I swear my 9700 Pro had about the same performance in DX mode in FB as my shiny new 6800GT, maybe even better.

Blackdeath track running at average 31 fps in DX mode with my new card. Funny thing is it ran in OGL "Perfect" mode on my 9700 in Blackdeath at 27 fps average.

Just flying around my fps are only 5 higher in DX mode then OGL with perfect water and trees.

Are my DX settings in this sim in need of changing or are the DX drivers for my card really that bad in DX (version 61.77)?

I'm beginning to wonder if the 6800GT can run in DX mode well, especially in other games.

Also I haven't noticed any additional smoothness to the Blackdeath track since the upgrade, although I'm sure my system might be partly to blame.

Don't know why you would want to run in DX mode in FB. I haven't heard about any problems with the 6800gt in other DX games, I think in FB DX mode has been kinda ignored since it doesn't let you have to good eye candy. (kudos to Oleg for using Ogl and not stupid MS **** DX)

There are many little issues with DX. . . why not just run the one thats native to the sim and looks a whole better, and on nVidia cards runs really well!

Nvidia cards have always traditionally run Ogl very well, better than ATI cards in many cases.

Are you using DX9.0c?
Also, try the 65.62 beta drivers at www.guru3d.com (http://www.guru3d.com). I found they gave about 3 extr FPS over the 61.77 drivers.

Nvidia = OpenGL
Ati = D3D

Why on earth would you want to run in d3d? You cant even put perfect landscape detail on http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Still, I`m going for the x800xt when I can afford it .. mmmm .. nice card. Not so impressed with the 6800ultra. Fast, yeah, but not as insane as the x800xt .. but thats just me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The D3D is a wrapper and will never perform as well as OGL..

Not to mention the lack of shiny water.

As Alexi alluded to, I'm confident that any performance issues right now are directly associated with the fact that the 6800 series is a brand new architecture and therefore affected by the infancy of fresh drivers. The improved performance factors for this series is not in question...they're very good and I'm sure will improve greatly with more mature drivers.

The ATI offering is very good as well, but still relies on the older architecture of the previous generation. While this may limit the X800's future a bit, they can benefit from the more refined drivers for that technology.

Right now, choose either one and you'll be both happy and impressed with the performance gains (provided your system is fast enough in other areas to capitalize on these speed improvements.)
