Deutschland, Deutschland ├╝ber alles,
├┼ôber alles in der Welt,
Wenn es stets zu Schutz und Trutze
Br├╝derlich zusammenh├┬Ąlt,
Von der Maas bis an die Memel,
Von der Etsch bis an den Belt -
Deutschland, Deutschland ├╝ber alles,
├┼ôber alles in der Welt.
Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang
Sollen in der Welt behalten
Ihren alten sch├┬Ânen Klang,
Uns zu edler Tat begeistern
Unser ganzes Leben lang.
Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang.
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
F├╝r das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach la├čt uns alle streben
Br├╝derlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Sind des Gl├╝ckes Unterpfand.
Bl├╝h' im Glanze dieses Gl├╝ckes,
Bl├╝he, deutsches Vaterland.
Deutschland, Deutschland ├╝ber alles,
Und im Ungl├╝ck nun erst recht.
Nur im Ungl├╝ck kann die Liebe
Zeigen, ob sie stark und echt.
Und so soll es weiterklingen
Von Geschlechte zu Geschlecht:
Deutschland, Deutschland ├╝ber alles,
Und im Ungl├╝ck nun erst recht.

No need to run.

LuftWhiners can't read German, we don't teach much German here in USA. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

um wtf ? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

I'm Scottish... so wtf has Deutschland uber alles gotta do with me ? - and I fly almost exclusively LW...

O flower of Scotland,
When will we see,
Your like again
That fought and died for,
Your wee bit hill and glen
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.

The hills are bare now
And autumn's leaves lie thick and still,
Oe'r land that is lost now,
Which those so dearly held,
That stood against him,
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.

Those days are past now,
And in the past they must remain,
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again,
That stood against him,
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.

I always think of Jimmy Clark when I hear or read that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif In fact, I'm ditching my P-51 sig pic when I get home and Jim Clark is going up instead

Lock it, without translation.
It is the Lied der Deutschen (Song of the Germans), but in an incorrect order,
The third verse of it is our National anthem.

Here is a translation, if you need it.

He casts his eyes to heaven's blue,
From where past heroes hold the view,
And swears pugnaciously the oath,
You Rhine and I stay German, both.

Ahhh, such a great song, the third verse that starts with "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" is used today as the National Anthem. Heres the tranlation for all those who dont know German

Germany, Germany above all,
above anything in the world,
if it always holds together brotherly
for protection and defense.
From the Meuse to the Neman,
from the Adige to the Belt,
Germany, Germany above all,
above anything in the world.
German women, German loyalty,
German wine and German songs
shall continue to be held in high
esteem all over the world,
and inspire us to noble deeds
all our lives.
German women, german faithfulness,
german wine and german songs!
Unity and justice and freedom
for the German fatherland;
This let us all pursue,
brotherly with heart and hand.
Unity and justice and freedom
are the pledge of happiness.
Flourish in this blessing's glory,
flourish, German fatherland.
Germany, Germany above all,
and during disaster more than ever,
only in disaster can love show
whether it's strong and true;
And so shall the song continue
from generation to generation
Germany, Germany above all,
and during disaster more than ever.

Listen to it here! http://ingeb.org/Lieder/deutschl.html

Hmm. I find this ironic, too, as I'm from England.

Does that mean I don't have blind patriotism affecting my view of the game? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Me and my buddies call Schumacher "the Shumie-bot". http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif He's something else, alright

It's the same old thing though: would Clark be better than Schumacher today? Could Shumie be as good if he were racing against Brabham, Gurney, Hill, and Clark? Who can say? Was Clark better than Ascari? Nuvolari? Fangio? No telling. All these names belong to such a high level of skill and talent, there's no way to know who is best...

There's a website called "Jim Clark, tribute to a Champion" that is quite good, if it's still up. URL slips my mind...I want to say it's run by a New Zealander...bramwell something? Dunno.
