TrackIR version1

Cons:

very fiddly to get working properly

Dependent on computer grunt - your computer slows and the trackIR or rather the fps plays havoc.

Looks Geeky as yoiu have to waer a reflective dot between your eyes

Pros:

Awesome when it functions correctly

naturally look behind you (you move your head on a scaled down 360 degree which is really about 120 degrees when you look left and right in front of the screen. move your head to 50 degrees and you are looking out the rear right window sorta thing which is really 160 degrees in the game)
also look up and down

Never had to wear a dot on my head either http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I have 2 of the 1/2 squares on my mic boom....works perfectly. Also Track IR1 was very easy to set up. Track IR 2 is also but the software is still buggy on HT machines IMO.

The only thing better than TrackIR1 is TrackIR2 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
Upgraded from 1 to 2 and sold my old one to Extreme_One to help spread the joy.
I'd sooner loose my rudder pedals and throttle than loose my TrackIR

Had mine for a few months and was unhappy as I didn't take the time to properly set it up.

I've had it set up now for months and (like others) can't imagine flying without it now.

And yes it IS that good.

Let's make it sticky.
"TrackIR is an option you shouldn't skip like joystick and keyboard. you don't regret. go buy!"

I'm tired of answering,
"Is it worth?" "yes, yes, yes!"
"Are you happy with it?" "Of course!"

We answered your question zillion times, now go buy! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I do think we could benefit from a TrackIR sticky.

Yes, it's worth it, although there are other options of somewhat less quality if you find it too pricy.

I need to program the hat positions into my joystick because every once in a while I forget to turn TrackIR on and can't leave the mission, leaving me with no clue how to look around. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

imo trackIR is great for the likes of VOW VEF , i forgot to switch it on one mission and i was like flying with a blind fold on, it brings a whole new level to full real.

I switch mine off in open cockpit servers though for me it gets in the way ( thats noramal settings with externals and padlock etc )

but i think it was the best 85 pounds i have spent for this game..

OT anyway of not having to login everytime i wana post something ???

Be aware that TrackIR is very light sensitive. I have my computer set up in a large room with lots of windows and the surrounding light won't let me use it during the day. So like a vampire, I wait until it is dark. It works flawlessly then.

What a ******* I am. It wasn't until today that I actually realized what TrackIR is. I skipped over all the threads on it because I thought it simply gave one the ability to record in-flight activities. Very bad assumption. I am ignorant no more!

I have used TrackIR some 9 months now. I took me a month to adjust, another month to get used to.

In the beginning it feels strange, after a while you will not want to fly without!

Makes flying with cockpit on much more enjoyable. I fly only with cockpit on now.

Buy it and you will never look back (pun not intendedhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We should really have a poll again on "Who has Track IR" as the last one was a message thread only and didn't have the graph with percentages on it.

I can't be bothered starting one because some bright pillar of our community (as we have so many) will whine saying "we've had this before" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

After you use it you'll kick yourself for waiting so long. Its awesome.

It totaly takes flight sims to the next level.

S!

Can anyone post a FB ntrk of this device in use? I downloaded a track recorded by a flyer named Toad but it wasn't in a format I knew how to view and I sure could use some help over my mouse scrolling if it is worth the money.

Just so you know it is a winrar file just like winzip but has more features. You can get it herewinrar (http://www.rarlab.com/) Once th efile is extracted it is just an ntrk like normal.

I would update it to a winzip but I can't edit that thread anymore since the forum change. And when I origianly posted it as a raw ntrk file it would currupt itself and not play for people so I had to compress it even though it doesn't really compress any.

I got my TIR2 for $99 in November with a LOMAC promotion. It came with a cool black and silver "Track Hat" baseball cap which has the reflective patches sewn in on the front and back. Didn't like it at first. After a month I was ready to send it back. But I got some good tips on setting up the profiles on these UBI forums and it got better. Then the patches for LOMAC and FB came out in January and it became great. Now like so many others, I can't imagine flying without it. It is the ultimate flight sim "peripheral". Makes you WANT to fly FR because you can now easily move your view from bogey to dash/rectile to maintain SA. I used to fly in "Wonder Woman" mode but having the canopy for a frame of reference greatly enhances your ability to assess the aspect of your target to your plane.

My priority list for UBI combat flight sim peripherals:

1. At least a 128MB Graphics Card ~$80 and up
2. Track IR2 ~$100
3. HOTAS ~$75 and up
4. Rudder pedals ~100 IF you don't have a twist stick.

I don't have a HOTAS and I like my FFB Logitech twist stick (until it breaks). Currently training SHOOT 1.6 to take over some key strokes I had planned to program into a X-45.
