lockon video sample (http://media.naturalpoint.com/video/su33supersonicstrike1-3.wmv)

Ok watch the video and look at jerky it feels ..
I have track ir and I'm trying the best i can to make it work as smooth as possible.

I had an ti 4200 i did install track ir 2 with it ... it was ok than i decided to go better, so i went and got myself 9800 256 pro video card, excellent BTW breath taking in all games at max rez.
Than i tried IL2FB and it was great after some drivers Head hakes, OK after i tried track ir 2 with my loved il2fb and.... crap! all my efforts with the 9800 pro ..gone , it's like getting 20 fps...or playing with a flat panel monitor.... jerky!

I'm pissed off..
so my advise for now is do not spend money in a big video card with track ir 2 3.0.3 driver.

when i need to look around fast in a dogfight i think I'm going to vomit..

Any one have the same experience?

Peoples with track ir try with out just with the mouse and tell..

THANK you.

PS: Track ir 2 KIll any Great video card..

My experience with TIR2 has been 180 degrees opposed to yours. I find it smooth as silk. One thing to check for is to make sure you are in Absolute Mode and not mouse emulation mode. Mouse mode is jerkier but absolute mode is smooth as silk for me.

As check that you have v-sync on as having v-sync off can cause tearing which looks bad. I feel TIR2 has been well worth the money and won't fly a sim that doesn't supprt it.

I also have the same video card as you.

GOZR, make sure you are using Open GL and not Direct X. FB is optimized for Open GL. Are you using 3.10 drivers? I have a similar setup and run smoothly 1600x1200 everything on at 70 fps average.

TheGozr

Roadczar, yes i'm using OpenGL with 3.10.

Just comparing with and with out the trackir 2 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
( using Absolute Mode http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )
As you can see in the lockon video we can see the jerkier effect( observe well ) for me it's not good enough it should be like WWSensei said.

I have the same silk effect with the mouse look

Using 4200ti vs 9800 pro same feeling no better. But looking with mouse only it's a different world.

WWSensei
Is there a way to optimized the pixels?

Im a previous owner of trackir1 and sold it, I found mousecursor control much smoother and no annoying wires on your head,

can any people in here provide ingame videos of trackir vs trackir2 i would like to see a difference in panning smoothness

Several things:

First, If you are running WinXP Pro (not sure about Home Edition), make sure TiR is running as administrator.

Second, if you have TiR plugged into a USB hub, take it out and plug it directly into its own USB port.

Third, no amount of video card will solve the problem of not having enough ram, or and over-taxed CPU. I upgraded my video card and got 2fps more because my CPU is my bottleneck.

Lastly, uninstall Tir completely, re-download the latest software, and reinstall. I had to do this one because of chopiness. For some reason, the software was corrupt, but freshly reinstaling it cured the problem.

I'm awaiting my TiR2, but my TiR1 works very well, with the occaisional hiccup. Usually, exiting the application and restarting it solves the problem.

I presume you've given the tracking unit a big fat target to track? Marginal targets or background interference from light sources, etc. will cause jerk-o-vision. Make sure you're using the tracking camera screen on the TrackIR control panel to ensure the device is seeing a big, constantly green, target before trying it in games. If it's smooth there, it should be smooth in-game.

Cheers, SSS

I am using the Trac IR 2 and it is great.. not jerky at all.. I have the 9800 xt 256 ATI card.

But the one thing I have that seems to make a big change is 2 gig of ram.. On my sons computer it only had 512 of ram and his was a little jerky.. when I put another 512 of ram in , it went smooth as silk..

And the ram is what did it. We are both running 3 Ghz chips.

After some help from folks here on the Forum ( after a shakey start- quite literally) I've got to say it( Track IR) is simply great!!! I'm still having some problems lining up targets for Coup d' Grace ...but otherwise it is giving me a real " Emersive feeling"> Thank god my weak stomach doesn't have to foloow my stick movements shakey input tho!

Try more dots. You need a good curved reflective surface.

