Well first off, I would like to say thanks to all the nice comments about the servers. I am glad you all are enjoying them. I hope they can only get better with time.

I would also like to say, I do not want this thread to turn into a settings debate. I think most are very happy with the current settings on the server, and there are some tradeoffs that everyone is making.

Now onto the matter at hand. The current missions on teh TOH server were pretty much thrown together. I did not have much time to test them and make sure they function as they should. So for those of you taht have been playing on the servers daily, any input on the missions will be greatly appreciated. Some are saying the maps are rotating too fast and such. What i need to know is this because the objectives are too easy? Or is it because one side is playin the mission and the other is not? Typically I try to make sure i play on teh servers for 2/3 days after i upload new maps, but with work going boom all the sudden, i havent touched my flight stick much in the last week. So as much input as i can get the better. I do have forums setup for the servers. I know that you are all thinkin, Not another forum i need to register too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Well i think it would be best if we kept the discussion on the Servers mission in those forums so that Ivan, tully and crew dont have more threads to shuffle through and moderate. Here is a link to the servers forums:

http://www.vfs-22.net/phpbb2/

Now i konw these are not the fastest forums on the web, but what do you expect for free hosting http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. So please kindly direct all comments to those forums. It will also save me from sifting through UBIs forums when the thread starts dropping .

Next order of business. As i stated above, work took off for me last week. I will not have much time in the next month or so to make missoins. It will be hard enough for me to make sure the servesr stay online. Some have expressed that they would like to helpin making missions for the servers, but do not know how to do the scripting part or what i expect in a map/mission. So here is some info for you folks. I put together a zip file that has a Text doc with some instructions and some docs on objects in the game. There is also a default.properties file that i have made for use with missions as well. So if you are interested in making some missions for the servers, please, kindly download this pack and read through the info. If you have any further questions, please contact me. All my contact info is in the text file. Download this zip file here

http://www.vfs-22.net/warclouds_mission_pack.zip

Again, I jsut want to thank you all for all the kind words you have about the servers. I just hope we can all work together to keep the servers an enjoybable place for us all to get together can have some fun.

Haven't any time right now but are requrements for inclusion on the server listed in the package? If so I'll have a go at putting a couple of maps together...

So far I haven't even been able to play on TOH...always full http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

All the info you need for making missions for the servers is in the Text file. Least i hope so http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. If i missed something, please bring it to my attention. I had to write this between diaper changes, feedings, crying sessions, and managing to find myself some dinner tonight. So i could have missed a few things.

plane/pilot count could be raised and more g targets, but it probably varies from map to map. i agree map cycles a little fast, enough for 1-2 sorties. other than that the servers are perfect.

In my admittedly few visits, most if not all map rotations have been target achieved rather than map timeout. People are definitely flying the missions (for the most part). Ground pounding is too much fun to not fly the objectives http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I could use more specifics. How often is the map rotating? 30, 60, 90 minutes?

When you say need more ground objects, can you give me and idea on which maps?

When you fly 1/2 sorties, are they short or is the sortie 30 minutes?

I am not trying to be demanding here, but this is the kind of info i need so i can adjust the missions as needed. Thanks for they input guys.

I find that most missions TOH rotate to often due to few pilots, it takes less than 30 minutes for a map. Barely enough time for one FW sortie. One map is too easy for blue team; Eastern front map where blue target is trains and cars.

An example:

Online7islands map, red attacking. Arm & take off with P-38, fly up the east side of the map to the A1 targets, make 3-4 GA passes, clear 6 for someone and scoot home. Two B&Z passes at someone harassing the red base then land & re-arm.

Take-off, back to target, 3-4 GA passes and head home for more munitions. Find a furball just north of home base, spend about 5-10 minutes trying it pick a target off the top with B&Z and clearing teammate sixes, then the map rotates.

The sorties aren't short, but not super long either. Probably rotating between the 25-40 minutes mark for most maps, depending a bit on maps and on who's in the server at the time.

OK.. so the ETO Train busting mission is too easy. I will see if i can add some more targets to that one to increase the difficutly.

Do you think the number of pilots needs to be increased across the board? Currently its 50/30. Should we goto 60/40 or back to 70/50?

60/40 should be fine and for the trains, just try to "harden" some of the targets or at least make the triggers tougher.
Also, maybe some AA on a traincar or two? or maybe adjacent to the targets.

