Hi
totally new to Il2 and PCs in general, however the game is absolute class- enjoying the steep learning curve and realisim.
Once embarked on a pilot career, does the option eventually present itself to change/upgrade planes? Getting a bit sick of my 109, but want to continue on my present career.

I don't think you ever get the choice, but in some careers you get newer/upgraded planes if you keep with it long enough.

God thats a bit gash

The one thing i dont like is the shoddy presentation, i suppose it is forcing me to learn something about ww2 planes.

Also, you can have multiple campaigns going on with the same pilot at the same time.

Just start a new one and you can go back to the other one where you left off.

yeah i tried that, but its a bit weak, i would have thought as the war progressed you got a better plane.
but then i am from the land of consoles, power-ups and levels

Dude... the presentation was a real turn off to me in the beginning.

Do yourself a favour and get my improved music files:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=23110283&m=291108262

That'll help a bit.

But in time you will come to realise what a masterpiece this game really is. Truely a masterpiece. Hang in there.

Also, I would recommend downloading Extreme_One's RAF campaign from here:
http://www.netwings.org/library/Forgotten_Battles/Missions/index-9.html

You can come back to your other campaign later... but this is the alsation's genitalia.

Enjoy!

Do you mean the dynamic campaign ? Before starting the campaign, you'll be given a choice of what year to begin the campaign and main aircraft you'll use. The aircraft menu has a drop down arrow that will show you different choices of aircraft for the years they were actually in use. You can set the aircraft you use through your campaign in this manner.

You have to select different planes when you start the campaign in the drop down list under each section of the campaign.
If you did not select anything different, you will get the same default (1st on the list) plane throughout the entire campaign. I can imagine after 150 missions, it would get quite old. Also in the read me file, it tells you how to change the number of missions in each campaign (or section thereof)

You could save all the campaign mission files to a separate folder and then tweak the existing ones to what you want using the FMB.

Yes, you can do as Tenneal said to change the planes you fly. But you have to do it before you start the campaign.

I just reread your first post, dazza. First of all are you playing IL-2 Sturmovik or IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles ? If you are playing the former, then I'm afraid you are stuck with the 109 until the end of the fighter campaign because the campaigns are scripted. Campaigns in FB give you more choices on the planes you'll use.

and are you given this option once one campaign finishes and the next one starts?

sorry for being such a spanner, forum help is really cool!

Yes. If there are other a/c available you can change at the beginning of the new campaign.

No, you have to make all choices before you start the campaign. For example, you want to go from 1941 - 1945 and want to start out as Bf-109 in 1941, later switching to FW-190 in 1943, then switching to Me-262 in 1945 -- you'll have to set all this in the beginning. Then when you get to those years, the aircraft switch will just happen. You can't switch in the middle of your career.

When you start a campaign you get to choose which plane you want- I assume the choices are what was available at the start of the particular campaign. I started in an IL-2 field mod some time I think in '42. Thats what you fly for the particular operation you chose. After that's over, you "stay" in your squadron, and sometimes get a new model assigned. This is not alway better unfortunately (wooden winged IL-2's !) and you don't get a choice if you want to continue with that career. Eventually, if your squadron recieved them in RL, you should get G models or better. Expect lots of missions in each operation.

Hope this helps