Also, did they patch lomac yet? Track ir had many issues, recentering being the biggest and the fact that there was no absolute mode worth thinking about.

I don't have TrackIR, so I can't comment on it. I have setup both Cam2Pan and most recently Freelook as a low cost alternative. In FB, I cannot get the tracking to refresh anywhere near as fast as the game screen, even when I'm refreshing at 30 on the tracker. I can clearly see the ground moving below my plane IN BETWEEN the stops of the head tracking. This bothers me, but it's not so bad that I couldn't use it. When using Active Camera in FS2004, which runs at 25 or so FPS anyway, this problem doesn't exist.

What bothers me most is the "frantic" feeling that comes with head tracking. FS2004 is a very serene game, and head tracking just makes things far to active for what I enjoy. In FB, this extra activity isn't a big deal though. I'm still on the fence with it, I often just use the hatswitch, which I'm more used to.

So come on Goz... whats the story? I had TIR and sent it back because at the time I couldnt justify the expense with the fun factor... but I have been considering getting TIR2 in the next few months since I heard it was so much better. This is a track I recorded using Freelook, and a webcam I received as a gift a few years ago. The total cost of this setup is $0.

Some quick info, this was recorded with the cam and Freelook running at 30fps. I am wearing a black ballcap with a white paper marker on the front. It's pretty smooth, all considered. Never during this track did I have to "recenter" my view, as Freelook is pretty dang great at not loosing center. You'll notice my view snaps back to center as I look towards the center, I set a custom deadzone in the .cfg file.

No i fixed the link http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Track ir 2 is very great but just look in the links there are 2 tracks one with the mouse and one with the track ir 2.
I couldn't fly with out it for sure I'm just complaining about the differences of smoothness.
I wish to find the "solution", is it an USB bandwith problem? a tir driver ?or pixel smoothness trouble ?even if I'm at 120 % smooth in setting

I just wish that the tir could be as smooth as my mouse witch is PERFECT smoothness

The 4.1 ati driver made it better .

Sturmtrooper show us a track sample, plz thx

adlabs6 : it is defenitly a great lesson of shooting , an exelent moves i keep it for reference http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .. but you see it was jerky on paning.

Yes, there is always some choppy motions, I can't get rid of them, and I'm not sure it's possible to with the camera updating at only 30fps, while FB updates at over 50 most of the time. I am not sure how many samples per second TIR2 is capable of doing, but it must be at least 30. If it is unable to sample higher, then it too will never update at the same rate as the mouse can. A TIR2 owner would have to tell us about such things.

Did you look at my track GOZR it was made on a AMD 1400 512 pc133 ram geforce 3 64 meg system. Game was smooth and panning smooth aswell. The TIR 2 runs at 100mhz my TIR 1 runs a 60mhz I cna imagine why yours would be jerky. Are you using it in a USB Hub or something? If so get a PCI USB addon card. Either way even if its a USB socket on mobo still try the card thing. I know you got the cash ofr it that Brinks truck is still in your Ditch out front. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If there is a noticeable improvement in TIR#2 then I might upgrade from #1 (when I can find the pennies!)
I use Hunter's TiR settings AND i have the TiR baseball cap. One or both of the above worked wonders, and I wouldn't consider going back.

Well I looked at all of them tracks. If I'd of gotten ahold of the thing adlabs2 demonstrated I'd of went the cheap way out. But too late for that. On this particular rig I can't truly say I see the difference between TIR1,and2 A slight cleaner pan with the mouse but slightly. Now when I get my moboback I'll look again. Because this all has to do with reasources. A track on a big machine may look perfect but on a mid range machine the same trak may not look as good. It needs to be recorded with fraps then put in some sort of divx or something so it will truly show what your seeing.

I ask 'em to check this thread , so i hope that we will have an answer to the sample rate matter and why is a bit choppy with TIR2. in hope to have a fix that everyone could benefit.

I can totally imagine how good it could be for their sales if the TIR2 could work like the mouse sample rate.( yea! read that )
