it could be implemented correctly:
Coop mission, closed pit, no icons, no waypoints just targets and planes... and map icons restricted to one person. Have that one person go into thier conf.ini file and enlarge thier map view a bit. They dont fly. They act as the ATC and vector planes to thier targets over comms. Of course the other fliers would have to be men of honor and not look at the map themselves.. thats why a coop among people you know and whose word id trustworthy is the only way something like this would really work. It could be fun though.... dont you think?
Or even better still it would be nicer if an ATC mode could be enabled. When that mode is enabled the host doesnt have a plane.. all he gets is a full sized map and the above mentioned settings for the rest of the fliers could be set like normal... is that doable? Only the host could set it and the host would have to be the one acting as ATC. with full views.. pop in a static camera at control tower height and youve got....... Coops with a twist.

Sounds very interesting!!!
Especcially for Battle of Britain where planes would be vectored by radar operatives and such.

Sounds like it could´nt be too hard to implement into FB either, but then what do I know about software development.

This would add a great deal of immersion I believe, very good thoughts Bearcat! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Best feature request I´ve seen I think!

Bump this everyone!!! If you think it sounds cool

Perhaps the mission builder could add an "ATC-player choice", just as he has control over which planes will be flyable. Then not only host can be ATC plus you could have one for each side...

Hmm yeah I have had thoughts along these lines before also. What we need is a stand alone application along the lines of the software used by vatsim atc . I am not sure how easy it would be to do as I dont know if aircraft location data and object data is output by the new device link added with the patch still it would be a very useful tool to some squads for coops and such if developed. Maybe in the future ?

Nice idea Bearcat!
As Decent says, given the decisive role of Radar in the BoB; this should definitely be implemented in that sim; but it'd be great if FB/AEP could allow some ATC function-

Maybe a simpler solution would be to make radar and observer objects for FMB. The idea being, when an enemy squadron gets with in range of said object they would become visable on the map and when outta range or if the object is destroyed that area becomes 'Safe' for enemy traffic? Maybe even include some kinda random accuracy to signify miss information and such ?

maybe a little full on for the purpose of this sim but none the less its out there

Easy to do if:

DeviceLink was more optimised.
Devicelink gave up current map coordinates.
Devicelink gave up current map (i think it does... i can't remember).

Then you'd only have to enable devicelink, allowing your ATC friend to connect. Your friend would have an application that polls every ones computer and draws thier planes on a map. If it were me programing it (its not though cause I don't do "graphics"), I'd set a hard-coded radar range so that planes outside that range aren't shown http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Add a console command to enable devicelink and set its params and you've got something http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think this would be usefull for anything, not only COOPs. Ideo of ground observation units was up in the air for a while. If this unit (which could be destroyed) would be placed on the map just like ...say static cameras and would have range of vision based on weather conditions and tod... and would send message to friendly side only - saying enemy aircraft, possible number and location... or ground forces and location. That would be awesome. More like revolution on DF servers and especially COOPs.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Very good idea Bearcat!

What about the friendly AI planes, could they also be programmed to give out the location of enemy aircraft?

Involving AI in it would probably make it alot more complicated, perhaps for BoB.

Having it as objects placed on the map (radars with certain range, and/or airfield-towers) sounds like a very good idea. Seams doable as well, and offcourse for DF it would be awesome...
especailly if ground forces could be directed also, but thats probably abit far off...would allmost be like another game then (realtime strategy), but I think it would be VERY VERY SUPER DUPER COOL!!!
