View Full Version : New viewpoint animations?

Anyone else getting bored of having the same viewpoint animations since AC1? You know, the assassin just crouching in the same, unmoving position while the camera pans around. AC3 introduced some new ones, but then they went back to the old ones in AC4. It would be nice if they changed things up a bit, like Edward pulling out a spyglass, Arno shading his eyes, Shay lifting a finger in the air to test the wind direction etc.

I never got bothered by something so minor, lol.

But I do like AC3's the most, yes.

Just remove viewpoints altogether. It's not realistic for someone to climb to such high altitudes and not pass out.

I'm fine with the ones we already have honestly, but if there was one that was cooler than the traditional ones then count me in

Maybe, but I'm vetoing Shay's finger in the air. I felt like AC3 shortened the sync animation too much, and in Black Flag, the "high point" was often lower than the mast of the Jackdaw. I do feel the sync points are as iconic as hoods and hidden blades.

Don't forget about haystacks in a wooden cart somehow protecting your fall

Maybe they could make it like the Radio Towers in Far Cry 3,showing the important stuff you've just discovered.

Viewpoint animations don't matter to me as long as we get the synchronization. :p

that's actually a really nice idea, after so much games it gets boring to wait for the camera to make a circle all those times. and if you missclicked ^ in the old games or O in the newer... aaargh

I've loved the viewpoint syncing since AC1 and I don't mind the crouched look. I wouldn't mind a standing position though. Similar to how Altair appeared in the trailer for AC1, overlooking the crowd before the bell tolls.

But I'm fine with it regardless. One of my favorite things from AC.

Yes, the animations are getting a little old and repetitive. Your examples would add more variety and personality to the characters. I love it.

I'm glad AC:U introduced a new view-point animation. The old one didn't fit Edward's character, in my opinion.

Yes, I like change. A lot of things are getting revised in Unity so I think this would be a good one for that.

The AC3 were the best .Another thing that bugs me about the viewpoints ,is why the hell ,do they always have to be on the very top of the building .Like is there is a cross , they have to view the point exactly at the pointy end . Oh and also , to feel more organic ,they must remove these woden planks that we synch the viewpoints on . Let it be like, when close to the top ,our character grabs a pillar or something to hold on to and synchronises the viewpoint .

Focus is on the world, so the assassin should be still in some pose given the type of geometry imo. It's better to have a fairly neutral pose than stuff like looking through a spyglass, which I suspect would look kind of silly (especially after a while).

But new poses would be cool. Loved Connor's carefree pose when he syncronized those big trees!

I've never really given a thought to viewpoints, other than I liked climbing them and the views were great while getting closer to the 100%.
But I agree, the syncing animation is a bit repetitive and could use some change. In the end I don't mind what kind of animation it is as long I get my syncronization.

Not a bad idea, actually. I would like to have new viewpoint animations. The old ones were okay, but it did get boring after a while. I feel that they should mix it up, they incorporate the triangular-shaped wooden platform (whereby the character crouches) on certain buildings and use steel poles on other types of buildings like cathedrals so that the character would have to stand straight up on the summit of the structure. I also agree with the OP about having unique animations for different characters.

Don't really mind, but AC3's were just cocky as hell.

AC3 standing allows for awesome shots like this one.

Connor standing instead of sitting is like 50% of the awesomeness right there.

Its stupid. I always wanted a bird to knock him in his cocky head. Or for a gust of wind to throw him off.

Who in their right mind would stand with their chest and arms out. It looked ridiculous.

Uhm... same people who throw themselves from 100 meter heights? :p

Isn't there a "rooftop view" in Unity?Maybe the higher you are,the more activities you discover, making the viewpoints wherever you want it to be.But I got no information about it,so I'm just guessing.

Each fiting it's own character would be nice.

Umm... I wouldn't mind something new.

Viewpoints do become redundant after so long for me. It's more like a task for me to view the map. No something I do because I actually want to. So Someone mentioned it earlier but taking the wooden planks out of some of the view points and letting them hold on to a pillar or something else. Or maybe holding onto something while overlooking the horizon. Or perhaps some different camera angles.

SixKeys

About the wooden planks: what I find annoying is when I'm climbing a church spire and get all the way to the top and try to sync the view, but the assassin refuses to do it because I actually have to descend a few steps down and find the wooden plank. Isn't the whole point of viewpoints to get to the highest possible point? I agree with the person who said we should get rid of the planks and just have the assassin hold on to a pillar or church cross.

I think something looking like the last GI cover will do.

Yes, that would be perfect. I think there should be a certain height that you have to climb to (like 100 feet or something) and then you automatically get a button prompt to sync and the assassin assumes a cool pose as he surveys his surroundings. It would also mean being able to sync a viewpoint from different angles instead of having to climb to a specific spot.

That would be awesome. They could at least let us stay in that position in the game so we can get some nice screenshots.

1. holds arm out to let one of the eagles perch on it (let's pretend that the talons can't pierce through the clothes and bracers)
2. sits down to take a break (maybe even drink from a canteen if they have one)
3. pulls down hood to dry their sweat
4. And for Arno he could also take a peek at his watch

Gotta agree with Pac on AC3's viewpoint animations, they looked kinda stupid IMO. Especially with Haytham. When they stand upright on those chicken-shaped weather vanes it feels like something that would be in a parody of an AC game TBH. The crouch is fine by me, though the ever-present wooden planks are getting a tad too convenient.

Some missed opportunities with AC:IV. I don't know why, but I don't like using viewpoints in that game. The animations just doesn't fit Edward, for me. Some of Connor's laid back ones should have been there.
