Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

I don't think this is going to work with the dedicated server, not from what I've seen (see netwings).

Also, I asked this in ORR and it went ignored.

If it weren't for this, I'd have hung it up a while ago. Hope it revives the coop end of the game, that kind of died post IL-2.

I picture DCG.

You run a mission, based on results, it generates the next mission.

Not a server component. (ie. you have multiple hosts, reporting and retrieving) . More like one host running his own war.

BfHexyz (whatever, callsigns are supposed to be easy to pronounce, LOL):

It's true Coops slacked off considerably with the introduction of FB. I'm not sure why. Many of the old hard-core Coop pilots are gone including some of the best Coop writers: Hangar, Metlushko, Wader, Bury, others, who gave their fine missions to the community for free, not on a pricey CD.

Some of it may have been due to Oleg's decision (at Starshoy and Luthier's request I'd be willing to bet) to make it impossible to use cached coops written by anyone else. In the old days, if I saw a good coop, I'd grab it from my cache (there was even a free utility to help me do it) to host again later (mine suck btw http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).

But Coops have been on the rebound the past few months and the ones hosted recently by Ivan and his squad are excellent. VFC = Very Fine Coops! S!

My fears are these "online Coops" will not include AI (which are an essential element of good Coops) and will be more like VEF or VOW with all human pilots. Put a score ladder in and it instantly becomes an arcade game. I hope I'm wrong and it will be a mix of human and AI pilots.

I also have a strong suspicion that these will be computer-generated missions. Having flown VEF, DGen and DCG missions, IMO computer-generated missions are really lame compared to hand-written missions by someone who knows what they are doing (again, not me).

So, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. To me, Coops are the best thing going in FB and come the closest to an organized attack or defense (that's why you need the AI) rather than the usual every-man-for-himself stuff in DFs and virtual wars. It isn't perfect, but people work together in Coops to accomplish the mission.

We'll see...

What I want to know.... Do these "coops" just run on and on until the objectives or timeout are met, like scripted servers do now?

For instance, if a mission is generated to send some Stuka to bomb a railway, escorted by some 109's, and some La and Yak to defend, will the planes take off together and complete (or fail) the objective, RTB, and then generate new mission? (True coop style) Or as with DF servers, will the planes just keep spawning and heading to the target nilly willy until the objective or clock is hit (DF server style)?

For the life of my continued interest in this sim, I hope it's in the style of coops. That could truly turn things around.

Thanks for kind words tttiger, much appriciated.
This thing is something i really look forward to... more then anything... planes, maps...etc. COOPS are the way to go as i discovered recently and i can`t thank Korolov enough for 35 COOP missions he made over past 4 weeks. All are excellent and Sinking of Marat just tops everything http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Now think of Tirpitz and Tashkent( Those didn`t sink right away tho) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Anyways, on line campaigns is something that will take our closest attention and we will deffinitely work something out... mixing up COOPs and Campaign. For us, hard core on-line junkies such a feature is revolutionary IMO.

My squad has used DCG for dynamic coops for months. Some of our maps have lasted over 100 missions. Current map Crimea is now somewhere in the 40s. Emphasis is on ground targets (protecting and destroying)

A dedicated server for coops would be nice but I dont see it happening. No coop love I guess.

Personally I would have rather seen the VEF 2 package alone, oppossed to the integrated.

Well if it wont run on the dedicated server its not that big of a deal. We just set up a game as a server machine with normal install of game. And have the server machine take an aircraft in the back or that has no real function on the mission. Set the graphics low turn off sound and access it with Pc anywhere or the like if its elswere than right next to the Host. Thats how we used to do it anyway. Worked well.
