I agree, from a visual standpoint the game certainly delivers, the lighting in the church was fantastic. I liked the assassination flashback, reminded me of Infamous SS, but I'm going to miss the white room speeches.

The whole interview was 10 to 15min long. idk about gameplay...

Arno was outside the church in the graveyard spying someone. I think he was listenning the conversation between two guys, if that's the case the anoying "stay in the circle or be desynchronized" its gone ;)

Wasn't much gameplay (about 5 mins of it - they were cuts from the whole demo)
Ubisoft will probably release the whole demo soon, like they did with Rogue.

Yeah it was more like AC 1 evesdropping where you found a place to sit / hide and listened :)

Oh thank GOD! I hated that stupid evesdropping circle garbage! I think it could maybe be more user interactive if it is like AC1, but it's still better than that stupid circle.

-The demo starts off on a rooftop, or at least that's one of the first cutscenes that was shown. “If you can’t find a weakness to exploit, make one,” offered Arno’s companion. He was set to assassinate a criminal named Sivert.

-The game isn't just all rooftops, there are some nice locations that were shown in the demo, including quite a large garden sort of entrance.

-Arno eventually enters the building, and it seems that instead of going straight for the target, he goes around and explores first, inside and outside near the crowd. When the target finished his conversation with his guards, they turn around and Arno performs an air assassination. Then he uses the hidden blade to stab one guard in the back, the guard next to him looks at Arno confused and not able to react and Arno casually strikes him in the neck.

-Arno then goes to the target, strikes him in the neck, which triggers the Animus white room and shows quick flashbacks of past events of the target you just killed.

-Before each co-op mission, you are given an option to customize your character. Each outfit, armour and weapon is given a rating out of four categories including Deadly, Unseen, Agile and Resilient. There is around 200 outfits, some include extras, like a hood that enhances your eagle sense range when wearing it.

Oh my god, Notre Dame looks absolutely incredible! I can't wait to climb all over that thing in Broketober! They really got it to look and feel just like it does in real life and I see no sign of a downgrade either, as far as I am concerned it's an upgrade!

I know right? It finally gives me that epic feiling of height and scale that I have not really felt sinc AC2 and I love every second of it! :D

I'll even go as far as to say it looks (or atleast feels) taller than it does in real life (yeah I said it).

Hopefully they have some good ambient music to help capture the epic feels.

Amazing.. Everything looks crisp and clean like it was at E3. Only thing I can see different is maybe Arno's robes are a bit shorter. Lighting and animations are 10/10. The new Assassinations where we get the flashbacks of what the targets have done and then watch their life be taken is pretty awesome.

Differences from E3: Seems the bottom of his robes aren't as long now? And there is now a circle on the ground which shows you are blending :)

Perfect AC day today, I wasn't convinced about Rogue, but it looks like ACIV 2.0 - and who doesn't want to have ACIV 2.0? - with some extras and I really liked the two gameplay videos + AC Unity's pure awesomeness.

I'm AC1 giddy all over again. Notre Dame looks incredible, and that city view from atop was astounding. Gameplay looks tight too, very very excited.

About the graphics, does anyone know what platform this was on? I hope this was on PS4; it looks awesome. Even if it isn't, I've never had an issue with the graphics in the past ACs, so I won't now.

AC Unity looks incredible! I can't wait to climb the Notre Dame for the first time!! That view is glorious!!

Looks great! Not sure how I feel about that ring when blending, but it's not a big deal. I love the facial animations.

Goddammit!! Everything else looks so great and then there's that ****ing circle to indicate blending! Why? Why?? Blending looked so perfect in the E3 demo! Finally, something that's not at all distracting, just a feint glimmer around Arno. And now it's this huge-*** expanding circle that looks gamey as hell. Goddammit. I know this may seem like a small gripe, but I'm genuinely disappointed. I was so excited about the E3 blending and this? This is worse than the monochrome spiderweb. :mad: Everything else looks so beautiful and realistic and immersive and this thing just ruins it.

The assassination mission looked great, and that confessional kill as it was described is a really cool touch. Missions look very open ended with opportunities and systemic gameplay loops both present.

Can't wait to see for myself in October. I'm really looking forward to this now.

This looks to be like the best Assassins Creed game yet in terms of level design. I'm sold on the whole adaptive mission mechanic. it gives an outline on what your options are (though I would like to gain this information by investigating beforehand) and you can about a mission as you please. Multiple entrances that require skills to be able to use or other tasks that the game dictates like pickpocketing the key to another entrance from that guy.

in this area alone, I could see A LOT of routes, well placed hiding spots and guards. I'm also interested about the knock out that popped in for the B button when inside the Haystcack.

