My vid card is Radeon 9600XT 128Mb. Yesterday I downloaded cat 4.7 to play Doom 3. With previous driver (original driver from the CD) i got only between 11-30 fps averaging between 9-19 at perfect (40+ fps at excellent on average). Not really good right?

After using Cat 4.7 i got an averahe of 30+ fps at perfect!!! with 16 planes in QMB. The fewer the planes...the more fps you can gain of course (40+-60 with only two planes in QMB).

I play Lomac aswell and 30+ at perfect with 16 fighter planes is incredible compared to playing LOMAC. So download it...it works for FB!!

Have fun enjoying FB at perfect!!

Yeah 9600XT is good when you have a tight budget.

Yeah, the 4.9 beta is worth a try. Only slightly better or the same by my tests, but certainly no worse. I'm getting better framerates over water and especially at coasts.

i just ordered the 9600XT 256 card and was wandering which would be the best drivers for this card?

The 4.9 betas gave me a good boost in doom3 , didn't try "perfect" yet , I usually fly "exellent". But i'll try today.

Will "SAPPHIRE RADEON 9800 PRO ULTIMATE 128MB" run it at perfect?

[]_---_[] KITT
08-08-2004, 09:15 AM
I think 9800 pro will not have any problem running FB at perfect just make sure you download Cat 4.7. I'm getting on average 30-40 (up to 60+ sometimes) fps for 16 planes at perfect in QMB and career campaigns with 9600XT 128 with 800 FSB-2.8GHz PIV and 512 DDR. It seems the original driver from the CD is not optimized to render the perfect water. It's just sooo beautiful..... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif.

Does anyone here play FB at perfect with 9600 with cat 4.7 too?

I had a 9600 pro 256 and it couldn't make the cut on perfect. Its a 4 pixel pipeline card, perhaps that's the limiting factor.

I have the 9800 PRO w/256 MB, and I consistently get 45-60 f.p.s. with perfect water enabled.

I've found that performance improves if you install more RAM as well as upgrading the video card. I have 1.5 GB of RAM, and when checking the task manager I show that I sometimes only have around 200-300 MB of free RAM remeining.

Maximize your RAM. Your PC will use it.

I have a 1.8 Ghz computer and 512 mb ram with a recently bought radeon 9600 pro. I play FB in perfect with no trouble at all. Especially offline it is perfectly smooth. Maybe online its a little bit slower.

There ARE some things you have to do to make it run this way though:

-you MUST get either the 4.7 or 4.9 drivers. They are the BEST for FB. You can also do a search for "atiogxx.dll" on these forums (perhaps ORR) to find out how to play with 4.7 or 4.9 Ogl drivers, without having to replace your current drivers.
-you can disable some things like mipmap details etc. to speed things up
- change the config file in your FB dir the following things: forest set to 1 and water set to 1.

I play on perfect all the time, running Omega 4.7's on a P4 3.0E w/1GIG ddr http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

frame average is 30 odd black death and can go as high as 80- 100fps+ in a QMB with 16 planes (and me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

EDIT:- oops forgot to say, am running a 9800 pro 128 MB flashed with a 9800 XT BIOS and clocked to 419/369

sorry for replying so late.
To: FI_Macca44 (See no. 3a and 2b)
My settings for ATI:
1a. 3D set at default level (mid between performance and quality
2a. Resolution 1024X768 at 60Hz refresh rate.
3a. Cat 4.7 Druver and conrol panel.

My settings for FB.
1b. Everything at top (highest quality), landscape at perfect.
2b. Note in IL2/Setup outside the game set your video card option to 9800/9700/9500 (Before doing this i was unable to play at perfect at all due to corrupted graphics, after setting this i got on average 10-19 fps sometimes bogged down to 7).

After downloading Cat 4.7 Voila! i saw a steep increase to fps now between 30+-40+ on average with plenty planes.

I hope you'll be able to run FB at perfect too.
My vid card is Inno3D 9600XT 128Mb. If you succeed in running FB at perfect please let me know alright?

What are some recommendations for the older ATI 9200SE 128mb? I want to squeeze as much as I can out of this right now with the appropriate setup and or drivers. Someone please respond for this older card. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

hi!

I dont know what graphic cards setting you gents are using ?
But i have an ati excalibur 9700/128 mg, and ive been able too fly with perfect since Fb/forgotten battles came out, only in the begining there was graphic anomalys ( sorry if misspelled)and that was fix in catalyst 4,7 and it runs perfect now without odd graphic tiles, ive used perfect many times during time from release of fb untill cat 4,7 and it run smooth on my system, almost no stutter and a fps around 36-52 constant and in citys like berlin and leningrad a fps fom 19-28.I play in 1024*768*32 in opengl, setting on graphic card in windows is set at its almost near highest values.
The graphic system in il2 is also maxed out everything in exellent exept perfect in terrain and full clouds.
My system at the time when fps was checked (that was 2 weeks ago).Win xp proffesional, cpu xp 2500+,768mb ram,ati 9700 excalibur.soundblaster audigy 1,
Ive resently upgraded my cpu too a xp3000+ only had it for a week and havent done a fps check with that yet but it seems too run smother and faster.

The perfect settings are not only graphics-card dependent. I did quite a lot of experimentation before the 4.7 Cats, trying to get my machine to run perfect acceptably. I tried Coastie's settings and several others, at various resolutions. Here are my specs:

Sapphire 9800 Pro, 128MB, 256-bit
2.4GHz CPU
533MHz FSB
1024 MB 333MHz DDR-RAM

I can run on perfect at higher altitudes okay, but any time I get near water, forests or sometimes cities the frame rates drop into the teens or lower. The Pacific map for instance is out of the question. The problem I run into is that the CPU and FSB, and probably the RAM as well, "prevent" the card from being able to its job--they're the bottleneck.

I just say this to point out that the new drivers may resolve some issues that were hampering performance, but even this won't allow an underpowered machine to run perfect all the time. Looking forward to trying out the new drivers though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Cheers,
Mike

thats ddr ram mate, dont see why that should be the bottleneck

i dont get these fps figures... maybe 15 fps is fast enough for me lol i play fb great on perfect, 1024x768, my specs,

P4-1800 (SDR motherboard, exact type forgotten long ago http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )
768mb sdram (133mhz)
ati 9800 pro 128mb ddr
audigy ls

id have to check what my drivers are, prolly cat 4.7 seeing as i only got the card a week or two ago, and just immediately installed the drivers from the ati web site (NEVER install the drivers that come with something, unless its bleeding edge or you just cant find newer drivers)

if theyre not cat 4.7s im looking forward to a performance jump http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've been using the 4.9's with Doom 3 since the weekend with my 9700pro and they work exceptionally well and without any problems. They also work very well with IL2:FB/Aces.

I would have no problem with perfect (performancewise) but I can't see jack against ground. No aircraft no ground targets...
