This has been bugging me in all the Assassins Creed games, how enemies are highlighted like this: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3836/15157165401_4fc749190e_o.gif

I find it very immersion breaking, I managed to disable it with a shader hack but it only works with DX9: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5567/15157193941_736ba14c0b_o.gif

Looks so much better. But I can't do it for the DX11 Assassins Creeds, so I want Ubisoft to give me an option to turn it off in the menu.

EDIT: Nevermind, you can actually turn them off in Unity, see post #15 on page 2

If you want my mod for Revelations see post #10

it seems you are the only one... i think its better for the enemies to get highlighted as we know wwhich enemies we are going to attack .. but then personal opinions can differ ..

Looks so much better, and doesn't break immersion.

But I can't do it in for the DX11 Assassins Creeds, which is any newly released or upcoming Assassins Creed.
So I want Ubisoft to give me an option to turn it off in the menu. Such an easy thing for them to do, but I don't know how to get them to listen :(

Great job man, I think after all this time Ubisoft should at least offer to the players the possibility to disable it for the ones that don't need those.

Trust me it's easy to see which enemy attacks first, I've played all of the DX9 assassins creeds without the highlight with the shader hacks.
Combat looks so much better without it imo. Just an option in the menu to turn it off is all I want

You're not the only one. However, I've gotten used to it because it has been like that every game....Sadly Ubi ain't renowned for giving players variety of options in the terms of tweaking your game any further besides controls and a couple of HUD options. I don't see why is it so hard to present an option in the HUD section to turn things like this off? Player likes to tweak the game to their liking, the more options you give, the happier they will be.

Wow, that looks a whole lot better!

Hopefully the developers will listen and give us the option to disable it in Unity. I doubt it, though.

This looks cool. I hope we also get the option to turn off the blending circle in Unity.

HOW DID YOU DO THAT???

You are NOT the only one! The white outline is one of my most hated parts of Assassin's Creed. It may be "helpful" to some people but we should still have a choice

I uploaded my mod for Revelations:

https://www.mediafire.com/?23s8ln89it50v0u

Just place all files where the game .exe is located (also set Uplay to offline mode or it will crash)

As for how I did it, I used this:

http://helixmod.blogspot.se/2012/04/how-to-guide-remove-effects-from-game.html

Basically it's a tool that let's you disable any effect from any DX9 game.

Nah. Seeing an assassin in 16th century still wearing Altairs robes bothers me much more.
And since I always seek the most balanced and efficient way of dealing with obstacles I would rather complain about not having a way to tell who's my current target.

+1

It doesn't bother me that someone is highlighted but I'd prefer it to be who I am fighting at the time but I guess it is designed so if you pull a ranged weapon and fire.... it will hit the highlighted person. I always assumed it was so if you only had 1 bullet/ dart/ crossbow bolt you can flick through the enemies to your chosen person and kill.... but my combat skills are so poor I just about get through the fights without trying anything else :D

That looks really awesome. However I can see it taking a bit of time to get your head around not having the highlight there especially in the ranged attacks but if it was to get added in to turn it off. Maybe a turn of for close combat and not ranged combat option?

We need this option in AC:U for sure , as well as turning off HUD completely or some elements. Turning off button hints and promts are great to increase immersion and not make me feel like an idiot. If you are to make easy game for everyone to buy , i understand but give us who want challenge a simple option , its not like you must make another game or something. Just simple options , i hope someone reads this thread

So it turns out you can actually turn off the highlights in Unity by selecting "all hidden" in the HUD options, I had no idea.

But you can't turn off the objective indicator, so I made this mod that lets you toggle it on/off ingame like so:

http://i.imgur.com/y8YcOZJ.gif

Download link:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/0khoc0kjo2pu88z/UnityToggleMarker.rar

Make sure Uplay is in offline mode when using this, otherwise it will crash.

So now you can play the game completely HUD free with no highlights, then simply toggle the marker to see where to go, then toggle it off when you don't want to see it.
