Greetings all.
Question to VFC*HOST regulars and guests /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
Who`s up for 1941 Summer Smolensk area map? The usual setup, lots of ground + DF.
The reason i am asking you all... i don`t fly as much as i use to, but server runs at least 12 hours per day(mostly overnight). It takes a few hours to make a good map and test it...so basicaly, if i`ll host Beginning of Barbarossa, will people join and fly with limited 1941 plane-set? Should i make an effort, or early war planes are not really popular.
Also, i would like to know your opinion on the plane set. What should it be... Eastern Front, August 1941?

Limited plane-set servers are great! On most of the 41-45 servers, people only fly the late '44-45 aircraft. In my experience, you actually get more variety on servers that are limited to a particular year or particular battle.

I, for one, will be there.

I'm a bit drunk at the moment but I gotta agree that limited years are the best fun. 41 has the Emil which is cool & teh I16 i153 etc .

OK . too much beer but i am greatful for our translation efforts etc. so if ai sober up I'll fly as a target .

Dear me I think i've ruined me virtual reputation. ...

anyway think of this as a bump (& a S!)

Cheers Mate!

Early war servers are a great idea.

MiG3, LaGG3, Yak 7, Yak 1, I16, I153, TB3, Il2 (1 series)

versus

109E4/E7, 109F2/F4, Ju87 B

It's about the same number of choices, except all the German fighters are 109 variants. All the soviet planes are competitive, but in different areas, and the German planes are generally good competition.

F4 is a great plane in the '41 set. Throw some Hurris in there, too./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Don't forget the He-111.
And give blue some captured planes like P-11 (and maybe add Brewsters too) so their players have more variety. Otherwise there will always be more players on the red side than on the blue.

I am half way done with the map. Not sure if Smolensk is a good base for it. Looks like a long flight, but i`ll test it out. At least bombers will have a chance.
No, there will be only German and Russian planes present. No lend lease yet /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I am planing to make Stalingrad map in the future, that`s where all lend-lease for 1942 and earlier will be present, agreed? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Stalingrad can be a bit hard on the lower end systems...

Sounds great! Early war is challenging for vvs. I would'nt mind flying the I-153 or I-16. Post patch they are fun. I would think bf-109E-7 bf-109f-2 f-4, Russians would have mostly I-16s and I-153s. They did'nt have too many Lagg 3s or Yak 1s. They had a few more Mig 3s though.

For the Axis one could also use Rumanian P.11c's and Hurricane I's. Plus Hungarian Heja's (use the B.239, it's pretty damn close.) Makes for a bit more variety than the steady diet of 109's...
Cheers!

The steady diet of 109s in the campaign can be a bit tough for me sometimes. You get used to what they can & can't do, then one day you find yourself fighting a 109G when you're used to Fs, and you have to get used to a bigger speed disadvantage. Or suddenly you find yourself up against some less common planes like the IAR, and you have to get over your 109 countering strategy.

The IARs are damn good early on in the game too - they chew up the LaGGs when the 109E & F fail, and they can out run them too! In early 41 you need a MiG3 to catch the IAR.

The tables turn with the Yak1B though, and they keep turning all the way through the campaign too. I barely escaped my first 109G vs Yak1B fight, and I found the Yak useless against the first Ju87Ds I ran into - the armour around the pilot & engine protects it well, and the dual MG81Z is not something you want to get in the way of. Then with the P39, I discover I can shoot down bombers again with ease, but I can no longer count on winning turn fights with 109s, and on it goes through the game.

Looks like 1941 map is a little bit delayed hehe. Cant find a good map for it. I mean not fps consumptive. Not everyone has top of the like rig and i am considering it. For now i switched planes on my regular summer Kuban map (Lake area). There are planes from 1941 till mid 1943, Axis vs Allies (holds 15) Ground + DF. Settings: FR with limited icons and limited padlock. Hope everyone will enjoy it.

your server has the best settings ivan, and the early planes are great. I like when there is limited number of plane available. ost ly for no icon servers because it makes id'n planes easier, But it also makes for a better fight when there is only a few (somewhat equal) choices for both sides.

Thanks Ivan.

Plane sets that are matched by year help add some reality to df servers. Being buzzed by a Me-262 or K4 while flying an La5 is pointless, but encountering a 190A-4 or 109F4 can be great fun.
