This was fixed on the FWs a couple patches ago, but we still have a TA with the gunsite just laying there ready to be knocked off with one sneeze.

Just stick it on there with some chewing gum and it will be fine.

One thing you might try is to mark it's center with a small dry-erase marker dot or something. That way if it gets knocked off, you still have some rough referance.

Ive gotten used to where to aim because it happens so much. I'm pretty sure its like the other FWs were before where bullets always hit the gunsight whether they wouldve been stopped by armor or not. Today I got it knocked off on one occasion from dead six, if the gunsight was hit, my pilot would've been dead.

This is perfectly realistic.

A number of FW-190 pilots suffered head injuries while crashlanding, as a result of hitting their head on the gunsight. Leather cushions were unavailable due to the overuse of cows as gunnery targets.

So the sight was fitted with explosive bolts that would blow it off in the event of an impact.

Unfortunately, even the small shock of a bullet hitting the plane would trigger the sight to detach.

In practice, the system caused many more accidents than it prevented, as a result of the gunsight being fired into the pilots face, chest or groin. The war ended before the system could be changed.

After the war, the Ford motor company copied the device to create a rocket launched pillow for automobiles, that would deploy in the event of a crash.

After a number of decapitations, an inflatible bag was substituted to create the air bag we know today.

Fenec - Long time no see.

LoL.

BTW, I recall you had been working on ships for FB and most likely PF. Did you ever recall what happened of Air_hog and his Graf Zeppelin carrier ? Just wandering.....http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks,

Just so this isn't taken as a whine, here is a pic of it happening. Pilot was fine eventhough the bullet magically passed through the armor, his head and the gunsite. I have a track but no way to host it if anyone needs proof I can send it to them. Oh btw what is Olegs bug submitting email? http://lbhskier37.freeservers.com/gunsitecrap.jpg

AFAIK no one is making the graf zeppelin.

It was never finished anyway, so you can imagine how much reference there is for it.

There was many WIP Zeppelin carrier shots on Netwings circa October 2003 as well as Air_hog (the modeller) in November 2003 saying is it was completed and sent to Maddox minus the animated Heavy AA gun turrets.
