Dunno , maybe I'm bored or maybe I want something new. I was flying all planes we have now in FB.
Far from being an ace , far. There are plenty of them. I was wondering if there could be any other
challenges in FB except shooting down some plaes or level out some cities.
And an idea came while I was flying the TB , at 1500m. All other fighters were buzzing round me but none fired
at me. They were too busy shoot each other. And then I thought , well , I'm a transport aircraft , or a recon one.
I don't have guns but precious crates or films to deliver.
My question: why don't we have the Dakota , Ju-52 , Me323 or any other plane with a different role than fighter or bomber?
What's wrong with a mission where you supposed to deliver the goods for your surrounded mates? Or to evacuate an area? Or to rescue a bailed out pilot?
Is not like I praise here logistics side of the war , but without this kinda missions no war could be won.
Anyone would like to fly the Skytrain? Or the Ju52 over Crete? I just thought it will make a difference. You will need an escort , that's true but so was in RL.
What do you think?

It would be similar to bombing runs, I'm in! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

good idea - personally i am up for any facet of aviation that was conducted in the war - even the ones most people would consider "boring" - (nightfighting or the stuff you mentioned) - just because there is no "instant gratification" of shooting a dozen enemies down - doesn't mean you can't greatly enjoy the immersion of the situation /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Good idea!

It would complete all the different kind of missions. And you are right when you say, that these missions were very important for planes, strategy and success.
I go one step forward and say: they were the base very often!

Very good idea!

It would give lots of possibilities for COOPs as for the offline play too, especially if we'd get more flyable planes (like PE-2, etc.) suitable for recon and photographing missions (of course they are not mandatory).
I once made a mission for the original IL-2 where the idea was to pick up a crashlanded pilot with IL-2. You had to land in the twilight next to a burning plane wreckage in the middle of a U-shaped forest and between the trees and lake(/river?)shore... Then take off and return to base while enemy fighters jumped you. Fighter cover took mostly care of them, but there was still something for the player too /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif The mission was quite short and simple, but I had lots of fun playing it many times. Player's plane wasn't unarmed and actually on the way back to the base, player could play the rear gunner.

I think , like BlizPig_Zip said in his thread ,
http://forums.ubi.com/messages/message_view-topic.asp?name=us_il2sturmovik_gd&id=zaeer , that we are missing a lot from this sim. Is good , once in a while , to jump in a DF room and have a quick fight. I flew few coops , and I can tell you that there's nothing more rewarding than to hear your leader saying that mission was accomplished , let's go home! Now , few coops , with this kind of action , rescuing , delivering , reckoning and so on will have a better sense of immersivity , if I can call it like that. You fly an unarmed He111 and your pi$$ing your pants when you see bandits coming 6 high and you pray that the fighters will come fast. Also , for escort planes , can you imagine seeing your precious cargo being attacked. My god! That's what I call a drive! I mean , even in DF server , you've been vulched by this guy and all you can think of is to T/O and show him who the master is. But the sky is so crowded and there's a lot of eagles roaring above the airfield waiting for your gear to be up and locked for the attack. I think it will be just the spice we need for this mix.
Now , I'm waiting for my new RAM and the new processor and I will give it a try for a coop mission such way. I don't host because I never did (too lazy) , but I can pass my mission to somebody wilful to host it.
