would reccomend watching. Thank you! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Tora!Tora!Tora! is a well known movie but rather dissapointing if you expect a lot of dogfighting scenes.

Try:
Tuskagee airmen
Memphis Belle

Just remember there arent any movies with "a lot" of aerial combat....just those who have a bit more than the others http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

you can try Pearl Harbor, it has some nice dogfight scenes... the only good the movie has to offer

In May 1942, Nazi submarines sank two Mexican tankers, and Mexico declared war against the Axis powers. Thus forming the 201st Mexican Fighter Squadron equipped with the P-47D and sent to fight in the Pacific

Tuskegee Airmen is more about politics than flying IMO.
Pearl Harbor contains more CGI than real planes, and a realy weird triangle love story. "!!Puke!!" They had a good idea, but somehow just screwed it all up.
Memphis Belle is a good movie though, if you can stay awake during the first 45 min. Plus, it's not authentic at all - I have original Memphis Belle from 1944, and her last flight was nowhere as exciting as the movie depicts.

how 'bout Dark Blue World... it is about a couple of Chekoslovak pilots who escape to England to fly Spits in the BoB...very nice if you have home theatre sound - lots of really good flying and an ok storyline.

Dark Blue World...definitely the best WWII combat aviation movie in the last twenty years or more. Great plot/story, good flying scenes, excellent character development...In native languages with appropriate subtitles...English, Czech, Russian, German... This movie is a MUST-See for WWII aviation entusiasts.
here's a couple of teaser scenes from the movie...

Dark Blue World should satisfy your desire for WWII aerial combat. It has quite a lot of great looking battle scenes.

Dark Blue World is probably the best overall, at least of the modern ones. It does, unfortunately, have the love triangle story, but it doesn't ruin the movie as badly as it did to Pearl Harbor.

Here is some information on it.

IF YOU CAN FIND IT, "FIGHTER SQUADRON". MADE A FEW YEARS AFTER THE WAR, GREAT COMBAT FOOTAGE FROM GUN CAMERAS, AND NO BROADS GUMMING UP THE WORKS WITH POLITICALLY CORRECT NONSENSE. ALL P-47'S AND P-51'S AS 109'S.

And you surely thought "pearl harbor" was great... P.S. Did the flashbacks and forward jumps in DBW confuse you? Could you tell who the Germans were, and the Russians, and the czechs... The movie did have a plot, somewhat complex, and did take a bit of concentration.

If you need t and a in yourmovies, that says it all. ....
and the aerial combat scenes in DBW were realistic, not Hollywood-style "Dogfighting".. I assume you BELIEVED that B.S. cartoon-style Dogfighting action of "pearl harbor"??!!! Ben to Josh in their P40's: "Hey, get that jap to follow you past that there tower...and our guys hiding in the tower will shoot that dumb Jap down with their Springfields and tommy guns!"

Oh yeah, that's a good one! Also check out "Band of Brothers" too! Not many planes mind you, just ground pounders. However, there are alot of great C-47 shots. Overall, super high production value.

And I also agree about "Fighter Squadron." I saw that one time long ago, good film.

Is Zenos Drive in still in exsistance?

Try "The War Lover" with Steve McQueen, "Memphis Belle", "12 o'Clock High" with Gregory Peck.

"The War Lover" has some great action scenes in it with the B17s and 109s. It's a classic IMO. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Dark blue world is a good movie but I could swear that they use Battle of Britain dog fight footage.

BOB was the best air combat movie and Midway was pretty good too.

See you in the fence....
