Someone stepped up and hosted it.

it can be downloaded here.
http://www.nr.no/~pab/il2.html

Heh i originally had stuff to write about it for its introduction but i wont bother. It requires xvid if you dont allready have it. http://www.divx-digest.tv/software/codec/XviD_Install.exe

My next video will look(asethetically) more like my first movie(turns out rain passed through an encoder dosnt look to great), but have the story, camera work and music of the second.

Very special thank you to Pettera for hosting it.

questions comments allways wellcome.

Hi Davinci

I'm dowloading it right now, hope this is your second video, i already have your first one and besides the controversial music choice i think it deserves a place among the top three videos on sturmovik's theme.

Hi Falcon

I'm sorry but the office was cleared due to some protests going around here. Altough September 11th is a date that affected the whole world forever, here in my country that date represents also a wound that still bleeds after 30 years.

Good flight to you !

DaVinci:
A Work of Art!! ( I guess that is why you choice DaVinci as your forum screenname)... I personally think this one has raised the bar, once again, to a new level...

It took me a second or two or three to get the "message" as the end of the movie approached...it finally hit me as the "second" 47 taxied onto th parking apron...then the hairs on the back of my neck arose with a slight chill.....Very Creative!!!

I'll definitely get it up on My Site for viewing/downloading at the first opportunity, probably by Tuesday or Wednesday of this coming week.

Really a nice video although it was real slow at the start and slowed down a bit in parts. The really kewl visual effects in FB are a nice showcase in this one.

I liked the Enemy at the Gates music, but kept thinking where are the Russkies? That last song was already used by NTESLA, I think in his classic black and white movie, but it was a good recycle.

Overall it had a very nice artistic touch. I really don't think that it 'raised' the bar, but it was right there. Great work ~S~

Oh yes, a very excellent artistic movie. Real nice usage of the weather and excellent camera angles and shots. I really enjoyed this one. Nice sharp res picture and smooth as butter. I noticed the intro is kind of like your visual sig, very nice indeed.

Well, you know you will have to make more movies right? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

it was ment to be slow for the most part, If i wanted all action i would have made it such. Is that what you prefer?

i was actually not pleased with the visual look of this video, because of its setting(thunder/rain) once passed through the compressor the video came out all grainy, like there was background noise or static in it. I was/am very unhappy with that.

curious, do you judge the background music and ask if it fits the country on screen at the time for all movies?? or just mine?

last song is Adagio for Strings choral, i asked for ideas for music on another forum i visit, this was one of the things that came up, and it fit the last scene well. Chances are all of the movies you have seen or will see here will end up with some of the same music. To call one a recycle after is has been used and forgotten once would leave everyone very limited.

i find it extremely odd that you praise videos made by some people, yet trash others that are as well made if not better. You state things that are "problems"(shakeyness in chinese movies), yet these same problems are evident in the same videos you praise as "classics" and "oscar worthy". Why is that exactly?

i dont mind a bad review, hell i myself am not as happy visually with this video compared to my first. Though this video has better story, music(syncing), camera work. I am more critical about my movies then you could ever be http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Something about your post count, and your atitute towards certain movies i find very strange.

XyZspineZyX

- Well, you know you will have to make more movies
- right?

hmm not likely. The amount of work i put into pulling some of those camera shots off just isnt worth it. The inability to put custom skins on parker aircraft caused me nightmares http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif go try and get 4 aircraft(with custom skins) to line up on ground like in the final scenes of my movie(in the fmb). If that dosnt cause you headaches nothing will http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
as well as several other "special" camera shots.
then to find out no one was willing to host that darned thing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
if i do make more(which i probably will anyway), they will likely be short, storyless things. Putting actuall work into these just isnt worth it.

Davinci, don't let Black get you down, I have no idea why he thinks his opinion is sooo important, but heck this is exactly what I was talking about before.

As far as making more movies I personally hope you reconsider. Clearly, you are an excellent film maker and it would be a BIG BIG loss to not have your fantastic visuals and smooth as butter movies grace our community. Give it a few days and re-think it because we really NEED guys like you to continue to make your works of art.

DaVinci...

There are folks who have been 'growing' with the Niche hobby of 'movie-making', and then there are some newcomers who haven't seen the progress that the true experts/artists like you have achieved in less than a year!!!!

As I said up above, you are Right at the Cutting Edge...

In another forum, I tried to HiLite your work as representing that indefinable touch of artistry/emotion that Few of us can achieve.....Your "Stranger" and your "Another Day" rank alongside "Requiem" as the standard, a HIGHLY Raised Bar, in that regard.