I also share Sixkey's disdain for the circle underneath Arno when blending. Just gotta screw something up, I guess.

We've had a fistfight with the Pope in the Vatican, and we've chased a Cardinal through the Basilica di San Pietro and killed him on the rooftops.

I fully expect in the next game to punch God Himself in the kidneys.

The demo looks great. It reminds me a lot of Dishonored (which is my favourite game). It was good to see how assassinations will play out without all the skipping about. Also, is that a dedicated knock out button I see? It's weird how the enemies are still rolling on the floor when Arno choked them out. That's always been an issue in AC. Connor or Edward would break someone's neck or knock them unconscious & they'd be moving on the floor. Another issue I have is with the HUD. It seems like the icons for the buttons are worded too long. If anything, they should reduce the size of the text. And what's with Arno's name above the health bar? Whatever; I'm sure that's just temporary.
Apart from those small issues it looks perfect. Glad to see the smoke bombs work as they should. It's ironic really because in one of the Rogue demos they boast about using smoke bombs as a tactic. It just looks stupid in comparison. Another interesting thing to note is that we get rewards for completing main missions & they have a difficulty scale.
I'm so glad I purchased a PS4. Where would I be without it???

I hope Ubi upload that demo to their channel. I want to hear the dialog.

That HUD is so cluttered and unsightly. Is it so hard to design a sleek, minimal and unobtrusive one?

AC3's was a step in the right direction - minimal and refined. But they reversed all of that with AC4 and vomited a crapton of needless display elements on the screen, and seem to be continuing the trend with Unity.

Are the 'kill' markers above the targets' heads really necessary? I mean, the glowing aura clearly isn't an indication of anything.

Well I think there is a text notification that pops up on the screen regardless of any changes to HUD settings, but there are ways to deduce it I'm sure.

If an area is heavily guarded, or quite empty with very few NPC's barring the guards for example.

there was never a monochrome spider-web.

Spider-web was AC3, no monochrome

AC4 had no spider-web but it was monochrome

Yeah that circle is reaaly distracting and obtrusive. If it's needed for 'detection' purposes then please provide us with the option to remove it in the options menu. It's kinda ugly.

Not only the circle, every element of the bloody HUD is immersion-breaking, it's almost as they pulled out a contest to make the worse HUD in the whole franchise.

AC1 & AC3 are the best so far.

Yeah, the circle is kind of ugly and immersion breaking, especially since everything in the environment else melds so well with Paris. Stalking our target in the crowd doesn't won't feel as awesome, if there's a big blue circle telling us we're hidden.

To be honest what's the need for the game telling us were among the crowd anyway? I'm pretty capable of observing I'm standing next to or walking through a bunch of people...

I really hope they've divided the SSI section of the HUD so that we can choose what element we can keep or not. Because I really like to have a floating indicator for say Observation Points or Shops but God I hate this ugly 'Assassinate' dot on every target.

And yeah the circle needs to go. Could we MP this to Shade ?

I just realized...there were no optional objectives that were required for full sync, but there were optional ways of completing the assassination that can be unlocked through exploration like the confession assassination in the demo.

Please let this be the way it's handled in the final game.

I don't like the way the Optionnal Ways were presented, it kills the exploration to point you out what you can do. I hope we can remove them, cause if my memory doesn't fail me it was impossible to do so in Black Flag.

Well the thing is, I don't think there were any optional objectives that were required for full sync and they certainly weren't presented in the tradition sense derived from ACB.

And I see what you mean, but through the exploration you'd find out what to do anyway which is how you unlock the optional objective in the first place. I don't mind a text notification keeping me right incase I missed something.

I actually like the HUD in general. If they just put the objective on a timer and let me view it in the pause screen, and removed the "kill" or "tail" or whatever markers, it would be great.

I agree with what people have been saying about the unsightly circle while blending, the effect to indicate that your hidden should be as subtle as possible, so as not to break the immersion. And hopefully there's the option to completely remove all HUD items from the screen this time.

Is anyone else slightly concerned with the smoothness of the parkour?, there's alot of moments in this demo where it's very clunky and doesn't transition very well from one animation to the next.

Looks amazing. I don't mind the HUD though, apart from the nametag on the healthbar. Seems really unnecessary.

