What would it take for me to get you out of your Full Pain in the a$$ settings, relax, have some fun, and do a close proximity, low level TnB brawl? I mean open pit, externals, icons, the whole schabang! LOL! Come on, pull out the Mustang stuck in your anal cavity, grab a Yak 3, or La-7, or whatever! Lets do it just for a laugh!

What would it take? Probably my desire to do it, Crash..lol..

Seriously, though, I think it's more like your turn to fly me at full real (sorry 'full difficult') settings, like we set out to do when you challenged me the last time.

And we can fly any plane you like. It doesnt matter. I'll fly the Yak, the Ki, the 109, the I-153... how bout that.. I challenge you to a full real with the I-153. There's a TnB aerobatic plane if there ever was one.

The challenge is the I-153 at Full Difficult. I'll even give you some time to practice.. I am grounded from the PC so I cant meet you tonight http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Sorry, my internet connection pooped out on me.

Ok, I'll tell you what. I'll play your Full Pain in my rear settings, but only 1v1. I'll only do it 1v1 because it became deathly apparent to us that our team cooridination without icons is abundently lacking. 80% of our in-flight comms were asking each other where we were, and trying to figure out who was who. Will we work and practice to correct that? Probably not. We prefer not to use Full P.I.M.A. (I'm going to officialy coin the term) settings. But we will fly damn near close.

Anyway, I'm thinking of Mid-war era. I've been having a lot of fun lately with '41-'42 planes. Although the prospect of a I-153 fight sounds very intriguing! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Maybe we should do both! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif WHEEEEE!

Hey, while you are reading, I'm real interested in getting a FPIMA (see? I'm using it! It's our own little jargon now! MUAHAHA) pilot's opinion on custom icons. See my thread here or visit the GD at Ghost Skies.

Here is what I think you should think: Friendly only icons would allow teams with less FPIMA expereince (like mine) to still experience a FPIMA setting, but it would minimize the frustration of constantly losing your team mates! Yes, it's a crutch for weaker pilots. But it has the potential to increase your activity without compromising (too much) the integrity of the limitations.

Whatcha think?

For me (and I'll use a PC term here) "Full Switch" is the only way to go.

But since you asked, I will reply in my typical long-winded, pretentious manner by beginning with a tangent:

[Enter Tangent, Stage Left]

I think it's cool that people just enjoy the game and decide on their own settings to maximize their level of fun. I don't have a problem with others having less switches lit on the settings panel anymore than they should have a problem with me having them all lit. It really doesnt matter nor does it reflect anything about them personally and hardly suggests anything about their potential (albiet untapped) skillset.

Everyone knows where I sit in terms of the realism arguement. I believe, regardless of the excellent defenses made about 'real life' visibility versus 'simulation/in cockpit' visibility, that "Full Real" is "more real". Not because of visibility, but because of other variables which exist or dont exist at the lower levels. We all know what they are. The difficulties that pilots talks about in their writings seem to be better reflected at FR than at P/L, Full Screen/HUD, icons, etc. I dont think anyone would argue that. But that is not the disucssion here. And you are not interested in a MORE REAL game, you are simply interested in competitions and down-n-dirty fun. However, I make the point because that's where you and I diverge. You like the action minus the wait. I like aerial tactics (and the action) as much as I like the strategy. I also like how the style of combat I employ more closely mirrors the image I have in my head when I read biographies and autobiographies of pilots.

And, I genuinely hope that more people will make an effort to fully explore the possibilities of Full Switch settings because it is an entirely different world from padlock, full screen, icons, etc. You can still go back to those settings and enjoy them, whenever you want. But I bet more and more of you would stop in those games less and less after you have been fully exposed to FPIMA as Crash mockingly calls it.

Many others will simply say "yeah, it's cool, but I want instant gratification and I dont have the patience or time for that kind of game." I totally hear ya because there are so many reasons not to fly at full switch. For example, it's frustrating and takes a long time to learn and for most people I think it is simply not worth it. Some people find it boring while others just cant get the hang of it. For people with lower quality monitors, planes can be very hard to spot--heck, even on excellent monitors with powerful video cards, planes are extremely hard to spot. And it's a different kind of action. It's NOT a constant blood-lust environment. You have to think and try to stay co-ordinated as a team and navigate, and guess at the other guy's strategy (one you cant always see). Without padlock you either have to rely on the mouse-trick, TrackIR or your hat to find your enemy.

