Imagine giving up IL2 for a while? A game I have been playing almost daily for the last 1 & 1/2 years! It's going to be tough. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

I'm moving to Sydney, Australia on Wednesday morning and I won't be taking my PC and flight sim hardware with me.

I'll be there for at least a year, so at the moment there is no point sending all the stuff down there until I know how long I'm going to be there for, especially as I have a huge monitor, rudder pedals, and a Hotas system. If I know that I'm staying longer then those are the first things I'm shipping http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Looks like I'll be missing out on the PF release too. So I'll get back to doing what I used to do 10 years ago and risk getting drowned in the waves. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Or chased by the sharks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

I hope I can at least get some Internet access so I can browse the forums or I'll have to see a Psychologist for my extreme withdrawal symptoms.

I'm probably going to take my Track-IR and try to take my Joystick just in case I find a rig, oh and of course my FB and AEP Cd's!

Right.... now to get back onto Hyper Lobby as I only have two days left. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You'll find VERY cheap dial up access in Sydney and some quite reasonable ADSL deals as well. You'll also enjoy the surf at Manly Beach. Bondi gets too crowded but isn't too bad in the cooler weather if you have a wetsuit.

For the best surfing you may have to go up or down the coast a bit. There'll be some New South Welshmen on these forums who can no doubt give you better advice about the best spots for surf.

Edit: I should also add that EB, Harvey Norman and others will have PF in stock within 6 weeks of it's US release (maybe quicker) or you can order online from a number of places that are in or will ship to Australia.

Cheers Tully, can I borrow your PC too? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif If I get PF I'll probably only have a crummy laptop to play it on.

I'll be shacking up at my sister's in Dee Why for the moment so Manly/Northern beaches are all within reach.

I have to lose a few more kilos from all the pies and beer that I consumed in bonnie Scotland over the years so I can get back into a wetsuit http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif luckily I've had a little time over the summer and I'm almost back to normal weight again.

Oh and then there is a case that I may have forgotten how to swim during all this time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Depending on your available cash there are places that will rent you a PC (with purchase option at a reduced rate that depends on the rental period prior to purchase). It's not the cheapest way to get a PC long term, but you may want to consider it for the short term.

I'm in Melbourne so lending you my PC would be nearly as problematic as shipping your own http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

You stupid person, do you not realise going outdoors into sunlight is bad for you http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif your trackIR will not work in aus as sticking the reflective dots on all of those dangling corks around your hat will screw the system up..... I hear starch is the thing to use on the string or was it viagra?

As for beer well, they dont give a castlemaine fourX for taste..... and as for the pies hmmmmmm..... yorkie puds......... look at what you will be missing ...... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif

oh and before i forget the first thing they do when you arrive is spray you with insecticide, this from a country we detonated a few nukes on, heck u have more chance of glowing in the dark than spreading an epidemic of hair lice http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

BTW to all you colonists, dont take it seriously i love ya really, its just the lack of real beer that lets you down http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

While I agree with you about fourex (properly written XXXX and aka Castlemaine Bitter), we actually have some pretty decent beers. Try Boag's, Red Back, Cooper's or Cascade for starters.

Surfing Sims could use Perfect Water.

Flight Sims need large clouds--any kind of large clouds Perfect or Less Than Perfect--doesn't matter at this point.

Hey Xnomad if your a sufer check out Curl Curl, Freshwater, Dee Why (particularly Dee Why Point),Cronulla, Avalon, the north Stein (Manly Beach) and the Fairy Bower which is further round Manly Beach and is one of the most beautiful points in Sydney.

Then when you've finished surfing drop in at the Fairy Bower Cafe for the best view, coffee and breakfast in the whole southern hemisphere. The view of bronzed early morning joggers, super fit (literal and figurative) swimmers and surfers combined with the early morning sunshine is almost as much fun as Il-2.

Would of love to of metyou mate as i hail from the north of Sydney but im doing what your about to do. Am living in Japan at the moment (without my gaming rig). Oh well, there are a few fit Scott girls around to keep me distracted...

LOL, I thought you were doing like me. Can't afford anything new because I'm getting much more serious with my surfing (first year in college). Gonna get a new board 6'0" 18.5" 2.25" probably for when I go to Kaua'i in January. Then I also need a new wettie. After that I want another board. This summer probably go to Costa Rica. Also Baja many times over. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

P.S. Go to a beginners break as you get back into the rythem. Don't crowd already packed lineups, don't be a donkey. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Edit: Come over to the surfermag.com BB and lay it down. We have people in Auz. You can learn a lot and have many laughs. My name is Jenks on there, been posting for 5 years (surfing for 5 years also).

I was just watching a show on venomous creatures in austrailia.

Whats up with the snakes there? 160 different species, 130 of those are deadly.

And the spiders! Do you people realize that those red backed nasties love concrete?

Snakes and spiders are ok so long as you dont try and do a Steve Erwin and pick the buggers up.And Red backs also LOVE toilet seats so be sure you lift it before dangling your precious parts near it, chances are you would be hard pressed to find someone willing to suck the poison out LOL

I can see it now Xnomad is running around yelling "I'am bite" "I'am bite" and all his ozi mates just stand around beer in hand shaking thier heads "yup he's a dead'un" LOL

For Surfing Tully is right, get up to the Central Caost\Newcastle or QLD otherwise head South a ways to the Wollongong area. Sydney is pretty crowded for Surfer these days and their are always flags or swimmers in the best areas.
Being on the chilly side atm you may do ok though.
For beginners I recommend Freshwater Beach (Harbord). If you catch Manley Beach after a storm their is some pretty good surf up the nth end.
Mind you I have not surfed for years http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As for a PC their are a couple of internet games cafes around the place, one is at Hornsby but I do not know if they allow you to install your own games.
If you are here for a year I would definently ship your PC here and connect to the internet (its between $30 - $60AU dollars a month for broadband) and you can now get this wireless now (not hotspots) where you connect a wireless broadband modem to your PC. No cables for the rented premises.

Good luck m8. Don't worry about the spiders and snakes. When you ride a Kangaroo you will understand http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