Goddammit!! Everything else looks so great and then there's that ****ing circle to indicate blending! Why? Why?? Blending looked so perfect in the E3 demo! Finally, something that's not at all distracting, just a feint glimmer around Arno. And now it's this huge-*** expanding circle that looks gamey as hell. Goddammit. I know this may seem like a small gripe, but I'm genuinely disappointed. I was so excited about the E3 blending and this? This is worse than the monochrome spiderweb. :mad: Everything else looks so beautiful and realistic and immersive and this thing just ruins it.

Did they actually say the circle was a blended indicator? It might just tell you how close an enemy in the crowd can come before they spot you. That's what I assumed when I first saw it, so I didn't really mind it. If it serves the exact same purpose as the glimmer, then it should be taken out. Something of note though, in the first 2 HUDless demos we got, we saw the glimmer but not the circle. In the demo with the HUD on, we actually see it. So we'll probably be able to turn it off.

I dont see a problem. Possibly they aren't done mo capping Arno's full animations yet so they seem kind of choppy. It will be fixed.

They're probably going to release it officially within the week. It's not like it showed anything they've been keeping a secret, just a cool open-ended assassination mission. And I would love to get a clean version without loudmouth commentators. Ah finally the full demo, I feel like we are slowly getting it piece by piece and now all that remains is the audio.

I am quite impressed with Notre Dame as I have said before, it's super detailed an looks just like it does in real life (even down to the llittle water holes ontop of the buttressess), the interior is also fantastic with the use of god rays and such (I am also quite amazed they included the original Hotel Dieu in the Paris map as that is a relatively forgotten, lost building in Paris).

The mission also seems decently layed out and is VERY open which is great.I doubt it will be in the final game and was probably made for the demo like usual, but if they follow this philosphy with the rest of the assassinations in the game I will be a very impressed kitty.

I love how open the missions are. The game is amazing but there are a few things that look off:

1) The circle blending thing is a bit annoying.
2) Face's and NPC's aren't very next-gen at all (It is hard to tell from a video. The world and atmosphere is definitely next-gen though)
3) When Arno parkours up it looks strange - he looks like a cat who is just crawling up (like spiderman!)

Overall I am incredibly impressed though. I love how there is more than one animation for hidden assassinations. Graphics are awesome. The scope of Paris is amazing and I love the stealth.

The draw distance hasn't been improved either unfortunatly, luckily it's a bit harder to notice during sunny weather in this game but it's still there.

Also these Frenchmen are extremely rude, almost all of them are wearing huge hats inside a church while a priest is talking, bunch of jerks and OH YES! Cats are back!

That's definitely not the in-game subtitles. I think they were just made like this for the demo video. the real subtitles will most likely look like the whole UI and have the same font.

I am very confident we will be able to diasable certain HUD elements, which I find very intriguing to be honest.
I also believe the HUD is too cluttered. IMO the Button-layout is not a must, the map should be smaller or not there at all, I don't mind that, my health bar is also something I do not need to see unless I'm in combat.
I hope we can modify most of this and enable/disable certain HUD elements.

Anyway, I love their appraoch of freedom in missions. I think what those developers are doing now (Sniper Elite 3, Metal Gear Solid V, Assassins Creed Unity) is the future. This is the way games are supposed to be as an interactive medium. We need games that give the player the choice to be creative instead of following linear paths and pre-defined routes.

I play a non-linear games 10 times more often than a linear one, no matter how good the story of the linear one is.
And that is I think a real evolution for the entire industry. More and more games feature choice of approach and that is the way it should be.
This generation will be awesome guys, because this time it's all about gameplay. Screw graphics, I just want to play.

Watched it again, this time in HQ (gamersyde version), and the visuals are outstanding. Can't help but pause and marvel at the lighting and intricately detailed interior of Notre Dame. Payed closer attention to music and I can't say I'm impressed, sounded generic and crap like the rest of the material I've heard. Soundtrack seems to be the one area in which Rogue has the potential to pip Unity.

I thought I'd be ok with it but it really bugged me during that demo. I think it was a foolish decision not to go for French accents. I find it immersion breaking and it's definitely diminished the cultural aspect of AC which I really love. It takes away the exotic flavour of the game!

Some people have said French accents wouldn't sound good. I don't know what they're talking about. There's nothing wrong with the French accent, I think it sounds quite cool.

So is every game from now on going to have british accents?

Yeah, I know...AC I's people usually pronounced it as "Altayeeeer" which was wrong--Mark Bonnar pronounces it with a more subtle "e" sound, which is how it's supposed to be pronounced. "Altayr"

It's actually more realistic that a French can't properly pronounce an Arabic name from a person who lived centuries ago and he only read about or at least heard about pronounced by other people who never met Altair and don't know the proper pronunciation either, lack of audio and video recording machines in those days and no internet made it difficult.

