Mr Shade just recently made a sticky thread about SPOLERS and when to post a warning (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/938931-*IMPORTANT*-Please-read-SPOILER-WARNING-RULES!?p=10292224#post10292224).
Any ideas why exactly now? Random? Leaks/spoilers appearing on the internet? Time to go dark?

Mr_Shade
10-27-2014, 04:29 PM
Would be best to ask me?

We always start to really enforce the spoiler rules [which are sometimes ignored at other times] a couple of weeks before release - as we have done every year - so people don't get the game ruined for them ;)

We attempt to keep the forums clear - so people can remain here.

Because the games have gone gold and release is just around the corner. A spoiler crackdown was inevitable.

If you do the going dark thing, then now would be a good time to do so.

For those that don't, be sure to refer to Shade's stickied post (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/938931-*IMPORTANT*-Please-read-SPOILER-WARNING-RULES!) carefully.

Not to say that you would lie, but it could be that you are not allowed to tell the truth... and if leaks/spoilers appeared on the internet you would most likely not go: "Here you go, Sir!" and point us to the leaks/spoilers^^
But I think it's good because I was spoilered about Yusuf dying when Revelations came out-.-

Mr_Shade

Ok...

Well that's the reason.. if you or anyone else wants to go poking about actively looking for spoilers on the net - so be it - but lets not bring them back here ;)

One question:
How long after the game release date does the "spoiler lockdown" last? I'm asking because I'm a bit worried about getting spoiled about Rogue related stuff because I'm planning to get it for PC and it doesn't even have a release date yet, besides early 2015. Or should I just be extra careful in the forums until that (and I know I will be)?

We will enforce the current spoiler warning rules for a couple of months - however, they will remain in place for Rogue in the PC forum until it's release.

Well Unity is now available for pre-load,which means many people already have the game in their consoles, waiting for the release date. That could mean it's already finished, and now there's probably some fixes being made.

What does it mean when a game goes Gold?

When it's sold a lot of preorders?

When it's got a lot of positive reviews?

Sorry for being a noob :o

Means the game is done!

"Gone gold" means that the gold "master" CD has been delivered to manufacturing (the CD may or may not actually be gold. The term derived from the fact that CD-R media used to be gold colored. "Gone green", "Gone blue", or "Gone silver" just doesn't have the same feel as "Gone gold"). This is the CD from which all shipping CDs are pressed (shipping CDs are pressed, not burned like the master CD). Depending on the manufacturing run, a game that has "gone gold" may ship to stores in as little as a few days or as late as a few months.

You may also see "RTM", an acronym for "Released To Manufacturing". It means the same thing as "gone gold". "Gone gold" is usually used for games, while "RTM" is usually used for applications. For web sites, you may see "RTW", an acronym for "Released To the Web", as a similar statement to "RTM" or "Gone Gold".

It's out in the wild already? Surely not this early.
I remember we got a few images from inside a warehouse full of AC3 copies at around this time, which got everyone giddy with excitement, but Unity's release date is 2 weeks after AC3's so I'm not entirely sold.

EDIT: scratch that, just checked and it turns out that work on AC3 was completed on the 21st of September and the warehouse images surfaced in early October, this could well be the real deal.

As tempting as staying completely off the Internet sounds, lol not going to happen :D
(I'm waiting for PC release because I don't own a last gen console but I'm pretty sure my PC can handle Rogue just fine.)
But yea it sure is going to be an interesting time, avoiding spoilers is something I can do just fine in other parts of the Internet but I still don't like them blasted on my face unwarned (forum thread titles mostly)

The game was always going to be ready for the 28th. Two weeks is a short time so before the actual release date they still would have been made anyway. They probably have some in house patches they need done before release or some other things.

 what on earth makes you think that?

The fact that it was delayed. We know you've finished the core game, so there must be some major bugs for a two week delay. I assume that without the patch there could be a few issues playing it.

Two weeks would allow for polishing etc and final touches - and allow for extra testing to make sure it's a great experience ;)

End of the day - some people have their own agendas and assumptions - however 2 weeks isn't really a great deal of time, so not all delays are always due to major issues ;)

However I can see some would rather assume that ;)

Maybe AC3/AC4 with their lack of 'animus translation' spoiled me (in those games there's no translations, if a spaniard's speaking English, he's speaking English not Spanish, etc.), but coming back to Ezio's games (AC2/ACB mostly) Italian accent all over the place sounds weird to me, like they're not actually speaking Italian (though I didn't have problems with that before). In that sense I think I prefer the ACU approach.

AC1 did it as well, Al Mualim, the Assassins, the Bureau leaders, the town criers, the civilians etc, they all had an accent even though they were technically speaking their native tongue, Altair was bizarrely the only exception.

That's the curious thing, AC1 doesn't strike me as 'weird' in comparison to other games. I think that's because the accents in AC1 are not as strongly evident as they are in AC2/ACB. Maybe that's just due to the quality of voice acting. There are a bunch of characters in AC2/ACB who just try painfully much to be Italian.

Maybe, characters like Al Mualim had a mature tone even though they spoke with an accent, but it was still equally as caricature and exaggerated as the Ezio trilogy in most parts, especially with people like the town criers and guards

"INFIDEL, DIE!"
"You dare steal in my presence? THAT WILL COST YOU YOUR LIFE!"
"The satan is EVERYWHERE, watching, waiting, he tempts us always, be strong, STRONG LIKE SALAHADIN!"

Yeah, those are some seriously nostalgic pieces of dialogue, non of the succeeding titles had memorable NPC ramblings quite like AC1 did. I love the game for that reason.

"Just a few coins, please. I'm poor and sick and hungry"
"No, you don't understand!"
(I always do it in the voices haha).

My theory with console copies already showing up is that they only delayed because of the PC version, but didnt want the outrage of delaying just the PC version which would mean that the console version of the game is already finished/ready for distribution which would explain DVDs already being out on the street this early. The totally high system requirements for the PC version speak for a bad optimization for PC and would support my theory.