That should be all you need. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

If one team has some experienced bomber/jabo pilots I've seen a mission end within 10-15 minutes, I think increasing the number of ground targets will help, but then again I'm not the first ne to say this....thx for the fun server

Hi, your servers are pretty good but they have BIG problems with causing long stutters or pauses which really increase lag and make gameplay a bit of a chore. You might try reducing the amount of objects loaded into the game, ground units etc.. Also remove any of the autoflak units you may have set up, those cause lag like nothing else.

Another thing (may just be me personally) is the 109K-4 you've got enabled. It's really detracting from the gameplay for the american side, since it doesnt matter how high or how fast you're going, the 109K4 can catch you in a zoom climb even if you bounced them from 5000 meters above. They can climb with you through your zoom climb and then turn with you once you stall out at the top of it. IMO you should remove it from most of the maps and only leave it in one, then people will appreciate it more when they can fly it instead of abusing it to increase point count.

Just MHO.

Some maps are almost impossible to win by ground targets. Like when blue attacks ships on the coast of France, or when the Japanese attack ships with he 111's. Every time I have played these, the maps end from pilot kills before being able to get all targets. More pilots would really give us a chance.

Wow. That's the most honest reason I've heard for banning an Axis plane. We don't want to detract from the gameplay for the Americans because they are so special. First the LA7 and Yak3, then the Hayate goes, now the K4. Why don't we just put American uber planes with IL-2 and ban the gunner position. We don't want to detract from the gameplay for those precious boys.

First off.....you can to hell with that attitude guy,...str8 up. Nobody's wantin uber U.S. planes, just less sucky ones. Most people in the know don't say Us planes should completely dominate, and I myself think La's were IRL badass, but you can't make me believe a La7 with bombs can outturn and outrun a clean p51 in real frickin life.

ANYWAY..the main reason I wanted to post was to say after tryin out the TOH server today as a normally no cockpit/externals on guy, I was impressed with how intense and....um,Ok I'll say it, immersive the battles were. Mega-fun, in other words. But I gotta tell ya, I think your pilot count goal is a little low; in all three games pilots ran out before objectives could be met, which kinda defeats the purpose of having ground targets.

Maybe adding 20 or so pilots for each count would give more time; going back to your old "externals" server experience, I think more people would rather the time run out than the intense battles kill all the pilots each map. Just a humble suggestion, thanks for the server.

I'm sorry Hayatekid, if you cannot keep up with american planes online in anything other than a Yak-3, 109K-4 or La-7. But the fact is they don't fly with any semblance to reality. The K-4 is the only one that seems to fly relatively accurately, but it should not be showing up on a 1944 map by the dozens.

If you truely feel everyone wants uber american planes I can only feel sorry for you. We just want a fun gameplay experience, which is TOTALLY attainable without resorting to titanium delta-wood aircraft, planes that can climb nearly vertical indefinately and craft that can hit you with 20 and 30mm cannons from 1km away http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've had plenty of great games without the "uber planes" (There is only a few of them in the game you know) playing as both an allied AND axis pilot.

Ok people, listen up.

I believe SPaRX asked for some assistence in missions building and not for rather silly discussion about uber planes. FR switch equalizes all planes to some point, so get with the program. And instead of beating this horse into submission, help the brother out. He`s doing something good for everyone.

Are we cool?

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

I have increased the Plane/Pilot count on the TOH server. How is this working out?

I will try and get some time this week to tweak the Train Depot map.

Anyone interested in making maps/missions for the servers?

Sparx, thanks for the missions. I've been playing them almost exclusively the last few days. And I totally hear ya on the diapers - I just whacked some tanks in a P-38 when my 9 month old woke up - DISCONNECT !

They are well balanced and interesting.

My question (not a whine) is that when you look at WarClouds in HL, it appears that Icons are on but when you get in, there aren't any. Personally, I like modified icons, but if you are gonna go No Icons, is there a way to have truth in advertising.

Thanks again for you hard work.

Nick, Icons are on, its just they are modified any very short.

Sparx, love the server, and great to here you upped the pilot count. I just got done playing there, and while the pilot count diwndled extremely fast, I can't imagine what it was like before that.

VFS-22_SPaRX

I think i will leave the plane/pilot count at 60/40. What people need to do is make sure they try their hardest to keep their pilot alive. Bail out when you get shot up and do not think you can make it anymore. Try and dead stick to friendly territory. What ever it takes to keep your plane and pilot in tact.