But according to M this is actually closer to how it should be pronounced.

I thought I'd be ok with it but it really bugged me during that demo. I think it was a foolish decision not to go for French accents. I find it immersion breaking and it's definitely diminished the cultural aspect of AC which I really love. It takes away the exotic flavour of the game!

Some people have said French accents wouldn't sound good. I don't know what they're talking about. There's nothing wrong with the French accent, I think it sounds quite cool.

So is every game from now on going to have british accents?

Have you listened to Aveline's accent friend?

I understand about the immersion and accents, but I prefer this if it means to understand what they're saying.....

Loved it :D!

There's a bit of Hitman in there, bringing a puzzle element to the assassinations, which is cool. I'm also 100% convinced that there will be several open asssassinations in the game as these ideas obv weren't constructed for just one mission. It seems like the underground will play a fairly big role in the game, bigger than I first thought. I'm a sucker for secret passages, so that's very cool.

The scale and seamless interiors are still very cool. However the interior of the building where Arno stole the key reminded me a lot of the E3 demo. This is a bit worrying as those are the only two city building interiors shown.

Parkour looks great even though there were a couple of buggy bits (biggest one being how Arno jumps around a pillar at the top of Notre Dame. Not sure what's going on there). The crowd also seems quite buggy at this point, twitching and so on. Hope they can squash these before release.

Overall the important stuff is there and I really like the direction they seem to have taken!

You know, the British accents were actually growing on me (I was completely against the idea to begin with). But regional British accents? I get that it's a way to differentiate classes, but the guys with a cockney twang sounded horribly out of place.

I love the open-ended approach games are taking as much as the next guy, but I'm a sucker for linear action blockbusters like Uncharted and TR 2013. There's room for all types of games.

Yeah, me not. But you are right. If the game is mainly famous for it's story and is based on it's story then it's okay for some people. Not everybody likes the same.

I personally would never really play them. I tried TR at a friends place, liked it quite a lot. But still, those are games I don't buy - I borrow them. I only play them 1 time in 5 years anyway, because there is no room for an alternative way or approach, it's all one story and one path. Been there, done that. For me, it's just an interactive movie. And that is not why I'm playing games.

On the other hand, there are people who like that, who put story above replayability (for me both has to be quite good, but replayability is a little bit more important).And they have the right to do that.

All I am saying is that I always had the feeling games have a hell of a lot more potential. Games are a medium which is pretty young - and pretty different from any other type of medium we know at that. There are so many things to do with games. And I think one part of that is giving the player freedom, freedom he/she does not have in books or movies. It's not always about graphics, about technology. It's also about content, variety, interactivity, choice, freedom. And I think by opening games up they are now taking the first steps in a new evolution that will make games even more enjoyable and replayable.

How often did I play a game in the past and got bored after the 3rd playthrough not picking it up again even after 1 or 2 years. Why? Because I knew the story, knew most of the paths, there was nothing new for me. Only repetition. And I'm allergic to repetition.

Now is the chance to give players the opportunity to create a NEW and FRESH experience almost EVERY time they play for a LONG time (not forever, but for far longer than in previous years). Long time motivation, variety although you are playing the same game a 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th time.

And that is what I am so excited for this generation of consoles.

I don't blame you at all to be honest. I actually made a thread about it a couple of years ago but I can't find it anymore in my recent threads folder. I also made a thread about the naming inaccuracies of Altair and his children, you may remember that one.

Now, I have two concerns regarding the wheel. The first being that we cannot cycle between fists, the hidden blade(s), and your main weapon. I also noticed that Arno could only use the hidden blades whenever the assassination button would appear. All other times, we could just draw our weapon. I do hope we can still use the hidden blades in combat. Later in the demo, Arno takes out a guy by choking him out with assassination button, but there was no change in weapons. Is this automated now? I hope we don't have that freedom taken away

My other concern is that the health potions seem to be back. I did like the regenerative health because it made the game slightly more difficult. That being said, I also like the health potions as long as they are much more scarce this time around.

I also have a third concern regarding Arno's interactions with the NPCs. Before AC4, we could still assassinate one or two civilians which came in handy for any distractions. We could shoot civilians, but it wasn't the same. I would like this freedom to return.

Oh god, I hope we can't use the hidden blade in combat. The only good usage of that was in AC1. I personally do not think that hidden blades should be used in combat at all.

And killing innocents is against the Creed. You couldn't kill civilians in AC3 either.

I played Liberation without subtitles and understood Aveline perfectly well.

