When I'm playing after about 5-10 minutes I get a huge pop-up (www.win-patch (http://www.win-patch)) and have to alt-tab and close before I can see the screen. Help please!

Don't know if this will help, but I use Spybot. It's freeware and seems to be a pretty good program. At least I've never had any trouble with it. Another free one I think is called Ad-aware. I'm sure there are others out there too, you may just have to look around a bit. Hope this helps.

Run spybot to get rid of existing spyware - then install spywareblaster (also free) it has much more comprehensive detection to prevent new infections.

Spybot and Ad-Aware got rid of my pop-ups. No problems since.
Cheers!

I've used and experimented with both ad-aware and spybot. Both work, but spybot never found anything when being run right after I've run ad-aware. On the other hand, ad-aware has always found something when I've run it after spybot. Go with ad-aware.

I found the same thing GTO_68.

Thats why i uninstalled Spybot and kept Ad-aware.

Had both find stuff the other one missed. But usually adaware found more.

I use Ad-aware, Spybot Search & Destroy and SpywareBlaster. You can't go wrong with all 3 of them and definitely run them every week, minimum. And always keep them up to date too.

Me too man. They are the best program for anti-crap ware. You may want to get the google tool bar. It will block all pop ups you get.

Best way to beat popups and spyware sneaking in while browsing ?

www.mozilla.org (http://www.mozilla.org)

I'm using 1.6, Firefox is cool but new and a little too consumer oriented for my tastes. Let me see - no ActiveX toolbars installing themselves, no system vulnerabilities, no popups, blocking images by site to kill the annoying banners (not all, just obnoxious ones), and an email program that's safe to use. There are tons of add-ins and themes too. Anyone who can handle a 12MB download should go grab it right now.

Oh yeah, it's Free too - free as in Libre, not Gratis (which it also is). Fight the power, go Mozilla !

After using Mozilla for over a year, AdAware never catches more than a handful of cookies, usually just one or two and sometimes - even after a month or so - sometimes it finds NOTHING.

It don't get safer than that.

I swear by Spybot Search & Destroy. When someone introduced me to it a month ago, I discovered I had roughly 70 separate spyware programs on my computer. As soon as I cleansed the system of them, system performance skyrocketed.

I use Spybot at least weekly now--especially if I've been surfing the web at all. You'd be amazed how many spyware programs you can pick up in a couple days.