Keep up the Great Work! As I said above, I plan to get your "Another..." movie hosted on my Site by next Wednesday.

Uclanupe is 100% correct. You have so much talent..and that would be a great loss to the community.
I don't think some people understand how much time and effort it takes to make a movie!
Specially the way you do it. So many takes, getting your buddies to fly the other aircraft, and again more re-takes..lowering the fps during captured, camera angles, then rising the fps back up to normal speed, music selection, editing, and finalizing the video.
And the final product from you is a silking smooth video that takes countless hours to create.

Hang in there my friend..you have my support!!

heh, it is all done alone, i dont use "buddies", its all me, and ai, This is for the most part why certain scenes are so hard to produce, like the fw getting shot down on takeoff, or the 4 p47s with custom skins lined up on the tarmac. It was difficult because it was all me and the ai http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
it would have been easier to do some scenes online, but last i checked online tracks playback with the netstat icon in the top right, and you cant turn it off http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Getting the ai to try and do exactly what i wanted made me go nuts http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

like i said, i will likely do more anyway. But as it stands complex scenes just arent worth the time it takes to pull them off(try and get 4 aircraft with custom skins lined up on the ground offline in the fmb).

if custom skins on parked aircraft were allowed, or the netstat icon could be removed durring track playback, it would have saved me many hours.

Davinci!

I admit, I am becoming a fan of your IL2 films! This is a great story! You definitelly have a style of your own, your use of wide open aerial enviroments and twighlighting is a trademark and truelly like it. This last movie for me had a deep meaning, you used many simbolisms in it (don't know if on purpose or not). For example on the last takes of this movie, after the Thunderbolt's wingmen have been shot down, I took it as that the new naked (non painted) replacement Thunderbolts where like the spirit/ghosts of the fallen wingmen! It was deep! That lone Thunderbolt thinking about his fallen comrades, coming alone but not really since all along they were there! Really deep meaning, at least for me. "Adagio For Strings" by Samuel Barber gave the icing to your IL2 movie cake! Great thing that you used it! Very emotional! This piece of music is so emotional that it was used for J.F Kennedy and Martin Luther King's burial ceremony...great people taken away in such a violent way from us. Keep up the great work as many of us do here. Look forward to see more of your unique work. You have my support.

Man, if all of us keep making great work like this it will make me have to buy a bigger hard drive!!! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Davinci, let me put this simply: That was the best IL-2 movie I have EVER seen! That was simply incredible!

Let me tell you something else about your latest movie. It was not merely "neat", or "cool" - it was powerful.

You have a real talent for using subtle methods to acheive outstanding results. Like the use of the static cameras. Talk about time consuming, and I can only imagine the time it took to do over and over until it was perfect. From my point of view, it was worth it, and I hope you see it that way, too.

Your choice of music was nothing short of fantastic, as well. At no point did the music seem out of place, nor did the action not fit it. You pulled it off flawlessly.

Here's what I thought were the three most striking scenes:

1) The P-47s strafing the airfield, with the bullets literally flying in our faces. It begins as a flashing speck high above, and before you know it, they have hauled past leaving destruction in their wake.

2) The 190 squadron diving down on the surviving P-47s. It's hard to put into words, but the with the way the sun shone on their backs, and the 190s screaming like birds of prey, filling the sky, put a smile on my face. Not because I found it humorous, but because I was so impressed with how you pulled it off.

3) Last, but not least, -and forgive me if I interpreted this wrong- the souls, the guardian angels, who took their place alongside their brother on the runway.

Do ya hear me, Davinci! This was just excellent work! I mean it. If you don't make any more, I'm going to be disappointed! I truely hope to see more from you in the future.

In my opinion, you are the finest movie-maker IL-2 has ever seen. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Keep it up!

Come on, you showed the way. Your "smooth as butter" film is better than any other films from a technical point of view including the king-size Chinese films. Moreover, there is a certain style in your films that give an artistic flavour beyon just capturing numerous burning wrecks.

Those of us who have tried to capture some interesting camera angels also appreciate the huge work necessary to get it perfect. It takes numerous experiments and a huge effort. So, even though you get some negative feedback don't forget that most of us are very impressed by your work. When I say (and said) that I liked the first movie better you have to keep in mind that competing with yourself is a lot more demanding than competing with the lot. Simply because I find your movies the best.

Thanks for your work. Keep'm rolling.

Petter A
