Il2 is a game, and all patches have the old idea from a WW2 fighter simulator destroyed.
Sorry it is a fake.

Well I guess I can come clear then too. I'm not really a pilot either. In fact my career is a fake, unless you accept my visa from dreamland.

But you know what, its true. The game is a fake, and so are all other games out there. They pretend to have 3d graphics, but there is nothing 3d about it. They don't have true volume, no true form nor shape. Its still flat on my monitor and i cannot move around it. So yes, its fake, but a brilliant one. Its such a good at faking that it makes me believe that I'm actually flying a plane.

Silly huh.

Mainly Java. I think only the graph engine is written in CPP. Rest is Java.Interface,mission builder etc. I also have the feeling that the calculations are done in java since in most areas is faster than CPP (yep,you got this right,math computation is faster in java than in cpp in most cases).Although java can handle 3d,its speed is far from c/cpp. But not for long.Those who don't know,Sun attempted to make a 3D desktop , code name Looking Glass. Recently it was open sourced.I guess they ran outta money http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

In the course I took, we only briefly went through alternative languaes like cobol (and the period jokes), ada and of course fortran (formula transpose). Back then we were told that each language has its own area of expertise (more or less), Cobol for business, ada for data communications applications , and fortran for complex calculations and etc. (of course this is not a definition, but at that time enough to give us a bit of an idea what it was).

I never would have thought of this language as one possibility to create games, or more correct sims. Guess with its background, it would be exceedingly precise but would take huge amount of processing power to pull it off. (unsure, since most of what i know is old info (took the course in '88), and we do have a lot of computing power available, now).

I'm not a programmer tho, just interested in software and how its applied http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The word is 'Lose' not 'Loose'. e.g.
That IL2 is gonna lose the fight against that 109.

Ok, let me begin with a little explenation:
He was born in the east part of germany,and because of thius he only had 2-3 years english at school.. i believe thats the main reason why you cant understand what he wanted to write...

Ok than lets continue..:

@Indianer..
As long as you dont know anything of Johnmcarthur i would suggest you not to judge about his abilitys in IL2. Both of us learned to fight in 2 not unknown german squadrons.. for me i was in the III/jg53 Pikas. And believe me, John would never play Crimson skies... but i believe you know much about that game

BTW:"Wer auf die preussische Fahne schwort, hat nichts mehr, was ihm selber gehort"is a bit wrong... it must be
Wer auf die preussische Fahne schw¶rt, hat nichts mehr, was ihm selber geh¶rt"

@NaNuk
First John is not crazy and noone of usa is a hun.. just take a short look into your history book to look who the huns were.. ;-)

And now to the main part:

For me IL2 was always a normal game. Think about the CEM in game.. that was never implemented correctly. Than all the changes in FM&DM of almost every plane.. and before anyone begins: im not speaking of german plane exclusivly... please explain me the big differences of one patch to another.. Some planes realy have odd behauvior... Think about with what great aoa many aircraft can fly at slow speeds...
Im not thinking that just pressing "i" one time to start the engine is something that i want in a simulation. There should be more needed... I think about b17 II in this way was a good example.

In one thing im not on John side, and he knows that: Im realy fine with the situation like it is now. But i think that many things will change with the next patch.. so lets see if this holds on.

and if you hear something like this from oleg:
Quotation Oleg Maddox: _Users were crying for non-realistic and non-historical and finally they got it...(01.07.04)
i realy think about that IL2 gets away from an simulation to crimson skies with great speed.

cheers...

Well,simulation are thingies machines that military have to train combat pilots,so FB is definitely a game.

A very nice game perhaps,but certainly it wouldn`t last more than 3 months on my HDD if there wasn`t for the ppl.

So he's a troll who speaks poor english. Good to know. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

And whats with these spammers misquoting Oleg? That quote was in reference to v2.02 users, not what we have now, v2.01. Nothing has changed.

One more thing. This is a survey sim, not a study sim. Study sims are like Falcon 4.0, Flanker and others. One, or a few a/c attempted to be modeled in extreme depth. This sim is a survey sim, which means many a/c using similar buttons/effects to achieve a good facsimile of realism. I think its' a good comprimise to be able to fly so many a/c in one game, and fly agianst so many.

Good hunting,

Oh, hey MissKitten. No Fortran is not used for game code, not that I know of, although I am writing a small yet bizzare spacecraft sim with it. Has links to OpenGL too. It should be used though as the modern Fortran language "grammer" is soooo easy to read and type out--very efficient to work with it for very large amounts of code.
