Are they Assassin factions, are they "class" symbols, are they skill symbols?

They are official as they are on the Unity hoodies being sold in the UbiWorkshop

Might be skill icons, but I have no idea what they mean.

Might be any. But I think classes.

Left-most: lockpick master
second: tank master
third: stealth master
fourth: dual master

I think they might be skill icons. Far Cry 3 and Watch Dogs had them.

Bottom left - Armour?
2nd from top - Stealth cause of the streaks and stuff.
Top Right - combat?

IDK

Oh the bottom-left does look like a shield. I kept picturing it as an open door. Ah, this is Rorschach test!

2nd bottom maybe parkour? It looks a bit woosh-y.

@Selestina118 Yeah that's what I thought too. But it also looks a bit like a tree trunk. So I was like... er, maybe a tank!? :p

Maybe Skill icons or better said something like the icon for your customized Assassin (e.g. in co-op mode), that shows which 'path' you choose for your Assassin to act like (stealthy, agile, etc.)

My guess is those are skill tree symbols for:

Stealth
Combat
Parkour
Lock picking

Don't which symbols are what though.

So do you think they are skill tree icons? I thought it could be maybe item attributes too. Like boosted stealth, quicker parkour maybe or something.

Could be. Either way I'm positive these are linked to the skill tree in some way.

As either icons to show what we're unlocking or headings for each skill set.

I just dont think lock picking would be a skill tree... or worthy of one.

If not lock-picking then maybe defense? It looks a little like a shield. Although, I think I remember advanced lock-picking being mentioned as one of the skills that could be a character upgrade.

Yea, lockpicking does have skills.

I honestly don't know why.

Unless you're going to have to unlock every single door you go through or something.

I probably wont upgrade it. I like it when locks are hard to open. I feel more accomplished when I open it.

different variations on the "severed" motif, I'd imagine. each symbol has a cut through it, whether vertical or horizontal.

I don't know, I thought Edward's lock-picking technique was much more efficient than Connor's.

I hardly remember lockpicking at all really.

After aiming for 100% so far I've only done it like twice

one in which was the one at the very beginning with Haytham

don't you have to use it for the chests...

Lockpicking has just 3 skills and you can open every lock with every skill (but when you own the last skill the hard locks are easier). I doubt that this will be a separate skill tree, I would guess they include it in the stealth skill tree or something. It sounds just to small for a tree on its own.
We also know that eagle sense has skills (again: only three as far as we know). I don't think that has a separate tree either.

But yes, skill logos sounds very convincing. I thought the second on from below could be a hidden blade (or maybe a sword) but parcour might also fit. I don't think they will separate defensive and offensive combat skills, so I doubt that it's really a sword. I would guess that the one on the lower left is combat as a whole (because of the already mentioned shield).
Combat, parcour and stealth sounds logical as skill trees (and going from the lower one up the first three might even fit). But number four? Maybe it's just something like "assassin skills" and includes the eagle sense and... stuff. Although I guess eagle sense will go in the stealth tree. Hm...
