All I ever saw of that sim was the demo - it made me not want to buy it..
there were lots of red and blue dots around the edges of the screen to track aircraft - like Mig Alley sort of - and the screen was quite dark...difficult to see out of the cockpit
too. I basically hated it and deleted the demo with extreme prejudice.

I have played the udated demo and it's not so great. cfs2 would be better for the price. Or even Il2 the original game would kick rowan's butt. Rowan did make an ok sim called mig alley. It's out dated now but not too bad.

Graphically BoB looks not as beautiful as FB.
It's still very beautiful and there are many graphical enhancements.

But then again it's a couple of years older as well. Nevertheless i find that with the BDG patch applied, in many respects overall it is much better than FB offline. But it has a much more limited planeset.

Then again it's much more scalable, much better view system, basically much better well thought out features. And the AI is better as well.
All imo ofcourse. The planeformations are huge.
And you can play it from the tactical side by directing squadrons towards enemy flights or actually fly the planes or both.

Overall very good sim and much underrated. Especially so now, with the BDG people continually improving on it.

There's a few mods for Roawn's BoB, but unfortunately I upgraded from Win ME to XP and it now no longer works. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
There's a good mod site for it here: http://www.bob-ma.org/

Rowan's BoB is like two games in one: it is a flight simulation (and a good one at that!) and it is also a real time strategy game where you command the RAF or LW.

The dynamic campaign is the heart of BoB. You can plan all missions yourself, or you can leave it to the computer (this part is still a bit buggy). Then you just jump into whatever plane you like (Spit, Hurri, 109, 110, Stuka). Bombers are not flyable, but you can man the gunner positions.

The radio chatter is AWESOME. Straight from the movie and I could swear I heard Michael Caine in there somewhere http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Flight Models are very good IMO. Landing these planes will be an adventure every time you try it. Damage Models are quite poor especially if you compare them to FB. Personally, I find it a good compromise. You lose some detail but in return you get those massive bomber formations (200+ raids are no exception) and huge dogfights over London.

Other features (with the BDG patch) include dynamic weather and Track IR support. A new patch should be coming soon.

The only real problem I see with BoB is that it has no good multiplayer mode.

Don't just stand there, get one up!

It's a classic. And if it's cheap how can you go wrong?
With the additional patch of the BoB designers group it's lovely for offline play.

Graphics cannot match FB however recent changes have done a lot and it has a cloud layer where AI cannot see through !!!

You can also play it as a strategic campaign on both sides.

It's still in third hand development and can only get better.

I love it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I bought the game allmost two years ago, but it was so extremely riddled with bugs that it took all the fun away. BTW there was very little this game could teach FB exept perhaps that you could open the british fighters cockpits in mid-flight http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

You want to check this link out. http://www.bob-ma.org/modules.php?name=Forums

Rowans BoB is being continuously updated by a community group dedicated to improving it. I think it would be well worth purchasing.

This Sim was and still is a very good game....
I feel that it does have one feature (apart from the ability to be the English and German commanders) over IL-2fb, and that is the simultaneous dogfights at several different altitudes all at the same time.....it makes the gameplay very frantic. (I hope that Oleg will incorperate this in the new BoB release for IL-2fb). IL-2fb is not so multi-level unless you create your own complex missions/ campaigns.
The downside was that the multiplay was limited and if 2 people played cooperatively they often could not see the same enemies in the game i.e. your wingman sees you shoot at nothing and get killed by nothing. So it did not work well in this area but the BDG people will solve it one day soon.

regards,

SLP
