Update for the rumor that about #ACUnity output being at a resolution of 720p (according to Sony's PSN). Apparently the "720p" does not refer to the resolution of the game itself, but to the performance of the console to play games at that resolution. Ubisoft stated that the page will be changed in the next few days to avoid misunderstandings.

Introducing Assassins Creed Unity, the next gen evolution of the blockbuster franchise powered by an all new game engine. From the Storming of the Bastille to the Execution of King Louis XVI, experience the french revolution as never before, and help the people of france carve an entirely new destiny.

What does that mean? That the console can't "perform" any better? How's that different from the "resolution of the game itself" being 720p?

Yeah, exactly -- what??

That's like saying "this game is running at 1080p but you can't see that because the console can't display more than 720p. But it IS 1080p. Oh...good for it, how does that help me?

I'm not a graphics snob by any stretch but their response has provided FURTHER confusion.

I've played a lot of games at 1080p on the ps4.

They probably mean that the game will run at a native 720p on the PS4, but the signal will upscale it to 900 or 1080p.

Sure.

Yeah, they did the same thing with Black Flag.

No they didn't, Black Flag was originally 900p on the PS4, but the update increased the resolution to 1080p, it didn't upscale it. There's a difference.

Upscaling is the process of artificially interpolating a signal to fill a screen with a higher resolution - usually resulting in a blurrier image and loss of detail. (This was the case with last gen games if your console was attached to a 1080p display).
With Black Flag the native resolution was simply increased, no upscaling was required after the update.

Well they said that they are changing it so that it doesn't lead to confusion so the game should be more than 720p.
I am guessing it will be 900p or 1080p

After 10 replies, no one got the meaning? OK, this is the impression I got right away: You need hardware displaying at 720p or better--that's it. An old analog TV with 320 lines of horizontal res will not do--obviously to us; they're just spelling it out.

Neither of the consoles can render below 720p anyway, so thats not exactly an issue.

It's not an issue with the new gen (unless someone down-converts the video signal so it works with old CRT TVs--a dumb move). It could have been an issue with Gen 7, since many people still played on old TVs through composite analog video. As a result, this sort of CYA blurb became standard, and momentum carried it forward to the new gen. In any case, no big deal. It's basically meaningless, and it's unrelated to the best rendering resolution the game can achieve.

Do not take info from Playstation or Xbox sites for games. They ALWAYS get it wrong.

Me and Shade said this about 2 weeks ago. Wait for official information.
