I do not own the IL-2 game. The last combat flight sim game I owned was Microsoft CFS2. It didn't have a "dogfight mode". You fly and when you encounter bad guys you shoot them. Does this game, PF, have some requirement to change modes when you meet up with bad guys? And some game features are not operable when in "DF" mode? What's the alternative to "DF" mode? "NAV" mode? How does this work? This sounds bad.

There's a few options that you have online and offline.

Offline you can play the QMB which is the Quick Mission Builder. Its very simple, you can setup a bunch of planes and go at it in under a minute. Then there is the single missions which are pre-built missions (something I love to do - I've released packs for the USAAF, RAF, and Russian airforces so far in Forgotten Battles Ace). Finally, there is the dynamic campaign mode. You select the scenario, squadron/aircraft and it auto-generates missions based on the events happening in the particular theater. The one coming in Pacific Fighters were told is even more advanced.

So there's plenty of options. If you feel like a quick dogfight you can...if you want to carry on a campaign you can, if you want a single but detailed mission you can do that too.

Online there are two major types. There are dogfights and there are co-ops. The co-ops can be generated or pre-built in the Full Mission Builder (just like the offline). Co-ops start with a full game and people pick their aircraft and fly from start to finish. Dogfight servers are open and people join and leave as they please. They can go upto 30 people although some people are testing 60 player servers.

Also there is the full mission builder, this one is a little difficult to master.
