Thanks ping for the interesting articles. I've always thought the DXXI was a rather attractive a/c. Hopefully we'll see it someday in a FB add-on.

As for survivors, there is a replica built by the Fokker factory using some original parts and drawings.

I'd prefer a Fokker G1 over a Fokker D21, for obvious reasons. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yes, Heaven Forbid something should be mentioned other than the usual, tired subjects. Here is a plane that fought for three countries in WWII. It was the main fighter in the Finnish Ilmavoimat during the Winter War of 1939-40. During that frozen bloodbath, the D.XXI acheived a kill ratio of almost 13-to-1 against the Soviet Air Force. On one occasion, a Finn scored six DB-3 kills by himself.

No, there's no reason at all to discuss the last Fokker fighter... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Ping, keep such articles coming. I'm sure I won't be alone in appreciating your efforts.

On a related note, the March '04 issue of Aviation History has an article on the D.XXI titled "The Hornet from Holland." Good piece with great photos of a forgotten warrior.

Fokker DVII was the last Fokker fighter. MiG~15 was the first MiG fighter. They were pretty good too, but too bad Fokker and MiG didn't make any fighters used in WW2. Oh well. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

The D.XXI was most assuredly a Fokker's last single-engine fighter. It was used in combat by Finland, the Netherlands, and Denmark. To believe otherwise is blatantly wrong.

And you've never heard of the MiG-3?

Please remove the quoted graemlins and "swear" words shown above attributed to me. We both know they are not mine. Why would you attempt to post something like that?

Yough no problem Bill, I should have first thanked ping for the fantastic scans then joked later. I am totally ignorant on Fokker-D21 but those late WAR MiGs have always entranced me.

btw ping, thanks for the late WAR MiG scans, that's the first in depth writing I have seen on them. They would be Awsum given we are getting Ta-152. 224 would make good "what if" dynamic campaign (the "if" being not just MiG engine but also "if" LW can mount a high altitude bombing campaign http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ).

p1ng,
I think you're on to something! How about a What If? scenario on the Western Allies continuing the war against Communism, as some endorsed. It would be especially interesting with the pending P-80.

The MiG-3 prototype was a Polikarpov design that was taken over when he fell out of favour with Stalin.

http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/ModelArticles/Massimo/projectx.html

So, according to this account it wasn't a product of the MiG design bureau originally.