But if they were worried about players not being able to understand the dialogue then they could have just gone for voice actors with really light French accents.

TBH, I understood 90% of what she says in some scenes, but others it was 50/50 but I guess it's all a matter of perspective as I see what Ubi went with this decision.

came to post something very similar to this. Some very jarring bugs spoilt it, obviously its very much work in progress but i really hope they manage to resolve the immersion breaking ones.

The most noticable being when near large crowds, the NPCs clothing seems to randomly change quite a lot.

Apart from those small gripes im loving the ideas of the Assassination missions, although i really do wish they wouldn't have a large red dot on screen saying "Assaassinate" at the very start, i shouldn't need the game to tell me who to kill straight away, thats what the investigations are suppoed to be for, surely?

I sound like i'm whinging quite a bit but i'm ultra hyped for this game :)

I like the idea of using the hidden blade in combs but it should be harder to time counters and stuff like it was in 1 and 2. 2 was easier than 1 but still significantly harder than Brotherhood and beyond where it was super easy.

I like the idea of going up against people wielding swords and things with only this small wrist mounted blade -- it's like Batman going up against people with automatic weapons using only his fists, batarangs, and stuff like that.

Also.. I do hope that's a hood toggle!

Us fanboys are always the whiniest ;)! Yeah the crowds were obv a major challenge and it's not perfect yet. But there's still hope!

The HUD is just as in BlackFlag kind of ridiculous. I completely agree with you that the "Assassinate" icon is very silly as that is what we are supposed to find out. Now that being said as long as it can be disabled I'm perfectly fine with it. It's great that less experienced gamers can get extra help as that allows for a more complex mission design.

The reason I won't give this game a 10/10 and why it won't be my favorite AC game is because of the accents. I think it's the worst thing they can do. Some might say that they would rather have the voice actors speaking in their native accents, well that doesn't matter since the voice actor for arno doesn't have a native British accent! It's not very good either. I can tell it's a fake accent straight away.

I think the best trailer is the rob zombie trailer, mainly because of the voice actors chilling performance! He used a french accent and it was perfect! I hate the Cockney accent as well which ubisoft over uses!!!!! You can tell me to use the dub but what if their isn't one and what if the performance isn't as good. And doesn't sound as good.

One thing I pray is that they don't use the British accent forever now!!!! It will ruin AC for me. I can't imagine a game set in ancient Egypt or China or India with a British accent!!!! It makes me cringe just thinking about it!

Please don't do the British accents again after this... unless it's in England which I am sure the next one is.

When Arno steals the keys, you can see a notification pop up "confessional kill unlocked". At the beginning it also showed that the location has one "unique kill". It seems that certain missions have one or two unique kills that are more interesting than your standard kill. If you perform certain side missions (like stealing the key), you can unlock these unique kills. If you just want to do it the old-fashioned way and kill the guy with an air assassination, you can, but you will miss out on a unique cut scene like the one inside the confessional. At least that's how I understand it.

I think you could have killed him sooner, but then you would have had to fight against a lot of guards.

Think it's similar to Hitman. There are a few special kills that you can do if you are able to do the necessary preperations. But you can also choose to kill the target in a "normal" way.

Oh no, if the unique kills are in every mission then I will do all of them that way because I don't want to miss out.

Same dilemma as the full sync objectives, but this is a purely personal problem this time. They should make them harder to find.

In Hitman they are a reward for meticulous analyzation, but here they are pointed out for us a bit too much. :/

It seems like the detection wheel from E3 has changed a bit. But I can't quite put my finger on it. If you look closely at the gamescom footage, it's still there, but the little yellow icons aren't centered in the wheel. It's certainly different from E3. But I can't tell what exactly.

There will definitely be glitches in a game this huge. As long as they aren't gamebreaking or utterly frustrating, I can deal with them. Cosmetic stuff like the crowd not being 100% realistic at all times I can overlook.

It really breaks the immersion for me. I can't help but notice the crowds miraculously changing, NPC's acting strangely and the parkour being a bit glitchy. Like I said I think the game looks fantastic, I just really hope they minimise these glitches to make them less noticeable.

I didn't notice any weird morphing like others have. Either I'm unobservant or I just pay attention to different things. I just noticed some standard fare like NPCs walking into each other looking dumb, but when the crowds are this huge I expect stuff like that.

I would expect glitches but not on the scale of the NPC's morphing into others and constantly changing. Watch the E3 single player demo and at the begginning you see the crowd morphing. Secondly on this gamescom demo at the begginning when you first get down into the crowd they do it. Once you see it you will never unsee it lol really hope they fix it