All that can take away from what you, Crash, are trying to setup in your league--more of a fast-paced-action sport. And that's cool and it will attract a lot of good people. I think that, in itself, is a positive thing. And I applaud you.

In a competition, I gotta say that I do care what the settings are, as I explained in a chat with you before. Because we train at Full Switch, that's the level at which we want to compete. People dont have to compete against us if they dont like those settings. We are a competitive team like any other team. But we play a different game, that's all. And hence we look to find other squads like us.

Your terminology and use of the FPIMA is cute, but also revealing and NOT something that is going to attract the kind of teams I fly with or against, I am pretty sure. I wasn't too interested in the idea to begin with, myself, but I pitched it to ya anyhow, cause I thought we might find a reason to stay in GS. But I pretty much gave up on the idea the last time we chatted.

[Exit Tanget, Stage Right]

So asking me if I think you should make it easier on yourself in your own league is kinda like you asking me what I think you should wear..lol...wear what you want..!, lol..

Seriously, though, (I meant that in jest), you are asking the wrong cat. Put it to a vote over at GS. You have a lot of smart people over there, you included. I am sure you can figure something out. If you really want my oppinion, I think it just depends on how much you want to practice team tactics and opening moves. If you dont and you just want to get right into the ring and spar it out, then you should switch all icons ON and be done with it.. But that's just cause you asked.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

And Crash, the I-153 at full switch (PIMA-mode MUAHAHA) 1v1.. You're on! Just you an me.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Apparently we do. I didn't think it would be THAT hard to do. But we had never really done it before. We started off good. Took off together and stayed in loose triangle formation. The problem came as we were searching the skies. We would lose sight with our wings. Slight turns and adjustments were made, and it compounded on itself. We ended up spending most our time looking for each other.

So does anyone know if the I-153 is slower since the past couple of patches? I havent flown it in months.. I'm probably just used to the P-51, though. Now it'll seem a helluva lot faster, that's fursure...

Nonetheless, for a couple of guys who never fly that plane we didnt do half bad I think...

I fly without icons nearly all the time but, I think everyone else should fly with icons because it's a helluvalot easier.

Plus if you have a bunch of people out their with no icons, flying full real, there will be total chaos. And nobody wants total chaos.. Partial chaos, maybe, but...certainly NOT total.. Or maybe total chaos would be ok, minus catastrophe. No, none of us want catastrophe.

And I propose that's what we're looking at here if many more people a swayed into full switch settings..(*)

And with icons off there'd be a bunch of guys on my team shooting me down all the time going "whoops :S, sorry...." or "wo, was that you?" or "whoops sorry was that you again?" or, or "I thought you were someone else that just looked like you." And that's something I dont think I could tolerate.

I think I can only tolerate, perhaps, one individual in the air bouncing his mates and accidentally blowing them to bits all the time; me.

And dont let me run on tangent here people, try to stay focused on the big picture: Nine out of ten vfp's would be going blind here, instead of 2 out of a 1,000 (me and Recon). And sometimes you just gotta be realistic and step back and think about the reprocussions... it's not like seeing eye-dogs grow on trees you know.

Actually, I think all us are really gonna pay in the future for this addictive-addiction, if I may, that we have become so hooked on. All these gamma, and bravo and delta-sierra rays must be doing tremendous damage to our romantic lives as well.

[And what about]...Our wives and girlfiends and 'perpetual fiances' (for those who proposed without setting a wedding date right around the time when IL2 was released), I mean where are these people?

I'll tell you where they are. They['re] in the living room folding clothes and watching Dr. Phil or HGTV night after night hoping that your promise of "just 5 more minutes, honey" will one day come true.. I mean what kind of life is that? And for all you know she's dialing Dr. Phil right now for his upcoming show that begins with: "Does your loved one spend way too much time on the computer playing video games or talking in forums? If so we want to hear from you." And then the jig is really up my friend.

I guess all I am trying to say comes in the form of the following question, followed by an if,then statement:

When was the last time you had your eyes checked? If you begin to see words getting fFuZzyyaYandKinDDA Runeeing togeTJRe in STrakng waysns the ne iyoud better seek the help of a trained and preferably licensed physician.

And if it's too late at night for an eye exam, then go in there and give your gal a big kiss and tell her that this time you are really only going to be five more minutes...and then come back..And we'll discuss this some more...at length.
